So, basically a 2 year 13M contract over the 2 seasons or $6.5M...May-be $500K-$1M more than needed, but it's for Joe so I'm cool with it.

That news re Tavares actually disappoints me because it tells me we’re not going to be making a move that brings us close to the cap. :(

Essentially signed a 2 year deal for 6.5m a year but did so as 2, 1 year deals in order to have flexibility to land a big fish this season. I can't say I hate it because someone else would have likely paid more on the open market.

I love Joe. I liked Marleau a lot, but Joe really bleeds Teal. I really hope we can win him a cup somehow... also unless his knees get worse, I think he's going to be playing for 2-3 more years at least. And at a fairly high level.

Figured it would be 4M but 5M is good. Chance is that whoever we acquire will be via trade and will not impact the cap as much at the Tavares signing would have. Also, Jumbo is most likely gone after this year anyway. Hoping DW works some magic and gives Jumbo all he can for a final cup run.

I don’t see it that way. I think Doug knows that adding to the team now is going to require trading roster players, so joe doesn’t have to take less money since money will be moved out.
