Is Stamkos largely a passenger?

Won't make Team Canada 2022. He's done.

Shame he'll never appear on the ice for a best on best Team Canada.

Has a Sochi Gold Medal to go alongside these cups so terrific for him.

Yes. Passenger indeed.

All he's done in this series is wait for a shot in the right circle on the PP. And even than he's struggled.

He's past his prime and unfortunately has not got it done.

Stamkos had 45 Goals and 98 points two seasons ago.

He then had 29 Goals and 66 points in 57 games just last season.

Stamkos has had his two best Point production years of his career. He is not Past his prime.

How has he not got it done? lol. All he does is consistently score at a 40 goal, 80-90 point pace, year in and year out.

Kind of, but that’s partly due to the other players on the team too. In a less talented team he would stand out more, especially 5v5.

Why would Tampa do something that moronic.

Because Stamkos is a powerplay specialist at this point on a contender. Stamkos has been invisible since the period Tampa started to make a splash in 2014, he should have never been awarded a big contract. The Lightning have to dodge the cap because of this. However how brilliant their cap game is, they might not be allowed to do the same trick next year.

A powerplay specialist who gives you 40 goals and 90 points a year? He's underpaid if anything.

Looking at his 5v5 rates since 16-17, he is actually awesome at 5v5 and has produced better than ever at 5v5 over the past 5 years.

The guy has 305 points in his last 270 games.

Lol and people are saying he's a shell of his former self. You could easily argue that Post 2014 Stamkos is a better player than before.

This lol.

I don't understand this narrative from some people that Stamkos has been washed up since like 2013. How??

Let's also remember that Stamkos isn't supposed to be Tampa's main PP scorer. The way they are set up is the use him to draw defenders and open up the slot for Point. (Which has been extremely successful)

Yes he shoots some on the PP, but his main job is to cycle back up to the point or across to Kuch. Don't make the mistake of thinking that because they run the umbrella that he is being used as an Ovechkin. His usage and role are completely different.

He's still a good player for them, he's not the franchise player he used to be, but Tampa doesn't need that from him anymore.

Could they spend his cap better elsewhere? Probably, but it's not exactly a waste right now.
