Think of a poor man's Christian Dvorak
Lovely. If Habs just needed a body to put in a uniform to field a 23 man roster, is there not a big mean knucklehead out there they could have grabbed? What's the fascination every single management team has with soft, useless players?

If we just want a warm body, isn't there someone out there willing to flip Byron's contract for that of a healthy-but-useless skater ?

how does it work if he bought out though? at min wage, have no clue to be honest
Buyouts can only occur at specific moments in the year, essentially over the summer, and college UFAs want to sign in the Spring, so his contract will still be on the books then.

And given how we're rebuilding, college UFAs who don't want to be stuck behind a stacked roster should see the Habs as being of interest, other than on D where we do have a lot of young NHLers and highend prospects.

Tierney was the only center waived yesterday (the other two were wingers) and Habs were starting to run out of center depth on NHL contracts with all the injuries.

He cost nothing, his UFA at the end of the season and will fill-in for an injured center and then maybe a traded center if Drouin - who is currently playing center -, Monahan or Dvorak gets traded before the deadline.

Also, he's not great, so he helps the tank.

Habs had Drouin play center, so who really cares if the guy's really a true center or not :)

Probably not for free.

We're tanking and have a billion injuries so they claimed a guy to play 10 minutes a night as the 4C for a few weeks. Who cares. He's 6'1 he's not some smurf either.

Since fighting is such a useless thing in the NHL, and having someone who is able to skate and actually play hockey is obviously a huge upgrade over a goon.

Complaining about this waiver pickup is ridiculous.

I would have liked the Habs waive some guys to grab Tolvanen.

Instead they grab Tierney.

I get that the situation has changed and they need bodies right now. But I still find the whole thing very irritating.

I would have waived 1/2 of the vets on the team to grab Tolvanen. Hughes just needed to pick one.

A lot of us think the Habs are winning too many games… so Hughes goes and grabs Tierney… to help the Habs in the short term.

I was annoyed before this pick up and this isn’t helping.

To each their own

Could have had Gauthier,a Franco for about the same .
Gauthier played well with Sens in his first game .

If it is a nothing move… then why did Hughes make it?

It is not a nothing move.

It’s a pain in the ass that is not helping get a better draft pick move. It’s a pointless move where the Habs are in the standings. It underlines something that has been annoying all year.
