Once again, thank you very much for this thread! :) The last post with the additional infos was even better - do you plan on doing this more often now? Would be :yo: ;)

Thanks. Great username by the way. (Though I might be biased since that is my first name) :D ;)

I'll try to add anything noteworthy I hear about recent perfomances of the players or their situation with their clubs in this "Notes-Area" below the statistics. Whether I can update these notes regularly depends on how busy I am, so sometimes it might not be as up-to-date as the stats but I'll do my best.

Notes:
  • Leon Draisaitl had 3 assists in Prince Albert's 3-2 win over Brandon on Friday.
  • Mathias Niederberger had a busy night against Kitchener tonight he made 58 saves on 61 shots as Barrie beat the Rangers 6-3. One of the Kitchener goals was scored by Tobias Rieder on the PP.
  • In his 3rd game for Plymouth Sebastian Uvira was a goal shy of a Gordie Howe Hattrick. He had an assist and got into a fight. He seems to be quite happy in Plymouth so far, judging by his postgame comments.

Haha, thanks man! :)

  • Dominik Kahun and Frederik Tiffels were not listed on the CSS midterm rankings.

I'm a bit confused by this, I thought that both players played really well at the U20 championships and their statistics in the junior leagues are not bad either. Especially Tiffels is getting a lot of credit for his hard playing style with blocking shots etc.
What do you think happened that both players were not mentioned in the rankings?

  • Philip Grubauer had his 3rd start for the Hershey Bears and for the third time the game went to OT, and for the second time to the shootout. He stopped 4 out of 5 shooters and Hershey won the game.

This guy gets better and better! I hope that he'll get his first appearance in the NHL very soon although WSH is pretty stacked with goaltenders...

Hi Guys,

Can someone tell me why Dominik Kahun is not listed on midterm rankings?

He has ok numbers for a rookie, and put up better numbers than Draisaitl on the same team in the Schuler BL. I know he is a year older, but still?

I would love to hear more about his style of play? He could be a gem of a late rounder:)

I think size may be an issue for Kahun, he's listed as 5'9"

Well basically he is like 4 months older, but it's a different draft year. ;)

I think Imaginary Threats already pointed out the biggest reason, his size, but then again sometimes size is not really that big an issue if the player is skilled, smart and tough enough.
I think Dominik is very skilled, but from what I've heard he often hangs on to the puck a little too long, especially in traffic. And while he can manage the resulting hits and even escape the traffic with the puck at the junior level, there could be some concern that his style of play will not transfer well to the pro level.

But it is still a long time to the draft, and if he keeps playing well, I am pretty sure some team will take a gamble on him in a late round.

Sorry about the lack of updates lately, but I spent the last few days in the hospital and had no internet access.

I just got back home and I will need a little time to settle back in, and then I should be able to make an update either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Notes:
  • In his second game after the injury Tobias Rieder returned to form and had 1 goal and 1 assist, both on the power play.
  • Mathias Niederberger had his third shutout of the season as he stopped all 44 shots against Guelph.
  • Konrad Abeltshauser and the Halifax Mooseheads celebrated yet another blowout win (11-3 over the Titans). Konrad had 3 assists in that game.
  • Philipp Grubauer made 40 saves against Adirondack for his first AHL shutout. He followed that up with a statistically bad game, giving up 6 goals on 30 shots.
  • Over the weekend I will re-check all the numbers. So far I have corrected mistakes in Niederberger's (save pct. was too low) and Draisaitl's (one too many assists) stats.

looks like you missed that we have a new german in the USHL: ;)

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=43940

and why ever you were in hospital, i hope you get well soon.

You're absolutely right, I had not realized that Laub went to the USHL.
I noticed recently that he wasn't playing in the DNL or for Bad Nauheim anymore, but I just assumed he was injured or something. I must have missed any articles about his move completely. So thanks for the information, I will add him to the list right away.

Thank you for the well wishes. I am feeling well right now, though a littel fatigued. But the doctors are worried that it mght be something chronic, so I have to get some follow up examinations done over the next couple of months, and then I will know where I am at.

  • Philipp Grubauer played in his first NHL game against the Flyers. He came in late in the 2nd period in relieve of Braden Holtby when the score was 0-4. He then stopped all 14 shots on his goal. The game ended 1-4.

