Same thing can be said about other teams too. There is a reason there really aren't that many claims at the waiver draft prior to the start of the season.
People were saying Cale fleury was gonna get claimed guess what he didn't.
I think the argument was in the Donato thread that if the team carries 14 forwards, they are likely going to lose a defenseman to waivers, and that still stands.
We also assumed the team would play him a lot in preseason to evaluate what they had. He played 15 minutes in the entire preseason with zero PP time.
He's a two-way right shot physical defenseman with half a season of NHL experience. His position and skillset alone make him an intriguing prospect. If the Kraken gave him the minutes they gave his brother or Borgen and he has one good game, there is a strong chance someone takes him off waivers.
I don't think anyone had Carrick ahead of Fleury in the depth chart, yet he got more ice time than Fleury and a lot of PP time.
Fleury has played 22 games in the past 19 months due to covid limiting the league. Add the fact that management held him out of preseason to limit his exposure to other teams scouts - smart move, but a bit brutal for the kid.
