Very Nice, Very Evil!
I hope we can soon put to rest the theory that the team got better by reduction when the Sedins retired.
Motte, and Archibald will be sent down, as you could have predicted before the pre-season even started.
Oh yes, Archibald too is all but certain to be a goner tomorrow despite apparently beating Schaller out for the fourth line lw bang and crash job by a decisive margin.Motte, and Archibald will be sent down, as you could have predicted before the pre-season even started.
If it's possible to make team spirit even worse than it already is breaking your word to the players and playing clear favorites with the last cuts ought to accomplish that easily.I think it must be extremely demotivating to know you never had a chance. For instance, I don't think Gaunce ever had a shot at making this team.
I could understand if we gave some guys with more upside a shot but most of these guys are what they are and not going to get better

Oh we're going to need to be patient alright. And I'm talking in terms of years, not weeks or months. But I'm in for the long haul, I have 48 years of experience with this and I have found following really bad Canuck teams has it's own rewards. Some are putting too much emphasis on the opening night roster.. injuries happen, if Gaunce picks it up he could be back up soon.. so could a lot of guys so as another poster astutely said earlier we need to have some patience.

He had 6p in 5 games on a team that cant scoreGoing to be hard for Elias to win the calder playing on a team that cant score.
I was just about to say.. he's coasting out there. Maybe he wants to play with Jack Hughes?
Performances aside, the thing I am most disappointed in this pre-season is the lack of effort from almost everyone on the team that SHOULD be playing ballz out trying to make the team. Over half the roster should have come into camp with fire in their belly and a chip on their shoulder. This kind of effort will quickly suck the air out of the pro-rebuild crowd that was going to start buying tickets to see "the kids" show some 80's Tanti/Skriko/Williams type jump out on the ice. This market can handle a losing team if it plays with emotion....this team so far? Not so much...
Just remember everyone:
We’re supposed to be competing with the elite by now.
Not by my diagnosis.
I’ve always been consistent with my message.
1) a good rebuild will take 5-7 years.
2) this rebuild started in 2014 when we traded Luongo.
Yes - it’s true that I predicted that we would get between 85-88 points this season (and I’ll liklwy be way off), but I still maintain that the Canucks will be a playoff team in 2020-2021.....with the future looking extremely bright.
Its Bennings diagnosis when he took over the team he is referring to, nor your fantasy diagnosis. Not by my diagnosis.

It is sad that Gaunce was a regular. Schaller showed a lot more than Gaunce last year. Earning a contract while the other will be passed over by every team in Nhl. Hard to know how each player behaves off the ice but the Canucks are looking for role models from their depth players. I understand and can get on board with that idea being flawed. That we should focus on on ice value where you use cheapest guy that can do that job and focus money on more top end assets. In the end Gaunce did not show enough to stay on a bad team. He has chance to refine his game to become more aggressive and a leader. If he does he could be a Schaller and Beagle type player yet for years to come. It's pretty sad that a kid who had been a regular on the team for two years and was out for a long time with a major injury basically gets two pre season games and then that's it. It's not like Schaller showed any more than he did.
Oh well. That's the canucks for you.
