You seriously believe that EK wouldn't get more than 80 million if/when he hits open market?

You're talking about the most offensively gifted defenseman in the nhl right now. He'll get more.

80.000 over 7yrs is 11.400 per season.
I said he is unlikely to get much more than that. I'd consider 7.500 to be "not that much more", which would make his cap hit the highest in the NHL (tied with McDavid). Do you think he would get even more than that?

He would prob get 14 per season on the market, or 9.5 in Tampa lol

Kidding aside, he would easily get the 12-14 per season, but I don't believe anybody is worth that.

If you guys want a re-signed EK, one or more of Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman, McDonagh, Point, Sergachev are out the door. Ek is getting 8X11 for sure.
For EK to match doughty in after tax pay, he would only need to sign for $8.5 million per year.

After tax money is like 49% for LA and 63% in TB.

Doughty is only getting $400k more in after tax money than Hedman who has a salary of $3.1 million less.

How do TBL fans view Sergachev? I think if I was a Bolts fan who sees him as a top-4 with top-pairing upside, I don't think I make this deal. I'd rather let him continue to develop and keep that cap-space aside for Kucherov, Point, and re-upping Stralman next year.

I think 11 million became a bit symbolic when both Tavares and Doughty signed for it. There is no way he would take anything below that without significant benefits in other ways (perhaps tax discount in Tampa?). But regardless if it is Tampa or not, everything he has said the last year or two about the contract just makes me feel like he want to and will be the highest paid defender (or tied if 11M).

Offer him 8 x $15 million, he won't take it. He doesn't want to be there anymore. Trade him for Trouba and take your losses like a man.

Ottawa owes him the world.
They owe him nothing. They should trade him for a 5th and a box of pucks to whichever is the worst team on his trade list. Worse includes bas weather and nothing to spend your money on. Just to get rid of this problem. They are getting nothing of lasting value anyways.

Would other players want to play with Hoffman if they believed his wife was involved in all those things? NHL GMs invest a lot of effort into maintaining character in their locker room.
Well, Florida took him. Plus, nothing has been proven about anything at this point.

Maybe the 10 was offered because if signed it makes it easier to do the trade. It's a way of testing how badly Karlsson wants out. It wasn't 5 million so it's nothing to cry about. Ottawa can always just keep him. I wonder what that would be like.

So he sees Doughty sign for 8x11 on a team that is loading up for a deep run with FAs like Kovalchuck and then he is offered a lesser contract on a team that is a dumpsterfire... is it any wonder he didn’t sign?

They clearly had no intention of keeping him if this was their offer. They just saw Doughty get 11 x 8.

He may be better def

Doughty is not better than Karlsson. He may be slightly more defensively better but Karlsson is arguably one of the top 3 players in the nhl.
And that’s your opinion. No question his offense is unreal but I think doughty has a better all around game.

I thin it's more complicated. Players are taxed where they play the games so only 41 games are taxed in LA at Ca rates. So he pays a Manitoba tax rate for the one game played in Winnipeg. and so on. I think so.

No matter what Ottawa offers, he will turn down. Karlsson is done with the Sens. He has mailed it in.

It's tough to sound sincere since I hope we get them, but damn, at the same time I feel so f***ing bad for Sens fans right now.
