I don't really object to how Dundon handled this, but is the suggestion here that he planned to let Waddell go out and interview for other GM positions, get a sense of the market, and come back with a number to match?

Dundon and Waddell have openly said that when Fenton was fired, Dundon told Waddell that he should look into it and see what they would offer and that he would be happy to adjust his pay based on that, but that the Canes job was Waddell's for life if he wanted to stay.

So Waddell talked, photocopied some scouting data, and came back to the Canes.

"Don Waddell is a turrrrilbe GM! LOL The caens are stupidz!11!!1 LOLZ"

These threads do seem to do a pretty good job at telling us who here has actually worked a salaried job and who hasn't.

especially in cheap, dysfunctional organizations, which the Hurricanes clearly are

Hot take of the year: Canes fans were never a super breed of hockey fans that were smarter, friendlier and humbler than everyone else, they just rarely happened to be involved in hot topics where other fans weighed, now that they feel offended by other fans there's replies are just as passive aggressive and defensive as the rest of ours.

I mean, I get why the false idea that the franchise is broke would be a touchy subject but the only reason other posters bought in is things that were reported about this GM situation and Bergervin's low ball offer sheet that he obviously thought would work, so I don't really blame poster's for falling for it. Where are those loveable, self-effacing, bunch of jerks now? I've seen a couple, but these posts aren't a good look.

Dundon is trying to create a culture of sacrifice in Carolina. Tough negotiations are a part of that coming to fruition. Is it a wise strategy to grind everyone in the organization down into taking a team-friendly contract? I'm bearish on that considering players and FO personnel do have options at their disposal. However, it's not my money on the line.

You know, I really don't understand why TML posters have such a bad rep on here.

I gotcha, and I was probably reading into it too much. It sounded like the narrative had gone to Dundon deciding not to do this in June/July because he planned on letting Waddell interview for jobs in August, which would be dumb for obvious reasons.

No but we are inbred hockey fans. So in that sense we are like HF royalty.
