I'm going to be without internet access for the next 5-10 days, so during this time I won't be able to update the stats.

I thought I could give thoughts on some German players who are listed out there:

I´d probably add to 1997 players defenseman Maximilian Glässl (Blues) and forward Julian Napravnik. Glässl is a big, quite mobile defenseman. He plays for Blues II U16. Napravnik was a top forward for Germany against Finland National Team. He scored two goals and looked quite good out there. He plays in Schüler-BL, but could be an intriguing player to watch.

And thanks for updating those stats regularly, Maverick41.

I am back and will start the updates soon. By next Monday (at latest) everything should be up to date.

I had already considered Napravnik, but so far I did not include players who hadn't played in the DNL or at the pro level.
Thanks a lot for the information about Glässl. Could you give me a little more information about the level his team is playing at? I take it they are not playing at the highest U16 level in Finland.

While I am updating this thread I will change a few things. I will remove several players and keep this thread strictly about the kids playing in North America and the 2013 NHL Draft eligible players in Germany.

I will make (a) new thread(s) for the younger players, and there I will definitely include Napravnik.

Glässl and his team actually does play at the highest level. Blues has two teams that both made it from qualification into the main league. There are particularly 1997 born players there, but also younger players. Some of the best prospects play against older guys, but I´ll say the best U16 teams are very good. [OT] In fact, the -97 age group is considered as one of the best in recent memory in Finland [OT]

Glässl has had so far two assists in three games. I´ll have at least one more chance to see Glässl playing within next few weeks.

Pretty sick numbers for Abeltshauser, I wonder why he's still playing in the QMJHL... Looks like he's ready for the next step.

Unfortunately he will miss the next 2-4 weeks with a broken bone in is hand or wrist.
So his numbers won't change for a while.

I guess there are numerous reasons.

a) He is missing Michael Catenacci with whom he had such great chemistry last season. These two fed of each other, and he has not found that same level of chemistry with any of the other guys.

b) They brought in Matt Puempel who seems to be the number one guy on the Kitchener offense right now.

c) This is not really a reason why his numbers so far haven't been impressive, but a reason why that will not change anytime soon, but his injury seems to be pretty bad and he will likely miss a lot of games.

Is Kühnhackl injured or why hasn't he played more games in the season so far?

A small request: If you're aware of an injury (like the one of Abeltshauser), it'd be great if you could put a small symbol next to the players name so that everyone knows what's going on.

Thanks for your work, I check this thread nearly daily! :)

Good idea, but since I don't seem to be incapable to use any symbols in my tables, for now I will just use different colours for the names of players that are injured or absent. I will update the post in the morning.

For example:
The names of injured players will be in red, and the names of the players who are not playing because of the WJC will be in blue.

As for Kühnhackl. The last I heard was, that he injured his shoulder, but I have no idea how long he will be out.

How big is Tim Bender s chance to get drafted this summer? Is there any sure fire draftee outside of Kahun ?

All I know who have realistic chances are:
Tiffels
Cüpper
Bender

As I am not following the German leagues that much with the exception of Mannheim are any other guys playing here have a chance?

I don't think there is any sure fire draftee at all from Germany in the 2013 draft.
Even Kahun could slip into a late round or completely off the board unless he continues to play the way he did so far. If he hits a slump like Rieder did in the second part of his first year in the OHL, then it could raise too many questions.
Although his exposure at the WJC should help his draft stock.

And that is one of the problems for Tim Bender. He does not play at the WJC, he does not play in a men's league, but only in German Juniors. At least so far, he may get a few games in the Oberliga for Bad Nauheim.
but all that will make it difficult for him to get drafted this year.

As far as Tiffels goes, he is in a similar situation as Kahun. And Cüpper was eligible last year and wasn't picked, and his numbers are not impressive, since he ist playing on a terrible team. So I don't think there is much chance he gets picked this year.
I mean even Niederberger who played awsome last season was not picked in his second year of eligibility.

Other candidates playing in Germany are forwards Markus Eisenschmid, Kevin Orendorz and Dennis Shevyrin as well as defenseman Andreas Schwarz.
However these guys are far from a lock for the draft and have at best an outside chance, to be drafted at all.

tiffels is a given IMO. 3rd to 5th round and worth it. he's great and many scouts notice him at the WJC from what i hear. playing in the USHL will help him too. his stats are fine for a young rookie.

i don't think he's comparable to the cüpper situation, simply because cüpper is just not that good. i don't like his style and he might be the worst WJC starter for germany the past years.

bender and kahun are the only other players who i think have a chance, but as mentioned, they have to play exceptional well the next months.

eisenschmid i like, but i think the scouts will notice him as soon as he's in NA which he seems to plan for next season. he's a skilled kid.

A few random notes about the players on this list.

  • Alll the CHL players are back now and some have already played their first games
  • Grubauer and Noebels are now in the AHL (Noebels had been called up even before the lockout ended)
  • Holzer is playing with a broken foot, and seems to remain in the AHL for now
  • Kühnhackl is still out indefinitely with a busted shoulder.

Maybe, although when I look at the forwards on that Whalers team, I don't think he will be seeing too much icetime and play probably more in a grinder position.
So I don't think his stats will be improving much. Which is a little sad, because especially after seeing him at the WJC I think he could be more than "just" a role player in the OHL. But whon knows, maybe, as you said, this change of scenery will help him and really get him going.

Yep, he's a good kid with good hockey bloodlines.

It's good to see that he'll be playing somewhere where he can contribute with his big body and hard work. He's not the easiest guy to play against and he's still a work in progress, but he does know how to take on responsibility (he was just chewed up about taking that OT penalty against Slovakia that ended up costing Germany the game) and should be an IDEAL third liner for a team looking to make a playoff run.

I'm gathering that some NHL team is going to at least invite him to one of their prospect camps, if not flatout offer him an AHL/ECHL two-way contract after the season.

Notes:
  • In his first game after the WJC, Marvin Cüpper recorded a shutout stopping all 32 shots.
  • Marcel Noebels scored his first goal in the AHL in his 4th AHL game.
  • Contrary to what I wrote earlier, Korbinian Holzer has now left for the Maple Leafs training camp.
  • In his 25th game Frederik Tiffels has finally scored his first USHL goal.
  • Tom Kühnhackl is still out indefinitely with a busted shoulder.
  • Dominik Kahun scored the lone goal in the shootout of last night's win of the Sudbury Wolves.
  • Jan Obernesser is either sick/hurt or he has lost his backup job in Sioux Falls.
  • After his trade to the Plymouth Whalers, Sebastian Uvira will probably play his first game for his new team on Friday 18th.

I'm gathering that some NHL team is going to at least invite him to one of their prospect camps, if not flatout offer him an AHL/ECHL two-way contract after the season.

his combination of skill and grit is pretty interesting indeed and i really hope he gets a chance to prove himself in the AHL or maybe ECHL at first. but he needs to stay healthy for a longer period first. his style is not only damaging to his opponents unfortunately.

Once again, thank you very much for this thread! :) The last post with the additional infos was even better - do you plan on doing this more often now? Would be :yo: ;)
