Victim of low S% on ice then was stuck with AHL quality guys cuylle and Bonino
Cuylle has been a quality third liner by every metric, whereas Bonino is legitimately awful. Cuylle’s numbers away from Bonino are night and day.

That's because the Panarin you see now is not Panarin you get in the playoffs.

A little bit of context goes a long way.

No Ranger fans are pissed about his ability to stack powerplay points against Ottawa, Columbus and Detroit in November and December.

They're pissed because he's been bad in the playoffs when the games mean something
Prior to last season (1 playoff series) he was almost a PPG player in the playoffs for his career. This is just wrong

I can't see KK offers entertained until this summer. Drury is gonna want to give the kid another go in the playoffs. The kid has had a lot of bad luck with injuries. They seem to show up every time he starts to get going again. He's one of those players that will breakout at 25 so we have a chance to get him on a good long term contract. his 40 points last year were pretty good. Improved defensive game this season. He just needs to learn to mesh them all together.

The problem wasn't just Panarin. It was the entire team. Nobody was finding space. Nobody was helping Panarin gain space. They did absolutely nothing. Got burned by speed. Stop playing tight. Had no forecheck. It was a mess that got exposed after the powerplay dried up. While Panarin made some terrible passes in that series, he at least tried to make plays unlike the rest of the team. It was all around bad. Panarin being the star took the brunt of it.

Back on topic, Kakko hasn't played since late Nov. This can probably be shut down until he's back for at least a month.

Probably worth more to the Rangers right now than to another team, unless both sides want a fresh start. He had a good season last year, but the slow start and the injury didn’t help.

He and Chytil are real “What Ifs?” For the team, even with their success thus far into the season. They’re essentially rolling 2 fourth lines.

Kakko be good third liner for Montreal. He doesn't have the hands to play in top 6. On good team that is. But he has the speed and size be good on forecheck and puck retrieval. Handles the puck well. Should chip in 40 points or so. We just have to wait for price to come down.

He absolutely does have the hands. His drawbacks are mental.

Kakko isn't worth the paper his contract is printed on. He's never once showed any life. A lot of this is on the development staff of the Rangers. They've been pretty much inept outside of Miller at developing their higher end draft picks in the last several years. A conditional 4th that turns into a 3rd. Is probably your best target area.

He'll be fine offensively once they figure out best fit for hi + linemates to have best chemistry
he has sufficient tools
should do kid line again for now
other roster moves
then things settle...

bern seal of approval
he's a keeper
Can you estimate what decade will be his coming out party?
