Trocheck is really the only player we have that forces the defenders back. Most shovel the puck down deep and try and go wide. Trocheck isn't afraid to challenge the defenders. If he just had that next tier level, he'd be an outstanding player.
This! I never mind him losing the puck to a defenseman if he’s forcing the defenseman to make a good play. That happens. Make them work. Same with flooding the net front. Even if it doesn’t work it softens up the opponent and the added dimension makes the offense doubly potent.

That 2nd goal allowed.... why is Trouba getting aggressive up 3-1 and shorthanded?

and it was another soft goal. Last year Igor gobbles that up. Vally talked about it in the pre-game. He's getting way too wide.. dropping way too fast or getting a terrible read on the puck... The upper part of the net is wide open

that puck should be stopped
That goal is on bread.he saw Trouba join the rush at even strength and pinched at the wall and got caught-which led to the 2 on 1

A Crapitals fan is whining on the Kings board that MIka 'faked' being injured during the 5 minute Kings pp. To what end? Is the NHL going to penalize Doughty for shooting the puck? Are they going to suddenly choose to stop play during an injury before the team with the injured player gains possession? What a ****ing moron.
They didn't even blow the whistle until we had possession and cleared the zone, so why does it even matter?

All around it was a horrible sequence.

The puck should have never went into the net though. Shesterkin covers a lot of faults when he's on. He was better today but that puck doesn't go in last season.

I don't disagree..its a goal Igor has to have.the entire sequence shouldn't have even happened.

If the goal is to put together the best playoff roster, they should’ve been looking to accrue cap space all year anyway - Kane or no Kane. Accruing cap space should’ve been a given and something people have complained about all year.

Drury is certainly a wizard on the trade side. But he does some head scratching asset management otherwise. Small stuff, sure. But it’s also mind numbing at times.
Not gonna sweat it too much but surely they could have made some moves during a homestand here and there with Hartford nearby.

It would be interesting to have the cap go away for 2 weeks before the deadline. And just have it reinstated the day after the deadline.

Open up some room for trades.
Or allow a number of minimum salary guys to play off the cap. I actually think there’s something they could do with allowing minimum salary players to fill holes when teams are facing a short lineup.

Most importantly, Igor looked more like himself tonight than he has in a long time. His first period was big. He made some key saves early, a big save right after we scored our first goal and some big ones late in the first in the PK.

For real.

Hunt as a stage 5 clinger for the first few weeks of the season. Reaves in limbo till the trade. Jake Leschyshyn's entire NY Rangers existence. Plenty of other opportunities to have made moves earlier so this would not be the cliffhanging dumpster fire it was today. Imagine having the fate of your entire season resting on whether somebody on the bench catches an inadvertent high stick or errant puck, or whether Ryan Carpenter is able to safely cross the Red Sea ice surface from the penalty box to the bench in the 2nd period. Don't forget not letting Igor drive them around on off days.

Also begs the question, can't these guys just play dumb and go down the tunnel like they have an equipment problem? Probably safer down there...

One off topic thing I like about Gallant is that he always wears that Rangers pin on his lapel every game.

I just think back to AV, he would've worn a pin with his own face on it instead.
