Everyone collectively played like ****, no excusing anyone. I didn't see them give up, like they don't care. I see more as they lose confidence and try too hard. They were pressing in the begging of the third but it's not like they were loafing it, especially in the offensive zone. They were scrambling on defense no doubt.

Cliche kills penalties. Until Malone does there will be a need for Cliche. Especially without Hejda.

The Corsi doesn't surprise me at all. Most of the Oilers damage was on the rush and PP, it certainly wasn't puck possession.

Protecting Varly is good and all, but he played like ****. Didn't make one save to bail out teammates

Varly's bailed out the teams defensive breakdowns time and time again. He wasn't great tonight but I'll let it pass since he's stolen wins for us.

Avs have had several games like this against Oilers. They are a terrible team but somehow manage to score on every mistake Avs make. Didn't Avs manage to turn a 5-1 lead into a loss against them last year?

That is why I hate the Oilers and their fanbase with everything I got.

They somehow beat us when we suck
They somehow beat us when they suck
They somehow beat us when their roster is filled with AHL scrubs
And we they do beat us, they thrash us.

Then they rub it in with all their might. We have been trolled more times by them the last 3-5 season than Nuck fans in the same time frame.

Then they somehow make these outrageous claims of Petry being better than EJ, Dubnyk over Varlamov, butthurt over the Calder Trophy, Schultz is better than any defenseman we have anywhere in other organization, and how Hall iz the bestest player from both clubs AINEC.

I would sell our 1st rounder in return if we could beat them 20-0.

Nonsense JSG was awesome tonight. Didn't allow a single goal or spill a sip of his precious drink mixture.

Got a question for all you guys: Is there any particular reason Marc-Andre Cliche is still playing on this team? I've been waiting to give him a chance to get used to NHL level before forming an opinion on this guy but he's just so frikkin' BLAH!!!! (that should be his name 'BLAH')

He's no particularly good offensively, defensively or on faceoffs (40.6%)...there's really no reason to have this guy on our team. Over the years, even guys like Matt Hendricks, Ben Guite, Philippe Dupuis were given opportunities in that same role and at least they showed you SOMETHING at some point. This guy is just BLAH!

We got him off waivers, so it didn't cost us anything but I think after 20 games, it's time to give that spot to the guy who rightfully earned it in training camp and that's Brad Malone. While Malone may not be much better initially at least he's shown that he's got some potential and could improve given the chance.

I agree, Cliche is like Kevin Porter without the porn 'stache, which is to say, largely useless. Malone wasn't impressive in his couple of games either though. I think ultimately it's kind of a wash - if we had a much better role player waiting in the wings to improve the team I would say go for it but we don't at the moment. I suppose Malone at least brings a bit more physical edge.

I don't think anyone is saying that. PAP has been bad most of this season. He needs to shape it up, but we know he can play at a top 6 level consistently in the NHL... He has done it for 3 years previous to his one. IMO he needs to be back on Duchene's line.

Absolutely agree.

I hope somebody has a talk with Duchene tonight. He didn't use his linemates at all and there's no excuse for that. We're shorthanded as it is and Duchene completely took O'Reilly and MacKinnon out of the game.

The lines were poorly composed to begin with. Our 3rd line was the worst of the bunch as they kept getting hemmed in to their own end. I don't quite understand the idea of having a line of Mitchell, Talbot and McGinn when you have a complete line of centers with Duchene,RoR and Mack. We are in a position to have a 3-pronged line attack but somehow we don't take advantage.

RoR-Duchene-PAP (played very well to start the year)
Lando-Stastny-McGinn
Mitchell-MacKinnon-Talbot

is much better than what we had tonight. I'd even take it a step further:

McGinn-Duchene-PAP (worked pretty well last year)
Lando-Stastny-MacKinnon
Mitchell-ROR-Talbot (this line can be used to shutdown until Tanguay comes back)

is what I would personally do. (actually, since Mitchell can't pass the puck to save his life, I'd put him back down on the 4th line and put Malone on RoR's wing in his place)

I don't think that's a reason to hate their fanbase - I'm a lot more mad at the Avs for not finding a way to get it done against the Oilers. Honestly if you saw the games from their perspective, where our guys play like complete **** and their young guys score at will, wouldn't you have a skewed perspective of these players too?

Honestly, if we had to lose, I'm glad it was like this. Hopefully the team wakes the **** up after this embarrassment. I also hope Roy realizes we won't be getting very far unless he improves this defense. Guenin playing 20+ minutes isn't going to work. Luckily we didn't lose much ground with this loss.

And how can the Oilers look like crap some nights then completely dominate in others. Have to give credit where credit is due. The Avs were terrible, but the Oilers were good.

Also, what the poster above me said. If the Avs play like this against the Oilers, can't blame their fans if they think our players are crap.

Everyone should be prepared for Guenin as EJ's partner tomorrow. With Hejda out, that's 4 right handed shots, and I can't see them putting anyone else there...

Not really because I would be too busy rubbing it in their faces'.

There is a billion reasons to hate their fanbase, most arrogant on HFBoards barnone.

I will literally vomit if I have to watch that.
I think we want Guenin to play with a quality defenseman to cover for his lack of puck skillz.

I honestly don't get why you even care. We're 19W-7L, we're going to put up a stinker every now and then, every team does. Even the Sharks got blown out earlier this season. The Oiler fans can be happy with what their team did tonight, doesn't change the fact that they are STILL 8 games under .500! Personally, I'll be very happy if the Oilers put together a bunch of wins so they can still miss the playoffs and pick 14th.

I can't wait until we play them again later this month, hopefully, this will still be fresh in all of their minds and we take it to them and play like we did against LA.

If EJ and Benoit are our top pair they need to play 60 minutes. Those other morons shouldn't even gear up. Sign the actor that played Fulton Reid and Averman, those guys can play. Actually, I am normally a center, but I'll bring my gear to the rink. May as well give it a shot.

Wish we could emergency call up Bigras for a couple games. Just to give him a couple game taste and get the Avs another LD for a bit.

If you're interested, Eakins made some great comments about Bordeleau in the post game:

I have a lot of respect for Patrick Bordeleau, I've coached against that kid in the American League and I have never ever seen him lose a fight. He's as tough as they come, and he's improved so, so much as a player. I've watched him develop over the years.

I'd say sign the fat knucklepuck guy, but the Jets already have him

Bender how would you feel if your wife decided to make love with your arch nemesis behind your back and when you found out, she said she would stop, but then again the next day you find both of them doing it on your Ferrari car? That is how I feel every time they beat us.

But yes I am happy that their season is basically done (no chance they make the playoffs with the West) and any winning streak they go on will screw up their lottery chances.
