A generational goalie just isn't that important.

There's a reason just about every other top talent from this generation has a Cup and he doesn't.

Their teams didn't give away 1st round picks for years on end, sign dinosaurs as UFA's, let a top pairing RD walk for nothing, hire a coach without a defensive system, etc...?

Which one?

Those "top talent" guys who won Cups all played on better teams that were built more intelligently.

To an extent, you're not wrong and our front office has absolutely wasted Lundqvist, but the 2015 Hawks and 2017 Penguins pretty much won the Cup because they can play superstars for 40 minutes. Those teams were built pretty poorly.

Trouba has his arbitration hearing. In the past five years, 124 players have applied for arbitration and just five rulings have been made. A couple have had their hearing but settled before the ruling.

Gorton had extensive talks with Chevy about Trouba two years ago.

We know Chevy liked Spooner from Boston. Brett Howden is a Winnipeg kid.

Trouba will get paid. He has obviously soured after how Chevy threated him two years ago and now he have a jack pot scenario within sight. Would we be interested in Trouba if Chevy decides to cut ties with him? We need size at RD. It’s so hard to find. I would love to get a bit more established D. The young forwards we get need support from a functioning blueline. You can’t have a young forward crew capable of taking the next step and then you decide to start to build a blueline. Keith and Seabrook were older than Toews and Kane. It’s often like that. OTOH Trouba will get paid a ton...

Hayes and TDA/Pionk?

Spooner, Howden and TDA/Pionk?

Agree - those teams each had 3-4 players that were better than any of our (non goalie) players. But, that's not one Ovechkin away from winning a Cup, it's 3-4 Ovechkins away. I don't think the 2014-15 would've won a Cup with Talbot and Ovie. 14 games in those playoffs were decided by a single goal and Talbot had played a grand total of two playoff games going into that post season.

Our team(s) were simply not good enough and injuries played a pretty big part in a few of those runs. I think the team had the "heart" and maybe could've got it done a couple of those years despite the talent gap but injuries sank that ship. They would've needed to get there healthy and that seemed to never happen.

Not gonna get into a package discussion, but have numbers been reported from his arbitration? What would it take to keep him for long term, $7.5M?

It isn't that important... anymore.

Hasn't been that way his whole career.

Not a comment on him having a cup or not, just saying. Having him in 2007 was more valuable than having him now, even if he was the same goalie now as he was then.

It's simple really. The goalie, by definition, can only impact one aspect of the game. Yes, it's a critical aspect, but it's better if your top players skate out.

He wasn't really Hank yet in 2007.

The rangers didn't fail to win a cup because Henrik was our best player or what not...we failed because we didn't put enough talent around him to win a cup and during his tenure made some of the worst free agent signings in recent memory to be the missing pieces. Anyone remember Drury? Gomez? Redden? Richards? None of those guys were worth a fraction of their contracts the way Henrik earned his.then signing guys like staal and girardi over stralman and yandle.

Henrik lundqvist isn't the reason we don't have a cup. Henrik lundqvist is the reason Glen sather still has a job.

Making horrendous ufa signings while trading away draft picks like they were candy. It's amazing we didn't have 10 straight years.of being a bottom 10 team. Henrik has given me some of the beat hockey watching years of my life...it's been a privilege to watch this man nearly aingle handedly drag a mediocre team deep into the playoffs year after year.

I think Gomez time here is a bit misrepresented. He fell off after we traded him. He scored 70 points his first year and was second on the team after Jagr.

Same with Drury...everyone vilifies him but his stats before he got hurt were comparable to his previous years (when he had better players around him).

Peter Holland would make sense to help Wolfpack make the playoffs, but would not make any sense if he plays for the Rangers this season.

Troubahas always been on the NYR radar but he brings some luggage

Didn't know he was always on NYR's radar.... Good to know there could be a move to make here. Rangers might finally have some assets. Did Trouba get top pairing minutes last year?

Is the drama with his girlfriend/significant other? Or are there other factors?

**** man

Because we may have a lot of rookies in the line up. If they are not ready, we need bodies to play instead. It is quite simple really.
