STL was more physical. They played Physical. Binnington played good . That game 7 he made some good saves after the first period of that game I watched three times he didn’t get tested. One shot cleared . One shot. Cleared. That was the STL game plan they let you control possession as long as your not scoring so they can pound your forwards. I keep hearing Miller is a physical defence man

Not responsive in any way to my post, but congrats?

The question might be, IF Miller is healthy to begin the season, which D-man does he push out where it is clear he makes the B`s better on the back end?

No one. Bring on Cliffy hockey.

I was worried about Clifton prior to him getting the call in the playoffs. I was concerned that we would see him misidentify situations where he could jump into the play and it would cost the B`s. Just didn`t happen and the kid played terrific.

I like Miller, really appreciate what he brings when healthy but IMO, the Blues didn`t beat the B`s because of their physicality. I didn`t really see any indications that the B`s game plan was remotely affected by physical play to the point that they were coughing up pucks consistently out of fear of getting hit, if anything, where the Blues size seemed to handcuff the B`s was in their own end, they have those huge D-men back there and our boys A) didn`t work hard enough to try and establish net front presence or B) they couldn`t making life pretty easy for Binnington

Clifton checks all the boxes of a modern defenseman: throws big hits, plays with speed and intensity which makes him a great puck mover, isn't intimidated by playing on a big stage like the finals. Best of all is he doesn't handle the puck like a hand grenade. He had more hits per game last season than Miller and even had a fight. Two more fights and he ties Millers yearly average. All this and he's much cheaper.

as disappointed as I was (and everyone here) the experience gained by all of the young players this past playoff run will, IMO, be so valuable moving forward. Clifton left me beyond impressed

they are paying 8 defense men at or over 1 million dollars

Chara
Krug
Miller
Moore
Grezlyck
Clifton
McAvoy (soon to be)
Carlo (soon to be)

Either Millers on his way our or Moore is, signing both Clifton and Kampfer gives me the bet its Miller on the outside looking in. Moore's got a decent hit for a few "Moore" years, I see him as Expansion draft bait.
Clifton only makes 800K this year. His new contract doesn't start till the following season.

Well...not to me.

IMO what the B's were lacking in the playoffs is someone who can hit. The B's need more than one player who can play and hit.

I hope Kevan is well and here to start the next season.

I know he missed lots of the last season but hope he is all set now.

B's cannot go into next season with no players that can answer the hard hitting teams.
I like Miller as much as you do. He's one of my favourite current Bruins. But here is the issue: 41 games, 71 games, 58 games, 68 games, 39 games. His games played the past 5 seasons.

What is the point in having a physical player who is built for the playoffs if he is going to be broken down by the time the playoffs come? I am also very worried about him next year, specifically his speed since I assume breaking the same knee cap twice is tough to come back from. Maybe managing his playing time is the way to go if they keep him, because if he's hurt again come playoff time then that 2.5 mil is a huge waste of cap space.

A lot of the injuries this yr were fluke . Seventy some or sixty some games is good enough to me .

As far as bruins go he can battle with gryz and Clifton and any up-comers for playing time . I would say if he isnt traded he will play far more than being scratched even if no injuries . The chances all top seven are healthy most the time isnt great . I am fine if they trade him and get something useful but I wouldnt be giving him away for say a 3rd or 4th .

I will admit I am a bit worried about his comeback but if it is possible he will get back to 100 percent because he is such a work out specimen.

do you have a link where DS stated that the absence of Miller was why the B`s didn`t beat the Blues please, not challenging you, just didn`t read it/see it anywhere

Having Miller would have been ok but in all honesty, I didn`t really see or feel that the size/physicality of the Blues was the reason for the loss, thought the B`s drove most of the possession stats, had their chances, didn`t bury chances when they were there

my bad - that was inferred by me when hearing his statements. his official line was "obviously we missed kevan miller".

Well I feel a big reason the B's lost was the other team hit our players so hard and often they played injured. he B's had no answer for it.

I hope Kevan is healthy and back for the next season. I like his effort and leadership.

If he is there at the start of the season I will be happy to see him.

The B's need to get a couple of players who can play against the hard hitting teams.

It made me sick to see Maroon skate around in the pre game skate threatening players like Krug and Pasta.. I don't believe he would have done that if Quaider was there.

The team definitely needs a few more physical players, which was sort of addressed with Ritchie. Although, I don’t think the answer to the problem is Kevan Miller. Sure he’s physical when he’s on the ice but if he can’t stay on the ice what’s the point.

I almost hope if he does start the season with us that he can play more of a puck-first game so he can stay healthy for enough games to build some value for a deadline trade.

Regardless, Kevan Miller needs to be moved.

If the bruins were playing McQuaid Regular minutes in the playoffs they wouldn't have made it to the cup finals period :dunno:

really the only thing I don`t like about Miller is his inability to stay healthy which all but renders him dead $$ towards the cap. Love the way he plays, rarely do I have any issues with his play in the D zone. Not a guy who`ll produce much offense but that`s not an issue for me. Too bad really that he can`t stay healthy

The Bruins missed injured defenseman Kevan Miller in the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs, especially when the eventual Cup champion St. Louis Blues raised the physicality level of the series.

Now it looks like the Bruins will be continuing to miss Miller into training camp and possibly the start of the 2019-20 regular season.

While attempting in May to return from surgery to repair a fracture that he suffered in his knee April 4, Miller re-fractured the knee and required another surgery while the Bruins were taking on the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference final.

Miller recently told Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe that he’s been progressing well this offseason but has yet to resume skating.

“We are three months, one day . . . and four hours from surgery,” Miller told Dupont. “It was a big date circled on the calendar … now I can start really progressing. The bone at three months is pretty healed. Obviously, I still have to be careful about what I do, but I can start to ramp things up and hopefully get on the ice here soon with the intention of getting back as soon as I can.”

I think the signings of Kampfer and Petrovic mean the end for him when he's healthy. I expect they already have a trade lined up or will give him a very short showcase before moving him. Or simply waive him (I think he would get picked up).

The advantage of a guy like Petrovic is that he's cheaper and can play in the minors, then come up if you need him.

Miller is also better than both of those guys.

Health may be the reason they are under contract. Maybe there is some serious concern whether Kevan can even make it back.
