I don't see it as laughable. A team that wants to add some scoring for the playoffs could pay a 2nd.
1. He’s worth a 2ndLol okay sure Habs, whatever you say.
The Habs should just keep him and re-sign him, tbh. If you re-sign him and he either continues what he has done or plays at least reasonably well, you'd be a lot more likely to get that kind of return next year than this year. I can't see how any reasonable contender is going to want to trade a 2nd for Kovalchuk when they could have had him literally for free a month ago.
The Leafs paid a 2nd 2 years in a row for 4Cs. Boyle and turtleneck. A late 2nd for an added scoring threat in the playoffs isn't a big issue.sorry, they wont get a 2nd without conditions attached

I’ve never understood this. Just because you offer him a contract doesn’t mean he has to sign it.GMs will be to prideful to give up a 2nd for a guy they could have had for free a month ago.
that's a nice offer, but habs already have i think 11 picks in the next draft. they'll hold out for a 2nd, or just sign himI'll give a 3rd and a 5th!
habs could easily eat ceci's contract.. let's revisit this in 3 weeksI'd do a second if you take cici as the leafs .gives us more flexibility to maybe add something else as well
i don't think so. he's super motivated to be playing in a hockey-crazy market, playing in the top 6 with a young playmaker ..he's revitalized playing in an up-tempo system with a lot of young guysI hope they are going to be quick about is as I expect Kovalchuk to regress very soon.

That’s when the entire league thought he was done as an NHL player. He’s proven he can still play. Just because teams didn’t see his value before doesn’t preclude them from seeing value in him now. Especially at a $700k cap hitA second round draft pick for a guy who was available to the entire league after he was waived and then bought out? Bergevin is dreaming in technicolor.
locker room?I would laugh if someone actually offered a 2nd for Kovalchuk and Bergevin said no because of Locker Room intangibles
Then why not keep him and re-sign him?As they should.
He's more valuable as Suzuki's winger than a third round pick. He's been fantastic.
It says right in the tweet from LeBrun that Montreal is examining the merits of keeping him. Then why not keep him and re-sign him?
