Interesting. I read Peters' recent comments on how impressed he is with Slavin off-ice (doesn't drink, married, disciplined, etc.). I've heard pretty much the opposite about Faulk. From that standpoint I would think it is an on-ice decision, but then you have Jordan who is half the competitor that Skinner is.

At the end of the day, if it gets Faulk re-signed I am cool with it.

The interesting thing is the long term implications. Staal's contract should have him around for a while, and you'd have to hope that Faulk will be around for a long time. Guess they have no plans to give it to Aho or Slavin or anyone else anytime soon.

And the other thing is, if both Staal and Faulk are locked in long term, then it's not easy to just strip one of them in order to make the other guy a full time C.

Perhaps this is creating a pretext for one of them to be dumped, so we can have a real captain :amazed:

It's all Kev's fault.

Actually, I don't hate it. There still isn't anybody who has risen head and shoulders above everyone else in the room. That leaves you with the option to either anoint someone who isn't ready/deserving as the captain, continue to roll with 3 A's, or split the captaincy. Option A is trouble, and I guess they got tired of the questions associated with option B. Personally, I don't have a preference between B or C. So... yeah, whatever.

I think Buffalo did it a few years ago with Drury and Briere. I'm curious what they thought of it, although I think that was more of a case where they had two guys on the same plane above the others, rather than what we're seeing here.

Wow. I think this is the first decision in the Francis Peters era that I've outright hated. Obviously we're not in the room to see what's going on, but I'm surprised at Staal as a choice, and after all the buildup of needing to pick a captain they can't pick one captain. Seems pretty half assed. Oh well, onto the season.

You know Jordan and Eric are different players right?

I don't get the hate for Jordan because all of the reports of him as a great voice in the locker room.

In that respect I guess we really could have done worse.

That's exactly my issue. You're basically locking Slavin and Aho out of it long term now, as stripping one of Faulk and Staal could look ugly down the road. Unless one of them isn't sticking around for more than a couple years I guess

I find it hard to have an opinion on this one way or the other. We have little idea of what these guys are like in the room, what type of personality the rest of the team needs from whomever holds the honor or whether the ‘C’ has any real meaning at all.

Perhaps they made it clear that one or both of them might not keep the C long term. No matter what, it just seems off.

I'm aware... but that isn't a comment about Jordan. I think most would agree that if you are looking primarily at on-ice factors, Skinner is the fiercest competitor.

Jordan is absolutely a horse but I have heard from John/Tripp that he has expressed in the past that he doesn't want to be Captain. That was in reference to the team not having a Captain last year. Which makes some sense, because Peters could have easily named Faulk or Jordan Captain last year. Seems like a half-measure now.
