What? Why in God's name would you rather wait to sign someone who's currently producing at a 75 point pace? That's only going to increase the contract because Guentzel is really ****ing good.
So he stays motivated and keeps up the pace that hes on.
I'm guessing Jake has made about 350k per year after taxes in his career.
Its highly motivating to be at your best every night when you have millions of dollars on the line and your not a millionaire.
He's making what Ehlers is making and I'm not sure he's a superior player to Ehlers. People mentioned that he should have got a Nylander deal; William Nylander is a far superior player to Jake Guentzel and if they offered a straight up deal you'd be an insane person to not take it.
This turns the Pearson contract/trade into an agonizer.
I already think of him as Marchand-lite when he's on.
And then the Penguins have Guentzel at $7.5 million, with him holding out until December next season. Sounds like a great plan to keep a guy motivated.
What have both Ehlers and Nylander done that Guentzel hasn't done? I guess they both managed to score 60 points the last two seasons and Guentzel didn't. There's that.I'll grant you Pastrnak has established himself as in that elite tier, but what have either of Ehlers or Nylander done to distance themselves so far ahead of Guentzel?
... Come on, dude. Do we have to pretend nothing impacts anything else? What does Guentzel's contract have to do with Pearson?
RFA have no leverage, Jake wasn't going anywhere.
And their is no way possible he would get anywhere close to 7.5 million.

Did you just ignore what happened to Nylander this year?
