No question the injured list influenced this move. Also believe it could be trade deadline related. If they move a forward or two for draft picks will need bodies to fill out the lineup.

Someone mentioned Tolvanen, wonder if a few teams are sorry they didn't take a flyer on him.

If he plays well a couple of games, he won’t be worth more the a waiver pickup.

How about Anthony Richard?
I mean who knows how many teams put a claim on him ? Teams are always looking for depth C at the TDL, same for Dmen. Just take a team that have multiple injuries at the C position.

Richard is not even a Center and we need bodies in Laval.

Who cares about AHL teams playoffs?Means absolutely nothing .
Too young to remember when the Habs were a great organization top to bottom, eh? Voyageurs under Al MacNeil won 3 Calder Cups in the 70s. Robinson, Mondou, Nyrop, Engblom, Lambert, Chartraw, Wilson all won in the A before graduating to the Bigs. 1985 Sherbrooke Canadiens won the Calder Cup. '86 Stanley Cup winning team included rookies Roy, Richer, Lemieux, Skrudland, Lalor, Kordic. Maybe there's a connection?

You want to create a winning culture with a pipeline of good players or do you want to go back to the dodgy organizational depth of the last 30 years? Because you're doing a good job of arguing for the latter.

Does it matter if you want to tank? Dach can’t win faceoffs to save his life, Drouin is a converted. Does it really matter?

Dach's face-off percentage over his last stretch was in the mid 40% which isn't great but it's livable. He's not gonna be taking shut down center face-offs, so we can all stop panicking about the skill that almost always improves through experience.

Its why we are on page 8 (and counting) for a deprh waiver pickup.
Circonstances of the season + Tolvanen + last real tank chance + time of the year, etc.

Next year, even if the Habs still suck, it won’t be close to the level of talent that will be available this year.

I think it also comes down to the fact that this team has won way too many games this year and any move that isn’t clear cut helping the tank or the rebuild is annoying at this point.

I think the last thing fans want is to have a not bad enough/ not good enough team… which the Habs are in the process of repeating if they don’t align the things.

So the Tierney pickup is somehow incarnating the last 30 years of not paying the price to get the cornerstone a franchise needs to be continuously contenders. In itself it is not a very important move but with the circumstances it becomes irritating.

Fair enough even if I think that if they want help in Laval, they can make some moves there too.

That would require us trading NHL assets (like picks or prospects) for AHL players which goes against your thinking even more than claiming Tierney.

You can't get assets for free at this time of the season. Bringing people up from TR just push the problem down and doesn't make Laval better.

Even the pre Bergevin AHL clubs had success. Price, Subban, Pacioretty, and a whole bunch of other roster players came up from those teams.

Honestly I do like this pickup

I'm thinking he's still probably a 20 point 4C in the NHL, but could put up 30 points playing top-9 with better linemates, but if he's your best option as 2/3C your team is gonna suck. Similar quality to Evans but cheaper.
