Frustration

*** Typing up this writeup, when randomly out of the blue, my chrome browser says "Aw Snap, we couldn't find what you were looking for" and just like that a writeup that took 3 hours was gone. Stupid things like that is what makes me lose interest in things. Anyways, here's a quick recap of what I had typed, although it's nothing like the writeup I had written.***

BREAKING NEWS: Francis and Bettman prepare for joint Press Conference
June 11th, 2018
Just weeks ago, plans for Seattle Expansion fell apart on the NHL. Immediately, Gary Bettman promised a solution to the fans thirst for Expansion. Critics were skeptical, how could the NHL find a solution so soon. Now, we may have an answer. Gary Bettman is in Hartford and has been seen with Hall of Famer Ron Francis. Could Hartford be the NHL's next Franchise? It sure seems so. Let's tune into the Press Conference now:

Bettman: Welcome reporters, fans, and everyone tuning in on television to see this. Just like you fans, we were very disappointed when Seattle was forced to withdraw from Expansion due to unforeseen circumstances. That being said, I think this solution is going to make everyone very happy. Now let's get on with it. I'm very pleased to announce that the NHL will be granted a 32nd team to the Hartford Whalers for the upcoming season. And without further ado, the man who made it happen, Ron Francis!

Francis: The moment I found out about this opportunity to bring the Whalers back to Hartford, I just knew I had to do it. I had some great years in Hartford, and I know you fans loved the team. So, I gave Gary a call and inquired about buying a franchise and everything was pretty smooth sailing from there. This is a fresh start for us. Speaking of fresh, I'm going to turn it over to the first GM of the Hartford Whalers, Brant King.

King: Thank's Ron. When Ron gave me a call saying he wanted a fresh face to match the idea of a clean slate, I was shocked. I wasn't expecting it. But, how could I say no. It's an honor to be pegged as the man to be at the helm of this operation here in Hartford, and I can't wait to get going. In just a week, the protected lists will be finalized and we will select our team, then we have a resign period followed by Free Agency. After that, we begin our season in October. We're going to be joining the Atlantic Division, while Detroit is going to shift over into the Central. Thank you all, and we'll be speaking soon

BREAKING NEWS: Whalers win Season Opener over Oilers 3-2
Oct. 12th, 2018
Down 2-0 after their first period back in the League, Hartford was looking like the typical Expansion team. But two 2nd period goals by Andrew Cogliano and Frans Nielsen set the stage for Marcus Foligno's go-ahead-goal in the 3rd to put the Whalers up 3-2. That was a lead they'd hold until the clock hit 0.0.

Cory Schneider made 31 saves in the victory. Cue the Brass Bonanza!

BREAKING NEWS: Back-to-Back wins cap off first Month for the Whalers
Oct. 31st, 2018
After surrenderign 4 or more goals in 3 of their past 5 games, the defensive pairings were changed and the Hartford Whalers seemed to respond well. 2-1 and 3-1 wins over Anaheim and Buffalo on back-to-back nights improved the teams record to 5-4-1. Still early in the season, but their record is good enough for the 2nd WC spot and 4th in the Atlantic Division.

BREAKING NEWS: Old rivalry revived in feisty win for Hartford
Nov. 18th, 2018
Before Hartford relocated to Carolina and became the Hurricanes, their most fierce rival was the Boston Bruins. If you weren't sure if that would carry over to this edition of the Whalers, well now you are. In a hard-fought 2-0 win for the Whalers, there was 57 combined penalty minutes.

Brock McGinn scored the go ahead goal early in the third period after the Whalers killed off 2 consecutive penalties, and Frans Nielsen added the empty netter to seal the deal.

Cory Schnieder had 32 saves in his first shutout of the season.

BREAKING NEWS: Hartford falls 3-1 in first ever Whalers-Canes matchup
Dec. 9th, 2018
Despite not being in the same Division, the Whalers and Hurricanes instantaneously Hartford re-entered the NHL. That is, because, Carolina "stole" the original Whalers out of Hartford when the League decided to relocate them.

Hartford was outshot 33-24 in the game and their only goal came from Marko Dano.

The teams face off once more this season on February 20th, just 1 week prior to the NHL Trading Deadline.

BREAKING NEWS: Whalers ink Rattie to 4-year Extension
Jan. 4th, 2019
The Hartford Whalers leading scorer Ty Rattie has signed a 4-year deal to remain with the team. The 25-year old currently has 10 goal and 16 assists for 26 points, all numbers that shatter his previous career highs. Here's the catch: he's juts 38 games into this season. GM Brant King seems to have done some swift work, as the deal comes in at a total of $10.000M ($2.250M AAV). Here's what he had to say on TSN about it:

Honestly, I'm as shocked as some of youguys are. Ty has been incredible for us this season, and we knew he had this in him when we got him from the Oilers. We talked about many different options, like shorter term with a higher salary, but Ty's 25 now, so he went for the security. We're glad to have him around for another 4 years, and hopefully more.

