The more I think about it, the more Buff +9 makes sense to Florida, but may not for the Jets.

They would have him for 2 more years, on the back end. If they don't re-sign him, he becomes a rental where he might fetch a player, prospect and pick. That's good return for Florida to move from #1 to #9, especially if they still get a guy they like at #9 in Ehlers or Nylander. Buff would immediately improve their team next year. That may be appealing.

For Jets, they would have to really like a guy at #1, and feel Buff would either walk after 2 yrs or doesn't fit their organization moving forward. Neither seems to be apparent at the moment. If they feel the guy at #1 can be a quality player for next decade for them, much more so than whomever they would take at 9, then it may make sense to them too. Just don't know if the guy at #1 will be that franchise changing guy.

Sounds like it's happening... maybe.

I am told several teams are taking to @NHLJets about acquiring the rights to Alexander Burmistrov. Good chance he gets moved prior to July 1

Unless the Jets are getting something worthwhile, still don't see why they would move him now.

Sure, someone can reply saying that anything is better than nothing. But in reality, mid round picks and up and extremely unlikely to amount to anything. The Jets can let Burmi play this next year in the KHL, and if he wants to come to the NHL at that point, deal him then. I would guess that Burmi's value next year when he can come over and play, would be worth more than now.

It's getting louder

Not saying it's not going to happen, just that it seems curious. If we get something back that's good I'll be happy. If we get a mid round pick or something, I'm probably just going to wonder why we didn't just roll the dice and see what happens next season.

My thoughts re; this from last night..

I don't know, I think you get a Duchene type talent with Bennett and I'd be willing to pay that price for one. Although I'd like to get a depth piece thrown in.

Bingo. Reinhart or Bennett in my opinion will be one of those guys, and from a very key position - centre. Truth be told, I think the "not as good as years prior" has really become the popular theme here with these guys, it's gotten just a bit out of hand in my opinion. Time will tell the tale here, it always does, but again, I am a firm believer in Reinhart/Bennett becoming very good NHL'e'rs at the centre position, and it's such a critical position for winning organizations.

I take the deal and don't think twice.

I look at the averages here over the last decade and beyond, say 10-15 years, if you will. I ask myself, would I trade Byfuglien + the average type of player with the 9th pick for a top 2 centre, as I firmly believe Bennett or Reinhart will be, and that is a big yes for me. I understand why some think it's too much, but it's a deal I would do at one of the games most key, important roles and positions. You don't need a legit superstar, ask Boston (Krejci / Bergeron). Legit centres are hard to find and acquire when you are looking for them. I would personally be very comfortable with Scheifele and Reinhart. But, that's just me.

Couldn't agree more with you. And I, like you, believe Bennett and Reinhart can and will be a legitimate player in the mentioned molds you presented. When you can get that, you have to pay a price for it, but you do it, in my opinion. Top centreman come at a premium whether you trade for them or sign them as UFA's. Paying the price via trade (Byfuglien + 9th overall) in order to draft one is costly, sure, but it's a price you pay, in my opinion.

I guess I look at it like this. We aren't using Buff in his optimum position due to good young RHD on the team so we are essentially paying him big money to be a solid third line winger and pp specialist.

I feel we can easily replace the 5 on 5 portion by bringing in a FA this summer. We also have some talented RHD that can hopefully grow into his pp role.

I also feel that you build from the back end out and down the middle, if you can add a potential grade A number 1 centre for an expendable asset you do it.

Billy Jaffe: Told the price for Ryan Kesler is too much right now. Canucks asking for the moon and stars.

Hope Smoke: John Shannon said on the Fan 590 that the Ducks and Canucks had agreed to a trade at the deadline for Kesler, but Kesler’s family nixed it.

Apparently Garrison is available from Vancouver.

Kane for Garrison, Jenson and the 6th pick?

Could be a flurry of moves this afternoon. Or this weekend.

Good thing I took the day off. I would not be very productive at work today, checking twitter, hfboards or TSN.ca regularly. Today and trade deadline day, must holidays.

I'd be fine trading Buff for the 1st overall to get Bennett/Reinhart.

I am not familiar at all with these prospects, but if they are really destined to be talented #1-1a centers, then that is what we need.

Buff has fitness issues, clearly prefers defence over playing forward, yet has too many lapses for management to fully trust him back there. He is too expensive for a third line winger, unless he bumps Frolik down to 3rd.

As I see it, a Top 2 of Scheifele and "1OA Center" would be great, and allow Little to potentially move back to RW, where he previously scored 30 goals.

There's a rumour that the NHL is holding off on announcing trades that have been made until the draft. Not sure if I believe it or not. Wouldn't the insiders leak the details?

I heard that too. I think more would be leaked, too.

Chevy does seem to be rumoured as involved in a few things- possibly trading up in draft, speaking to Stastny's camp, maybe moving Burmi's rights, taking calls on roster players (primarily Kane, I'm thinking). Lots on the go. You would think something would happen, with all that 'smoke' but never know.

The more I think about it, the more I'm concerned. Burmi being out there for trade might mean all of the other avenues he is exploring aren't looking good. I think Chevy is trying but I think we are going to get into something very bad, like a long term expensive contract for a mediocre center.

Kesler for Bonino, Sbisa and 24th overall.

Don't think we'll be getting a windfall for Byfuglien if that is any indication of the market.
