I hope Toffoli ends up on a lot of Hart ballots this season. He’ll likely never sniff this type of success again in his career and this is very likely a one off season for him. But he deserves some recognition for what he’s done. Without him, this team doesn’t sniff a playoff spot.

Why one off? He's scored 31 before.

He works hard, plays a 200ft game and he's probably the most talented scorer on the team. If he had a top 10 center, he'd probably have 40.

Habs are best suited to play vs ballerina tutu hockey teams (Leafs, Edm, Jets) - I also expect Price to be back and he’ll be rested, which is important given he’s been lights out in the playoffs s last 3-appearances - 2014, 2017, last year

Throw in a well rested Gallagher...
if light out price for those years couldn't get advance any further then light out price or not isn't good enough. period

I watched him many times. Imo he is gonna be a PP specialist in this league. Not because he isnt good at 5vs5. He is playing well. But. Just think his bread and butter is on the PP.

His bread and butter should be on the PP,that's what snipers do. But he looks like he has the tools to play at even strength, reads the plays and gives effort in both ends. Looks like he can make the smart play and is not just a one dimensional player. For a first game and it being against the stifling flames, he did alright. He didn't hurt the team and didn't look out of place, can't ask for too much more from a newbie.

Thanks god we're done with Calgary this season. Just the most boring games.

Bye Flames, see you next season.

I don’t think the announcers mentioned Staal’s name once all game.

CC looked decent enough, a few blunders but a few sneaky shots, still shocked Dom started him on the top line, has to be a first for a Habs prospect that I can remember.

If the Flames catch us they'd only have to tie us as in order to do so they'd have to pass us in wins.

That being said if we consider the following:
Habs win = 2
Flames Loss = 2
Habs OT loss = 1
Flames OT loss = 1

Any combination in the Habs last 9 and Flames last 8 that equals 11 and we make the playoffs.

Say Habs Go

3-3-3 in our last 9 that's 9 points, thus meaning if the flames lose 1 game in regulation or 2 in overtime they are eliminated.
It’s possible, but it really isn’t gonna happen.

They managed to make Calgary, an average team at best, look like the 2011 Bruins over the course of this series. It's the worst I've seen this team play in a long while and they are lucky they won yesterday because they couldn't generate offense nor defend properly.

I liked Kotkaniemi and Allen. That's about it.

Decent game....

Anderson....wow, he's tough everywhere and plays 200 ft game as good as anyone.

Toffoli....where would we be without him?

Caufield....the very definition of a perimeter game. He better have more fight in him or he's an AHL journeyman. Yes, I now it's his first game, but it was weak. He got pinned in Calgary zone and he didn't try to fight it even a tiny bit. We'll see...

Damn, a "he looks small out there" comment away from stupid Caulfield comments bingo.

Yup.

And now they have Romanov on the TS and he will most likely stay there unless a defenseman can't go. And even then, they have Kulak as a healthy scratch, so if I'm not mistaken, they'd have to use him before using Romanov as an emergency loan.

I could be making a mistake on that one.
Still can't believe they put Romy on the taxi squad...............we now have no Dman hitting anyone....it should have been Kulak hit the taxi squad.

i thought habs played well. we stopped the useless forecheck and sat back more like flames do. we played wrong strategy against flames the first 2. cole was fine. if he scored on that first rush, hf boards would be still down today.

Man Suzuki worries me. He always looks gased out there, falling down, slow... Hopefully he can get his game back on track for playoffs if we get in.

Or maybe he is actually gassed?

Sophomore seasons, it's not unusual for players to struggle at times.

Throw in that the Habs have been playing a crazy schedule the last little bit and many players are probably feeling it.

The only players I believe they can send to the TS now are players who were not on the roster at the TDL or were in the minors or waiver-exempt.

So basically, the only ones they can send to the TS are Primeau, Romanov, KK, Suzuki, and Evans (since they don't need waivers) and Byron, Lindgren, Ouellet, and Frolik, who were all on the TS at the 3PM deadline on TDL.

Everyone else cannot be sent to the TS because they were on the main roster at the deadline.

The cap system is silly. How come a team cannot acquire cap space when players are legitimately hurt? Price, Drouin, Byron.

I know nothing about the Flames fanbase but they are at 8 pages for their GDT and PGT combined... That's almost Hurricanes level interest. Has it always been that?

That’s what happens when Sutter is your coach!!

It's not the cap that bothers me. I hate the recall rule. And this year even more because the reason you have a taxi squad is to carry more guys due to the pandemic and the tight schedule. So if you're adamant about limiting the number of recalls, raise it from 4 to 6 or something around there.

And it's not only because of the cap gymnastics the Habs need to do to get Caufield in the line-up. That only put that to the forefront for us. But even without the Caufield situation, I don't get why teams are still stuck with only four recalls.

Considering a younger and better Elias Lindholm only makes 4.8m I have a hard time digesting anything over 4.5m for Danault. Lindholm may be due for a raise but still it shows how skewed his salary demands really are.

Lindholm signed his contract as a RFA if im not mistaking . Backlund and Pageau are two good comparable for Danault, middle six centers that were about to hit free agency, but they were pre-covid contract so i expect a close to 1M drop/year for Danault

This is a good point about the cap system.

This is a good point about the call up system.

Both systems have their flaws.
