I doubt it as they’re playing regularly in Bridgeport.
I could be wrong, but it would surprise me that it changes much that they play on a regular basis. Last year, Zadina played on a regular basis in the AHL (Grand Rapids) but the Wings still sent him to his national team (Czech Republic). I'm sure I could find other examples.

I think it's going to depend on the value that the Islanders' management (especially Lamoriello obviously!) put on this tournament for the development of the players and the experience they can get.

Playing in the AHL has nothing to do with some of our prospects being sent to WJC's. I'd say Dobson and Wahlstrom are locks. Krygier Pivonka and Wilde on the bubble for USA. Don't know enough about Holmstrom's situation for Sweden but would love for him to go

Dobson and Wahlstrom are both in line to wear letters for Canada and USA. Both could be wearing the C for their respective teams as well.

I think the WJC would a good experience for any of the teenagers we have in the system. Dobson would be the #1D, a role that most of us envision him filling here on the Isles in the future. Not sure of Wahlstrom's exact role for USA, but it would be a prominent one.

It's got to do with whether or not the Islanders are willing to release them to play in the tournament. In previous years, they have not released any player getting games in a professional league.

Beauvillier is the only one in recent memory that wasn't released and kept in the NHL. Not sure how it will be under Lou, but the Isles have had a strong WJC presence for a while now.

This practice extends back to Bailey. Granted that was a lifetime ago, but there is precedence.

Besides, who other than Beau in recent years had been at the pro level in the Isles organization and was considered a candidate for the WJC? I can't think of anyone else.

I just have a feeling that any pro player will be staying with their respective team through the tourney. The Isles seem to value pro experience way more than Jr. level experience for their players they feel can compete at the pro level. Otherwise, Dobson wouldn't be in the press box night after night after night.

I think the Wings will lend Veleno for the tournament. They did it last year with Zadina, I don't see why they wouldn't do it with Veleno.

As for the Islanders, I have absolutely no idea what Lamoriello's intentions are. What has been done in the past, was done under the direction of Snow. We'll see with Lamoriello.

In their history, if I'm not mistaken, the Islanders have already lent a player for this tournament, but we must go back far! In 1989, the Islanders had lent Dave Chyzowki, but it was under the direction of Bill Torrey at that time!

Yes, without a doubt, past practices don't automatically dictate moves going forward; even under the same regime. However, I once again have to point to the fact that Dobson is sitting every night at the NHL level instead of getting top pairing minutes in Jrs. which leads me to believe that Lou & Co. don't put much stock in Jr. level experience for players they feel are capable to play at the pro level.

We'll see in a few weeks, I guess.

Looks like a very young and limber Nabokov (who was hands down fun to watch early in his career.)
I can attest to this, Nabakov was outstanding early in his career. I lived in San Francisco late 90s early 2000s, and saw him play his first 6 seasons or so. Sharks were always a fun team to watch, Thornton and Marleau were in there primes. They always seemed to be good, but could never get over that hump. Still the same even 20 years later.

Most kids drafted from the 2nd round and on are long shots to be NHL players, but before we write off Ishkakov and Salo lets see what they can do in the AHL. I expect that both will sign after their respective seasons are over in 2020 and next season we will have a far better idea whether or not they can contribute in the NHL.

True. I too definitely see Salo in BPort next season. And regardless of what has gone on for his Liiga clubs, there's enough of a player there to see what he has for 3 years in the AHL, even if his game to date isn't screaming "NHL".

Although possible, I'd be very surprised if Iskhakov is signed out of college after his sophomore year. Sure, if he'd put up 60+ points, I could see it. But a player his size who has had to deal with a few injury problems two seasons in a row - well, I just don't see what the logic in that would be.

I also believe the Isles have to make a few prospect decisions this summer. Wotherspoon, Aho, and Vande Sompel are RFAs. Bibeau and Coskey will be out of juniors. Doesn't Jenkins have to be signed within two years of his draft? And don't we also have several seniors in college at the moment (Adams, Pastujov)?

And the Wings have already released Moritz Seider.

Jenkins took a knee on knee on Wednesday just waiting for his MRI. Did not look good at the time. Hope it isn't too serious.
