Poll was done when vancouver was in the playoffs and toronto lost to columbus for the play ins...

Man hfboard is so anti leafs, its the only reason they have not won anything since forever...

Damn you hfboards
It's actually a prime example of the ridiculous anti Leaf bias on HF.

One GM cares about the team and it's success.

One GM only cares about saving his own job.

Benning has only had seven years as GM, he needs more time to be properly judged

Leafs 36 points, 6 points clear of the 2nd place Panthers, highest scoring team in the North, #2 overall, best defensive team in the North #4 overall.

Vancouver 20 points barely ahead of Ottawa.

BEHOLD THE GLORY OF JIM BENNING

This just shows people really don't understand how to judge GMs on managing the cap. People looked at a Beagle and thought "Eh, 3 milion isn't that much", yet when Marner is argued 1-2 milion overpaid it's the end of the world.
Also, all those players who signed "better deals" like Boeser, need a new contract soon and will want a big raise. That's why term, while now ignored is very important.

The poll is finally starting to right itself. Anyone picking Jim Benning in this is either letting their leaf hate cloud their judgement or they're completely out to lunch.

Meh. Recency bias is a thing, but the narrative around both Benning and Dubas was plain dumb in 2020 too.

It was entirely predictable that signing virtually your entire bottom six to inflated contracts would backfire.

It was likewise entirely predictable that overpaying your stars was not an egregious mistake that could be overcome with some decent GM'ing.

People just let their Leaf hate cloud their judgment, as per usual on HF. Ho-hum.

So you mean that because Vancouver with lesser players made it farther in the playoffs, cant be the reason people voted for Benning, its only people hating leafs ?

This is the most athletic General Manager I have ever seen. He's just dripping with eliteness.

Dim Jim was actually once under a blue moon considered a hot shit NHL prospect, only ranked behind Dale Hawerchuk among North American draft eligible pucksters, after a season with 139 points in the WHL. He also played 600+ games in the NHL, most of them for your favorite hockey club the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Dubas has put together a very good regular season team, but come playoff time they won't be able to compete with the league heavyweights. They have a lot of players who are proven passengers come playoff time.

I'm floored by the results.

I would bet that 90% of the people who voted for Jim are not regular or even casual posters in the Canucks subforum.

It doesn't even really matter how good Dubas is, people are arguing about whether or not he has what it takes to get his team to win in the playoffs, at least he's there every year and understands what a salary cap is. Jim is a bottom 5, maybe bottom 3 GM in the league.

They were literally the only team aside from St.Louis to take Boston to 7 games in 2019... and that was with a worse defensive core, without Kadri (again) and with Babcock getting terribly outcoached by Cassidy.

But sure lol.
