If McDavid asks for and receives a trade does that finally force fans to stop supporting them?

If he thought demanding a trade could eventually be a possibility then he shouldn’t have signed a maximum deal. And I don’t believe he ever will. He would first “Eichel” the Oilers and push management out. Didn’t the city fund the arena too or was that Calgary? Maybe the city would even step in an demand management changes.

Short of relocation most fans wont stop supporting their favorite teams.
Not many things are more faithful than a sports fan.

Why’s this thread “trash”?

McDavid, the best player in the world, you guessed it! Is competitive. With the shitshow Oilers are putting on and if he decides it’s going nowhere just like the past 10 years, then YEAH he will ask for a trade. Oilers fans are just delusional thinking everyone wants to live there or something.

He isn't going to ask for a trade and wouldn't be traded even if he did.
If he went public and asked for a trade (I agree he wouldn’t), they would have no choice but to move him. It would be absolute chaos until they did.

I mean, not in the way you think. McDavid can ask for a trade but how could the GM possibly move him without completely committing franchise suicide?
Because if he ever did ask for a trade, and made that public, he would a cancer to the team and organization until they moved him.

He has no one but himself and his agent to blame. He should have signed a Matthews deal.

But everyone was drunk on the little run they had for the first time in 11 years and he pushed all-in with pocket 8’s.

He’s not the type of kid who is going to make himself the centre of a circus by demanding out. But I reserve the right to revisit if that shit show continues for more than 2 years.

McDavid could threaten to sit out.

And then what? He sits at home and wastes a year of his career for no reason.

Oilers go collect the no.1 overall pick in the 2020 draft to go with the no.7 overall pick this year. If he's not going to want to play with that plus Draisaitl plus RNH that's just stupid.

Oilers have no incentive to make a trade for him any time soon.

Why? People keep saying this, but I doubt it. He'd sit at home embarass himself and the Oilers would just collect the no.1 overall pick for the 2020 draft.

He'd never do that to begin with, kid is not wasting a year of his career at age 22. No great player in the history of the game has sat out a season like that, it would tarnish his legacy big time.

One of the silliest posts in the history of the internet.

A member of an online hockey forum poses a question and somehow that is the fault of Toronto based media? What puerile commentary.

What a garbage post.

btw - I don't watch television other then to watch sports and movies so don't pretend I'm sticking up for the media, I loath the plastic media culture.

McDavid: 'I thought my leg was in two pieces'

But keep spreading those rumours like a school girl...

If he does it next season (assuming they won't qualify for the playoffs again), it will just show how weak McDavid is. Ovi for instance since he came into the League in 2005 played on a much weaker teams believe or not until like 08-09 and especially first 3 seasons and he didn't request for a trade. People need to chill over here and stop being sorry for McDavid. In the end of the day, he decided to signed such a big contract for that long. He knew where he is going to. If situation will continue for 3+ years, thats a difference story

That is hard to believe, could be true but they still finished first of their weak division in 2007-2008, making the situation quite different.

If they miss the playoff next year that would be quite different than the Capitals just earning their third division title in a row.

Steve Yzerman, Mario Lemieux are maybe better example of player having to wait quite a lot before having a team that have any remote shot at winning the cups around them.

Probably top 3 worst trade I've ever seen on this site.

OEL + Keller for Matthews, Nurse and Kapanen?
Matthews + Kapanen for McDavid?

WOW

2006- 2007: Same crap + Semin
2007-2008: Same crap + old Fedorov & Kozlov, rookie Backstrom

What I am trying to say is that Capitals hasn't become a true play-off team and powerhouse until like 08-09 even though they qualified in 07-08 to playoffs and won their division. If you look strictly at names and rosters what Capitals had first three seasons, they were quite "astonishing" and worse the Edmonton roster on paper

Too nice of a guy to not support. When Auston Matthews asks for a trade away from the fishbowl that is Toronto... will Leafs support him?

He really should have insisted on a 3-5 year deal. Crosby and Malkin both did 5 year second contracts and made sure the team was on the right track before throwing away their whole careers in a frustrating situation. Connor should have bet on himself and put the pressure on these clowns to turn this team around fast. His talent +$40 million should be plenty of financial security for anyone.
