I was a big fan of Craig Ludwig, but the name Larry Hillman got my attention.I had his hockey card when I was a kid.He played a rough and tumble style of game.I believe he had a brother Terry?

I recognize 11 names on that list, but can't remember Hillman.

For the same reason that I remember obscure names of my own but that others may not as readily relate to. One of those things that can't be explained.

Mete needs to go down to Laval, he needs another summer of getting bigger/stronger before he can play NHL again. I'm not as down on him as others, but he needs to play #1 D against lesser competition to regain his confidence and mojo. Send him down. Fast.

As of right now he is a #6 D, and we have plenty of those anyway. He doesn't bring anything.

A different version of a no 6 D, nothing to see here...

This.

And I don't get the hate for Benn right now. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a good D, but he's the only one playing like a real #6 right now and doing a reasonably good job at it. Problem is, too much is asked of him. Beside Petry, all the others are playing like #6 (sometimes)-7-8.

Many people are blinded by Reilly's start. For the last 2-3 weeks, he barely touch the puck and plays bad with it. And people are also blinded by Mete's surprising rise from last year. Truth is, he doesn't look at all like an NHLer right now. He's still young and learning, so please send him down to Laval; playing for Bouchard may do wonder for him.

Juulsen was ok before his injury, playing like a #5-6 progressing toward #4.
Shlemko should be a #7
Alzner shouldn't even be in the NHL

So we should stop being so mad at Benn. The guy does his best, playing left and right, and he's not the one putting Habs in trouble (not that much, i should say).

The obvious decision for Bergevin is to isolate Mete to the AHL but I think he becomes Weber’s partner as they seemed to play well together last year.

They do need to get rid of someone soon.

I think the obvious choice is Alzner but I doubt he is handled this way.

One question to ponder- why is Benn immune to the press box?

#17. I feel like anyone who wears 17 or 20 is at best a two year Hab. Those numbers just seem reserved for journeymen nowadays. Although I like Deslauriers so I hope he breaks the trend
So has the #15...but I gotta feeling the latest one to wear it is going to stick for awhile

It's like those guys that wear red shirts in Star Trek -- they don't tend to have a long shelf life.

Coach's discretion -- he's the current Bouillon.

Without selling out our forwards.... what can be done with this D?

Now -- not much. Unless the GM really gets lucky.

You have to deal from a position of strength and the Habs's depth is on the wings for the most part.

A notable asset that could be sacrificed is a Poehling given the emergence of Domi and Kotkaniemi (small sample size caveat) and Suzuki in the pipeline (if he's deemed to be a center option). And perhaps Lindgren could be added, if he has any value, that is.

So an NHL winger, Poehling and Lindgren.

However, I wouldn't do this. Instead, use the same strategy as in this past off season where the GM was able to shore up the center position in one fell swoop. Next off season, make it about targeting Ds and at the draft scoop all the Ds you can get who are BPAs.

If we begin trading Poehlings and even top 6-9 assets, we're going to go back to square one again. We don't have much organizational depth, we can't start thinning it out even more. Best solution is to be patient, wait it out til the off season and realistically assess the team for what it is -- it's in the middle of a transition arc that has not yet completed.

My only problem here, And I agree with you that our best asset atm are Suzuki/poheling, but We need to see them in a NHL system first before we trade them. They both have the upside of a #1c and downside of #3c, so who knows ?
Petry is the guy to move. He's in his prime and playing great and should be able to land us a young top pairing LD.

Weber and Petry do make the D better but for the future he is an asset that should land a decent young player
With Weber given the "C", and Juulsen/Brook/Fleury all in their early 20s, we are set at RD for now and the future.

LD on the other hand is a dumpster fire. Considering that RDs are the more valued asset league wide, we should have no trouble dealing Petry for a top young LD.

I wouldn't do it personally, but I'm just a fan. You have to give to get and I can't see another team coughing up the type of D we need using the likes of Hudon, Benn. I suspect a trading counterpart is going to ask for a Poehling or a Suzuki right now otherwise why would they cough up a top pairing or top 4 LH PMD? Which is why I'd much rather the GM makes his moves in the off season when they can be better and more cheaply managed.

That's an interesting option but wouldn't it signal a tank move? The GM said repeatedly that his goal was to make the playoffs this year.

Unless the return would be a talented top 4 LH PMD or better who could slot into the lineup right away, then it would be balancing out the D pairings as we're evidently weak on the left side.

That's an excellent point.

For once, we'd be shopping for an asset that is in abundance. Maybe Petry alone gets it done.

and that is why I don't think Mb will do anything meaningful yet. He wants to make the playoff so badly with a team that simply can't pass 2 rounds with the current lineup. Honestly I highly doubt he will deal Petry for that reason alone.

if he can deal a top 4 LHD, not too young but not too old ( I would aim between 22-26) without dealing out top 6 and prospects then I will be more than happy.

My top choice:
1. Manson or montour PLEASE I'm high AF on them
2. edmundson
3. Skjei/Maatta

So you're thinking he's going to wait and see if the team falls out of contention and then deal Petry?

I haven't looked into who would be a reasonable target.

Are these personal preferences only or are the teams that own these players, in a position of strength to deal them? Are they all PMDs?
