If PIT is really interested in ROR then I want Pouliot and Bennett

But id rather trade McGinn for Despres at best
or Harrington at worst. I hate to lose McG too but he is exactly
the player Im moving in season to improve our depth defensively

Why would you want that? Bennett sucks and Pouliot has potential but still needs a lot of work defensively.

I wouldn't trade McGinn for Harrington either.

People, we DO NOT want Pouliot. Having Barrie and Derrick on the back end will be nightmare (I had to put it in bold because it would be that bad, his strength is around Stefan Elliott's level). Effin Spezza would be able to out muscle them.

We should do our hardest and best to try and get Maatta (even if it is practically impossible to get him), even if they means we have to add to ROR IMO. Personally speaking, if we trade ROR, it has to be a trade beneficial to us. We shouldn't have to rely and get secondary scraps like Harrington, Pouliot, or the often injured Bennett. I would rather trade in our division if that means we are getting a better defenseman than pieces from Penguins IMO.

Trading McGinn is a very risky proposition with the uncertainty over O'Reilly. They're both UFA's at the same time but if they lose both that's a fairly big hit to their forward depth. Especially given the age of Tangs and Iggy, and that none of the prospects right now jump out at you as potential top 9 guys apart from Bleackley and the question mark also known as Hishon.

O'Reilly might be able to bring back some kind of suitable top 9 forward in addition to a D if you package him well, but McGinn probably can't.

That's a very scary thought. I like McGinn a lot. I think he can play in so many spots in our roster, which makes him him very useful player. We need players like him. Mitchell/McGinn. They are not exactly top-6 players, but they are not out of place short-term. They can stunt. ROR of course, used to be 1st line winger. We probably have to keep at least one of those, but one thing is for sure, we can't keep letting these players walk away every time they hit UFA, because they are good players with some value. We need to start using our assets better!

McGinn isn't consistent enough for him to be a detrimental loss to this team. Especially since he is already making 3 million. The Avs could replace him through free agency. I like how he plays, but too many nights he isn't physical, and he isn't overly talented to make up for that.

I don't agree. Out of all the forwards, he's the guy that gets shifted from line to line anywhere through the top-9 and he still manages to be effective. Sure, he's got consistency issues but at the same time, he isn't consistently playing with the same players. Our centers are mostly shoot-first guys which doesn't really help his case, since he's more of a north-south kind of guy but he does have a goalscoring touch.

Why do you think Penguin fans are salivating at the thought of getting him? Don't kid yourself, McGinn's been a 20 goal scorer for the past 3 years, consistently playing on the same line, with one of the top players in the world (Sid or Geno), he would probably be, consistently a 30-35 goal scorer. Those guys don't grow on trees. Despite what they'll tell you, Penguin fans know this to be true and that's why they've been after him for the better part of almost 2 years now. I would really hate for us to trade him only to have him turn into a goal scoring machine unless the return is fantastic.

I have no problem with him making $3M per year, I think that's around the right number for what he brings right now.

I'm fine with his salary right now too, I just don't think him being traded would be a big loss to the team.

I don't think Penguin fans are exactly salivating over him either. I think they see a team that had good forward depth last season and needs a defenceman, and have become obsessed with the idea of McGinn. Pens fans also offer up weak returns for him too, so I'm not sure they value him that high. Most probably haven't even watched him play much.

There's also no way McGinn scores 35 goals. Duchene has been his most common center this season, and I'm sure last season too, and he barely scores 20 goals. Crosby isn't going to add 15 goals to that total. Sure, he might score close to 30 in one season, just like Jones and Stewart, but he is a 20 goal in pretty much every other season.

I like McGinn, but he doesn't score consistently, he doesn't hit consistently, he doesn't really fight, he isn't that great defensively. He's a good top-9 forward who could be traded to make the team better. It's not that I want him off the team, but when people people are talking about him and free agency, he is not the type of player you spend 4+ million on.

Who do we replace him with? Everberg is a nice idea but we are not there yet.

Well no time like the present right?

And even while I love McG as well and think he will do well in a place like PIT, you have to pay to get. If he can return Despres then do it.
Its not like we are getting Martin in return. Its a young d man with better upside than a guy like Holden actually playing in the NHL on a regular basis.

When injuries in the top six hits McGinn can move up and will hopefully get better chances. Lately he's not been very involved in the play or have had a chance to use his shot. Perhaps it's related to this back problem.

Mcginn is like a Downie, he's a type of player you need. I don't want to trade him unless we get something decent in return (no aging vets). He's a good complimentary piece for any team. He shouldn't be in our top 6 at all, but if someone is injured he can fill that hole. I would really like him to stay on the 3rd line.

He's a type of player that will be helpful in the playoffs. We're running out of gritty players that has some scoring skill and truthfully he is our most skilled bottom 6 type player. You need some gritty players to win in the playoffs and we don't have many.

This team is never going to get better if we keep trading our depth players. I'm not looking forward to the return with our current management for Mcginn.

Meh, he's probably still hurting. When he has good chemistry he's a great player, like last season. When he doesn't click, like the couple seasons before Landeskog/MacKinnon, it's harder for him to look good. Pretty standard for a playmaker.

He'll go on a hot streak soon and all will be forgotten. I'd give it a full year before seeing if Stastny is back to what he was before last season. Doubt that happens though.

I'm not sure this the right place for this, but it looks like Blues fans are already annoyed with Stastny for "floating" too much.

It's funny because he said a big reason he left here was that he didn't want to be relegated to the 3C in a couple of years. With as good as the STL line has been doing, they have been more like the 2nd line and Stastny's line has been more like the shutdown, 3rd line.

He is likely still feeling some of his injuries suffered this year though.

Greetings from a Sabres here! Some folks on our thread were debating what it would take to trade for ROR. We've assumed a D man would likely be involved but, I have to say, Risto and Zadorov are most likely off the table. Pysk and McCabe are excellent, probably NHL ready, D men. Also, we have TONS of assets. Coming in peace. Thoughts?

Sabresprospects.com for a bit of insight into the farm system. We also hold our 1st, NYI 1st, Blues 1st, our 2nd, and Blues 2nd in this upcoming draft. I'm probably forgetting something.

Girgensons seems like a good starting point.
