That would seem to be a reason to NOT trade him....

Using that logic we should fill our team with cheap players who suck. I don't think Pelech is very good and the only reason a team would trade for him imo is his cheap contract and his youth. Someone might take a flyer that he will improve.

Know what would be even funnier? If Tavares and Marner don't click, like at all, and the Leafs call Lou asking about Bailey. Because, think about all the really fast guys Tavares has clicked with. Oh, right....

Lee and Bailey for Marner and Marleau. :sarcasm:

He mostly scores from the dots down. Scumbag isn't someone that stretches the ice like Marner.

I do feel those moron fans in Toronto don't see that their team is going to go the way of Dallas when they were all offense no defense.

No way in hell would I give up 4 firsts for Marner.

He’s a real good young player but if I’m giving up 4 firsts on an offersheet I want a surefire #1 Center, #1 Defensman, or a ridiculous goal scoring winger. Since those don’t come along and their teams would most likely match anyway, I don’t see it ever happening.

Just offer Matthews an 'A' as part of the deal and he'd probably jump ship. ;)

I chuckled but I also think what you have said here is partly true. It matters to a young player to be known as a Leader. Not the C, but an A is a logical progression to Captain. In time I want to see Barzal get the A. Maybe next season, he is already taking young players under his wing I read a few weeks ago. But wouldn't it be ironic if the Judas signing came back to bite the Leafs in signing their 3 young players. I can almost see Lou with a godfather sly smile planning a offer sheet to Matthews or Marner next year.

I predict a trade. Ho-Sang for Poolparty. I think Chia may have his doubts and may want Ho-Sang because of his past chemistry with McDavid.

I mean, it's Chiarelli, so who knows. But unless he does a Reinhart again, there should be no chance you land a recent 4th overall pick who just turned 20 for Ho-Sang.

Also, McDavid and Ho-Sang likely would be horrible linemates since both of them prefer to constantly have the puck on their stick. I can't see McDavid standing around twiddling his thumbs while Ho-Sang decides he wants to stickhandle for a minute.

I remember when Christiano Ronaldo used to do 100 step overs a game which was nice to watch but usually lead to nothing. Sir Alex was able cut that crap out of Ronaldo’s game and make him more of a team player. I’m hoping Trotz can have the similar affect on Ho sang like Sir Alex did on Ronaldo.

Not sure why Toronto media keeps pumping this "Isles plotting revenge on Leafs" thing.

So dull

Honestly, Toronto media should be smart not to pump it up. Players read this stuff...I'm sure they try to not let it get in their heads and brush it off, but if it could ultimately get them more money and they think it's possible another team may seek revenge and offer way more than they're worth to get back at Toronto? It may give some players (the ones that want to get PAID) reason to wait and hold out.

He's 24 years old with 131 games played. How about we wait and see how he turns out instead of "Spurgeoning" him to the highest bidder. At the very least he's a 5/6 guy that has 3/4 potential that we can still wait out. He's not a liability.

Matthews is going nowhere and Marner is a ****ty version of Barzal that doesn't play center. Pass.

I don't even care about the Leaf players, draft well, build from within, use our excess players to make trades for good players, and watch the rest happen.

Don't go and give up a ridiculous amount of picks for Marner. The Leafs have based their franchise for YEARS off of the next big free agent, it took them this long to get one. The NYI should never employ such a stupid gameplay.

Six points in their first pre-season game playing together last night.

Yeah, looks like Tavares is probably going to have a monster year. I think people need to get over it and move forward.

But preseason, against the weaker 'away' group of one of the worst teams in the league. Not to take anything away from him, but let's not concede the Richard to him yet.

I would not jump to any early conclusions yet. I watched part of that game, and also parts of the Isles game too. The Sens team that was iced was bad. Also it is too early to tell if there is any definite chemistry there yet. I didn't get the feeling they were dominating the ice when they were out there. What I can say is Judas scored a PP goal from where JVR usually played. I think we all know he is a good PP specialist. He will get his points there and in front of the net. It's always nice to get a couple of goals in your first preseason game. But it's nothing like he is a different player seeing he did the same thing last season on the Island. We need to see more and against better competition that's my take.
