Wait... like, raise it to ground level?

Something's fishy here.

I mean, the ice itself is like 20-30 feet below ground level. Ever notice how the entrances to the lower level sections are at the same elevation as the VIP lot? No stairs, no escalator, nothing but flat floors all the way from the gate to the top of your section. Then as you walk down the stairs towards your seat and the ice, you're literally going underground.

I think he's worried about our clay soil damaging the foundation around the arena. That's half the reason most houses here don't have basements. So I think raising it is a good idea.

If anyone is going to split captains, it would be the Canes, but let's go on the assumption that they're not going to do something stupid and just name one guy as captain. We all agree on a handful of possibilities but there's no clearcut guy. But now it's time to plant your flag. One person, one vote. Who's it going to be?
With a OP like this, who needs the rest of the thread?

Wrong people but i was right about associate captain thing. What do i win?

BTW from my understanding Nashville splits their captain.
Maybe we go a similar routes as the preds with the associate captain thing.

Captain - Justin Williams
Associate Captain - Jeff Skinner
Assistant Captain - Jordan Staal
Assistant Captain - Justin Faulk
Assistant Captain - Slavin/Rask

Sweet Jesus I hate this.

Half-ass measures never work and they send a message of a lack of confidence. The right answer is Williams for the next two, followed by Slavin or Skinner.

We need to move on from a Staal being captain. If they had made Faulk full time C I’d support that, although from a purely meritorious standpoint, I think Skinner has paid his dues and operates at a high enough level year in and year out to wear it.

I would have had no problem with this devoid of the massive buildup they did with the whole "are you READY?" type announcements and whatnot. To do that and then pick two guys? That's absolute trash. And as far as the choices are concerned, it's super weird. If you were going to give it to a veteran, Williams makes every bit of sense. He's vocal, he's a new presence in the room, and he's universally respected. Jordan hasn't ever felt part of the community to be honest. I can't recall a single instance where he's been the focal point of an off the ice promotion or charity event where it wasn't team mandated. It's just a strange situation. Faulk at least makes sense, but even there it's sort of a ......well, okay.

I'm really sorry. I feel responsible. But instead of repeating all the reasons that the Canes totally Cane'd this whole process, I'm gonna defend myself by saying that it's fairly obvious at this point that there's no "real" captain in our room, else we'd have made it official today. Even Eric Staal wasn't "really" captain material. Captains aren't really named. Putting the "C" on a guy's jersey is merely confirming what is established in the room. In that sense, the Canes really haven't had a captain since Brindy. Guys wear letters, but we don't really have a captain, in the true sense of the word. At least, not yet. This was just a way to kick the can down the road for a season or two while one of the young guys establishes himself as "captain material." Maybe Aho?

Luke hates it and thinks he knows more about the dynamics of a hockey lockeroom than Ron Francis.

Clearly this is a great decision and will work out swimmingly.

Why rip Luke when he's just saying the same thing 95 percent of us are saying?

I feel like Luke is treated the same way I am around here. He's right the vast majority of the time, but vilified for it. Canes coverage would suck without Luke. He's the only person holding anyone accountable.

Two guys who were already vets on the team last year. The team where apparently nobody was worthy of being Captain yet. And when asked what had changed the response was basically "Man why you hassling me? It don't matter."

 Treated the same way you are and then say "he's right the vast majority of the time". Oh Kev, never change.
