Buffalo is allergic to moves that help them make the playoffs, so that sounds about right.
If it were a straight up talent issue I would take Laine all day but Laine definitely has been told how great he is his whole life and he appears to believe it a little too much.

But people like yourselves are interested in him and talk about him in random forums. Hmm, I wonder why he thinks that?

I feel like this is going to drag on until Dec 1. Both Sakic and Chevy are tough negotiators and Liut wants the most for his clients Seems like it’s a easy deal since there’s cap space and the market price appears set for comparable RFAs
I like to be a fly on the wall to see what the hold up is about

If Buff comes back, this can’t drag too long into the season, otherwise it won’t fit cap wise.

Wonder if the Habs, Sabres, and Jets can work out a 3 way trade? Laine vs Drouin+ vs Ristolainen+

Jets Trade / Acquire:

Laine
For
Ristolainen, Brook, Sabres 2020 1st, Habs 2021 1st

Habs Trade / Acquire:
Drouin, 2021 1st, Brook, Primeau, 2020 2nd
for
Laine

Sabres Trade / Acquire:

Ristolainen, 2020 1st
for
Drouin, Primeau, 2020 2nd

Something tells the majority of comments are going to try to say 1st round and 2nd round picks as well as Brook and Primeau are spare parts.. Anyway, hit me with what you got but I think the value is there for each team +/- and it does address each teams needs. You don't have to like it but it's an idea that can be negotiated and some parts moved here and there.

Absolutely zero chance the Jets or Buffalo consider that. You really need to at least try to make it semi-realistic.

The only team this works for is Montreal.

Very possible but there are a lot of valuable parts each team is giving up here. Zero chance? I disagree but it's pointless for us to talk cause you want to exaggerate.

A better answer from you is, I rather keep Laine and sign him to the contract he wants.

Wahlstrom, 2020 1st and Nick Leddy

Habs can easily match this with Brook, 1st, Petry. And this package helps the Jets on D with two valuable pieces in Petry and Brook.

However, if you add Pulock, 1st, and Wahlstrom, they might bite (Maybe). I do think they are looking for a young D like Pulock but would prefer someone like Rielly, Chabot, or McAvoy. Problem is teams that have these guys on D, prefer to keep them.

I would do that, but that's likely an overpayment compared to other offers they would get. young top 4 D, likely high 1st and a lesser version of Laine who is more well-rounded.

The major questing is how serious they are about moving Laine. Maybe they prefer to keep him and give in on the contract terms before they trade him for a return for mostly futures? It's anybodies guess.

But if you dangle a young proven D like Poluck and add on top, they might like it. Habs are stocked with prospects but in terms of proven pieces ready to step in, all we have is Mete. And we have similar guys who are close to UFA like Leddy/Petry.

You're the one who is completely, utterly, unrealistic. The only teams giving up valuable pieces are Winnipeg and Buffalo. Montreal gives up Drouin and a pile of meh question marks.

The Habs are trying desperately to rid themselves of Drouin and every team knows it. He won't return a premium asset.

Even Montreal fans on your own board make fun of your embarrassing proposals.

Zero chance any team besides Montreal considers your deal.

I would easily offer sheet him at mid-high 7's for a couple of years (or a little more) especially if I'm a contending team with the cap space (Colorado?). Jets probably match anyways but maybe it makes it a little uncomfortable for them (if Buff still plays). I think he is well worth the compensation, even if it is for only 2 years.

It’s all good and yes, we are desperate to try to trade for Laine. It’s obvious but we are trying and offering a lot! It may not work

1st, primeau, Brook is a pile of meh? Do your homework, you’re embarrassing yourself. From your post. I get it, the Laine and jets situation is frustrating you. Wich is understandable considaring they went from contender to pretender in half a second.

Since I saw what you thought on what Trouba would get Winnipeg, I don'T really have any faith in your opinion or judgment. You completely devaluated the Trouba situation and you thought you would get top elite players for him.

your thoughts on player are not worth much, and you think Brook is "pile of s*** " yet you have no knowledge in NHL prospects at all, it's infuriating reading you, no team has good prospects except Winnipeg.

You need to offer quality instead of a bunch of meh. If you want to have a productive discussion, start from a reasonably fair base. Either Kotkaniemi and your first or Domi and your first.

If you don't want to start with reasonable pieces, then you likely won't receive reasonable replies.

Yes, when you are asking for an elite goal scoring 21 year old winger, those spare pieces translate to a bunch of meh.

Educate yourself on Laine and what he had done in his career and your posts won't come across as being totally ignorant in this discussion.

RNH and a young D for Laine? McDavid and Neal have good chemistry this pre season. Laine gives Drai a trigger man to set up on his own like
