What I am trying to say is that Capitals hasn't become a true play-off team and powerhouse until like 08-09 even though they qualified in 07-08 to playoffs and won their division. Crosby and Malkin both did 5 year second contracts and made sure the team was on the right track before throwing away their whole careers in a frustrating situation. Connor should have bet on himself and put the pressure on these clowns to turn this team around fast. His talent +$40 million should be plenty of financial security for anyone.
