. He gets shifts on the second line every game too.

Ooooh. That's very different.

Since you may not read a lot of the threads, my mini-rant was a playful hommage to comments that Maurice is ruining Laine's career. :DD

And thanks for the reports, of course.

Ha I initially couldn’t tell and was going to say something else but my sarcasm radar beeped at me.

... and you’re welcome!

What is Chisholm defensive game like?
I've mostly watched him at the Subway Series and rookie tournament and have limited viewings of the Petes, but in his zone I've definitely noticed him make the right simple play a lot and doesn't seem to be affected much by pressure at this level. That's to say when he has someone bearing down on him he doesn't get rid of it for the sake of getting rid of it, he usually seems to have an escape plan that he can use even if it isn't his first choice. I haven't seen enough of him to say much about his positioning away from the puck.

Just looking at Chisholm compared to other OHL defensemen. I recall Whileee a couple of years ago talking about junior defensemen even-strength scoring being better correlated to future success (or something like that...? Correlated to something good, anyway). So I took a look at the OHL D in the Top 100 scoring...it's basically D with over 30 points. There are 14 such defensemen. Chisholm ranks 3rd in total points/game, and 4th in even-strength points per game.

I added their current ages in, but I believe the stats folks over at Canucks Army determined the age adjustment for defensemen isn't as large as it is for forwards...but we should still note that Chisholm is the 3rd oldest on this list.

Merkley does a lot of his work on the PP it seems, scoring over 60% of his points there. Hoefenmayer is about a year older than just about everyone on the list...still a decent late-round selection by the Yotes. And that Drysdale kid looks alright...

Undrafted: Riley McCourt, Brady Lyle, Billy Constantinou, Ilya Solovyov, and Robert Calisti. Drysdale is eligible at this June's draft.

Hoefenmayer is playing an overage year. Outstanding play is expected under that circumstance. He was my choice for the 4th rd that year over Virtanen.

IIRC the even strength scoring stuff was largely discussed to boost Logan Stanley.

Scott Wheeler in the Athletic is doing his prospect pool rankings. He's got the Jets at 23. Says some players have been nice surprises (Harkins, Chisholm), some are stalling out (Heinola, still has him as an NHL lock though), and some are fading fast (Stanley).

His list of players that have a good shot to play regularly in the NHL is Heinola, Samberg, Berdin, Vesalainen, Chisholm, and Harkins.

I think I would add Kovacevic to that list.

And maybe, tho0ugh he's still got a way to go, Smith.

And Gawanke.

To clarify, that list I gave of Wheeler's is players that he calls at least "medium-impact", as in roster players and not guys who might get call ups here and there. The odds of them making it are good, according to him.

It's not players who are doing ok and might get a few call ups throughout their career. Smith and Gawanke might be coming along nicely but he still feels as though their chances of being meaningful NHL players are low. That's not to say they'll never play NHL games.

I didn't take it that way. I see Gawanke on another level than Smith. He is outproducing Kovacevic by a pretty fair margin and is 2 years younger. Kovacevic might be a little more nearly NHL ready but I like Gawanke's performance. I have pretty high hopes for him. That age difference is still quite significant at their stage of development.

Gawanke's doing this year what I had hoped / thought Green would do a couple years ago.

Defensive depth is definitely a strength of the prospect pool but it's too bad none of the higher end guys are right shots.

given your Avi is it safe to assume you have watched some moose games this season?
I have, but only a couple. Each game I've seen, I've been impressed with him, as well as Gawanke. Small sample size for me, though, unfortunately.
