They came into a cancerous organization run by some of the most incompetent management in NHL history.
They were engrained in a losing culture with no standards or accountability while simultaneously being told they were the most super special Calder finalists ever. And turned into a cliquey boy band with loser attitudes and bad habits on and off the ice.
And in Boeser’s case, injuries obviously didn’t help. But his wrist problems aren’t causing him to not be able to move his feet and compete.
Really? Caman.
In Boeser's case, yeah. Injuries have f***ed him up.
But being a bottom of the barrel team going nowhere fast is going to grate on you. I don't care how many millions of dollars you're using to dry your eyes.
The problem is that this is the EA NHL conundrum. You assemble a number of pieces together and
on paper, everything looks great. Like going GM mode and just building a team however you like.
Unfortunately, that's not how it works in the real world.
We also have the double whammy of people who have fully drunk the Benning Kool Aid and bought into guys like Podkolzin being on the precipice of being a superstar and following it up with comments like 'as constructed, this team is a playoff contender.' (lofl)
This team is a mishmash. It's clear the hope is that Demko would basically be able to stand on his head --
again -- and we'd be able to rattle off some wins with a free and loose system.
But our D is a mix of injured/aging/smallish/not really solid in their own end and expecting Thatcher to save the day every goddamned night is gonna also be draining.
At least with the early Luongo-era Canucks there was the idea of at least giving Luongo some help by getting "defensive defensemen" and playing a conservative game. Here? There isn't anything, really.
Management have really done none of these guys any favors. It's very familiar with the ABC-era Blackhawks, imo (although there were bigger issues going on there on the ownership side, with Dollar Bill Wirtz.)