Well, Grubauer has been great in the AHL so far and he now got his first NHL minutes under his belt. There is however a tough competition for goalies in Washington. He has to establish himself in the AHL and collect lots of ice time there before he gets a proper shot at the NHL. But I think he certainly has the potential.

Abeltshauser is dong really well in juniors, but we will have to wait and see how he cope with the transition from junior to pros once he plays in the AHL.

Rieder surely has the talent to make in the NHL, but the Oilers Roster is stuffed with great young players. Im quite confident though that he wont have much trouble to adapt to the AHL. He should also be a steady goal scorer there.

A while ago I thought that Kuehnhackl will definitely play in the NHL one day. But injuries have cost him the past couple of years. He needs to stay healthy and have a breakout season in the AHL next year to remain on the Penguins Radar.

Draisaitl is obviously a long way from playing in the NHL, but once he is eligable for the Draft, he can potentially be picked in the 1st or 2nd round. So if he stays healthy and keeps developing at the pace he does at the moment, he as great chances to make it to the NHL.

Niederbergers numbers do also look great, so we should keep an eye on him.

I agree, whether or not he can be a starter remains to be seen, but he has the potential and from what I have heard he certainly has the work ethic to make it to NHL at least as a backup.

Abeltshauser is dong really well in juniors, but we will have to wait and see how he cope with the transition from junior to pros once he plays in the AHL.

The good thing about him is, that he is a big guy who skates very well, the problem could be that for a big guy he is not all that physical. If he works on that in the AHL for a couple of years he schould get a shot in the NHL

Rieder surely has the talent to make in the NHL, but the Oilers Roster is stuffed with great young players. Im quite confident though that he wont have much trouble to adapt to the AHL. He should also be a steady goal scorer there.

Rieder to me is a bit of a hit or miss kinda deal. He has the potential to make it as top 6 player even in the NHL, but he will have to adapt to the more physical game.
A plus for him could be that, at the request of the Oilers, he has been playing at center for a while, a position where he has less competition in the Oilers organisation.

A while ago I thought that Kuehnhackl will definitely play in the NHL one day. But injuries have cost him the past couple of years. He needs to stay healthy and have a breakout season in the AHL next year to remain on the Penguins Radar.

Kühnhackl starts to feel a little like the Sebastian Deisler of German hockey. He has the tools, he has the skill, but at this point he appears to be too fragile.

Draisaitl is obviously a long way from playing in the NHL, but once he is eligable for the Draft, he can potentially be picked in the 1st or 2nd round. So if he stays healthy and keeps developing at the pace he does at the moment, he as great chances to make it to the NHL.

I don't think he is that far away. This guy is probably as close to making the NHL as Rieder, maybe one year behind him. Draisaitl is an exceptional talent and not only for a German. He has the body, he has the skills, his skating seems to come along nicely and his game seems well suited for the pros.

Niederbergers numbers do also look great, so we should keep an eye on him.

Everybody is picking on his size, but he is so damn fast and athletic. I don't actually think he will make it to the NHL, but not because of a lack of talent, more due to a lack of opportunity. But I am sure he will become one of the better German goaltenders. And we have some good ones.

I also think Marcel Noebels has a decent chance to make the NHL as a big third line winger who can provide some secondary scoring. On a bad team he could play in the top 6 and show off his goal scoring prowess.

With the rest of the CHL guys it is hard to tell. Frederik Tiffels will be going the NCAA route and that is really hard to predict. From his game I think he could be a servicable bottom 6 player, but more likely I see him returning to Europe after he finishes is NCAA stint.
Kahun has enough skill to make it to the NHL, but we will have to wait and see if he has the toughness to compensate for his lack of size. I expect a big step forward from him next year.
I don't think Laub, Latta or Cüpper have a realistic shot to make it, but Uvira might have a chance. The trade to Plymouth really helped him a lot, and he has a good chance of being signed at least by an AHL team after this season, and maybe work his way up from there. I think he has been very underrated for long time.

Thanks a lot!
So it looks like there could be a few guys who can replace "older" Germans like Sturm (who is already back in Manheim) or Hecht, that's great to see!

Noebels has a good shot to. His numbers are very good for a rookie, and I read in a couple places that he is a candidate for call-ups, when injuries arise.
