Cause the players are responsible for the power play. If you've got 5 guys playing pass around the umbrella with no one willing to force the play, you could have Jesus himself coaching the PP and it wouldnt make a difference.

Everyone knows Jesus was a goalie coach.

As far as doing the best he can with what he had. BOGUS!
Look at the teams who had a better powerplay than the bruins in 12/13, 11/12, 10/11. a lot of those teams did NOT have a better offensive talent group than the bruins.

There is a God!

Really looking forward to seeing what all our talent can do on an actual PP... If Oates doesn't get a HC job, by all means, get him here. It's too bad Savvy can't retire, he knows this group and he knows how to run a PP as well as anyone in the world.

I think he's only owed 2.5 million over the next three years. Hasn't Chris Pronger been doing scouting, or some sort of player development, for the Flyers (and he's signed through 16-17, too)?

I'm just curious as to what the actual rule is for those players - and team involvement.

Good **** off you were horrible. One of the moves Chiarelli should have made 2 years ago was dumping Ward.

This is a win-win for everyone- he gets a head coaching job and the Bruins get rid of a mediocre pp coach.

Good luck to him.

Well I said that so I guess I should clarify?

The B's have some solid offensive talent. No doubt about it. They had guys like Chara, Seguin, Krejci, Bergeron, etc. etc. etc. Are any of those guys power play force the issue type guys though? No. Seguin and Marchand are great on the rush, Bergeron plays the point pretty decently, Horton and Lucic don't have any form of one timer at all....and the defensive group didn't have a soul that could push the play

Once they added Krug, Soderberg, and Smith, they had guys who were willing to do more than just play a game of pass to Chara. Smith was willing to cut back door, Soderberg was willing to take the puck to the goal line (a place that Krejci should be going on the PP)

The importance of coaching on a power play is completely 150% overstated here....but I get it. We need someone to blame.

But think about how much sense it makes....Did Geoff Ward's coaching ability fluctuate from year to year? Is he to blame for coaching the a top 5 power play in 08-09? In 09-10 the power play was something like 25% with Savvy and 12% without or something ridiculous...is that because of Geoff Ward? This year we had the third best PP in the league, is that because of Geoff Ward?

If I had to split the pie, I would say 95% players, 5% coaching....but he's an easy scape goat for a lazy argument, so that's why his name comes up first....it's like listening to talk radio.

Yes, he is, I'm not sure about actual coaching though.

I suppose it's possible but Savvy is a coach for his sons team and seems really happy, recently had another kid. Not sure how all the travel and stress would affect him. I just want him to be happy after all he went through, pipe dream at best. Would just love him there for sentimental reasons and because he was magic on the PP.

I could totally see Savvy being frustrated as hell

"Alright guys, just set up on the half boards and you'll see a seam that no one else sees"

"Marc...the passing lanes are clogged"

"THE PASSING LANES ARE NEVER CLOGGED"

Guy was truly a magician.

The TSN article's picture is hilarious, looks like Claude is showing Ward where the door is....

Yeah, as good as he was and as much as it would be awesome if he worked with the Bruins in some way, it doesn't guarantee he'd make a good coach.

I don't think it'll be either Oates or Savvy... I wonder if this'll be the end of the umbrella setup? Whoever they bring in should run the whole 2 minute PP through Dougie :yo:

Exactly.

Also, Ward didn't just coach the PP. Hockey isn't football, with 8,000 coaches (Fourth-down defensive end coach Joe Smith). Ward wasn't just responsible for the PP; he coached the forwards (as Doug Houda coaches the defensemen), and from all accounts did a good job at it. Best of luck to him in Germany.

I think we can upgrade here, I was never too impressed with Ward's credentials but he ended up doing an OK job, but there are definetly better guys out there. It's up to Bruins management to find that guy and hope he's a good fit with CJ.

Can't wait til HF fires the next PP coach too. Since Ward did such a horrific job, what do we expect from the next guy.. 30%? 35? :amazed:
