He wasn't very good in the finals but was good in thebother three rounds and you need to win each round to win a cup.
Don’t think people realize just how good he was the first 3 rounds of the playoffs.
Stamkos isn’t a passenger on these Tampa teams, McIlheinny on the other hand….
What, exactly, did he "not get done"?He's past his prime and unfortunately has not got it done.
Going team first with hsi contract was pretty big.Stamkos is nowhere near a passenger. Without his voice the team would be nowhere as he keeps the locker room aligned like the stars. Without him the Lightning don't make it past the Conference Finals. Same thing if you got rid of Killorn. I mean Hedman would be the other choice as captain, but Stamkos is too valuable of a captain for the Lightning.
He may not be the player he used to be, but he can still contribute in very valuable ways. If Tampa is moving salary on the other hand it's very much likely going to be Johnson and Gourde.
Has not gotten what done, exactly? Winning the cup?Yes. Passenger indeed.
All he's done in this series is wait for a shot in the right circle on the PP. And even than he's struggled.
He's past his prime and unfortunately has not got it done.
No question
Yes, the Cup helps his legacy
Yes, he's overpaid
Kucherov, Point, Vasy, Hedman, McDonagh are all easily more important than him. Cernak and Sergachev are arguably just as important if not more important
Yes, Tampa should consider moving him. It won't happen though so it's mental masturbation
HFBoards is the only place an NHL team captain can be 4th in the playoffs for scoring and have people claim he's a passenger.
But he WAS a passenger. Big time. It was obvious if you watched every game.HFBoards is the only place an NHL team captain can be 4th in the playoffs for scoring and have people claim he's a passenger.
I think this is 100% true. Stamkos is obviously loved by his teammates. And it's probably better for the Bolts that the Captain is not their best player. Keeps things more balanced.Don't underestimate the importance of wanting to win for a teammate. If nothing else, Stamkos is loved by his team. I remember when the Wings were winning, Yzerman talked about how much they wanted to win for Osgood, since people were calling him a 'passenger'.
Without him digging for the puck in that scrum, where he eventually popped it out to McDonagh, where eventually Colton scored; it’d have gone to OT.One heck of a player. The man shows up when games matter most.
I would like the ones calling Stamkos a "passenger" to clarify exactly how many passengers there are on the Stanley Cup champion team? There must be at least 15-17 passengers.