TSN Says:

Strong play from both goalies has been a key to the Hartford Whalers ability to stay in the Playoff hunt halfway through their inaugural season. It hurts their chance at getting a top end talent, but the experience of making the Playoffs would be invaluable to the young players and overall team morale.

TSN Says:

Brenden Dillon has been disappointing, but other than that the defense of the Whalers has given GMBK and owner Ron Francis nothing to complain about. Jason Demers has been the best of the bunch, on pace for his highest points total since 13-14. Slater Koekkoek is young and will be part of the future, but you wonder where King's head will be at with Mark Pysyk, on an expiring contract

TSN Says:

The Whalers have 6 20-point scorers, significant production for an Expansion team. It comes from veterans like Nielsen, Steen and Ryan; their MVP so far Ty Rattie, and redmption stories in Duclair and Spooner. Their 4th line of Foligno with any combination of Gaunce/Lazar/Dano has been an advantage league wide as efficiency as a 4th unit has been unparalleled throughout the NHL. Brock McGinn and Colton Sissons, both on pace for their first 20-goal season, have been very impressive. Perhaps, the lone disappointment up front for the Whalers has been Andrew Cogliano, with just 10 points in 41 games while consistently getting top-9 ice time.

In other news, with Colton Sissons and Marko Dano both being lost to injuries during the final game of the "first half" of the season, Dale Weise has been recalled from the AHL.

In the minors, prospects Philippe Myers and Nikita Scherbak are enjoying very successful seasons with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs of the AHL. With 33 points in 40 games, Scherbak is 2nd on the team in scoring behind Tomas Hyka (39 PTS). Meanwhile Myers already has tied his career high of 21 points, doing so in just 40 games, while being a +17 and averaging 26:04 minutes per game.

Phoenix Copley has a .914 SV% with 3 SO and a record of 20-4-4.

BREAKING NEWS: Hartford takes 2-0 lead in Season Series with 4-1 win over Bruins
Jan. 30th, 2019
Cory Schneider was the hero in Hartford as he made 38 saves, 18 of which came in a lopsided first period where the Whalers were outshot 18-8, en route to an exciting win. Colton Sissons had his best game since returning to the lineup with 2 goals and 3 points in the victory.

The win was an important one for Hartford as they'd gone just 2-4-1 in their last 7 games to kick off the second half of their season.

BREAKING NEWS: Dillon goes back to Dallas for Robertson, Heatherington, pick
Feb. 20th, 2019
Just a week before the Trade Deadline, the Hartford Whalers pulled the trigger on a trade sending pending UFA D Brenden Dillon to the Dallas Stars for prospect Jason Robertson, defenseman Dillon Heatherington and a 4th round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

Brenden Dillon, 28, rejoins the Stars who he began his NHL career with as they push to make the Playoffs. The Stars currently have 65 points (32-24-3) and sit 6th in the Central, 4 points out of a Playoff Spot.

Meanwhile, Hartford is in a similar situation. They currently sit 6th in the Atlantic, also 4 points out of a Playoff Spot. As an Expansion Franchise, the fact they sit in the picture is impressive enough, but it seems as though GM Brant King is going to play it safe and trade off assets that haven't fit.

Was doing a franchise mode with Columbus traded both Panarin and Bobrovsky in year 1. In year 7 I make it to game 7 of the conference final I intervened the SIM to find for that game, the game glitched and gave me a phantom Artemi Panarin for game 7. Unfortunetly now the game freezes when I try and super sim again :(

(warning filmed on my phone so cringe quality)

I love the vid, you're so angry (as you should be).

NHL 19 - Franchise Mode - Vancouver Canucks - 2021/2022 Season

April 24, 2022

The Vancouver Canucks will move on to the second round of the NHL playoffs as they defeated the St. Louis Blues 2-1 in nail-biting game 7 double overtime last night. Emanuel Jovanovski scored both goals for the Canucks and Jordan Kyrou scored the Blues' lone goal, which tied the game late in the 3rd period. The Canucks will play the Los Angeles Kings in the next round.

May 8, 2022

In yet another thrilling game 7 overtime, the Vancouver Canucks managed to come out on top, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 to move on to the Western Conference finals against the Winnipeg Jets. Brock Boeser scored the game-tying goal and the overtime winner and goaltender Thatcher Demko posted shutouts in game 2 and in game 6.

May 20, 2022

The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Vancouver Canucks in game 6 last night to advance to the Stanley Cup finals. The Canucks fell behind early in the series by getting shut out 4-0 in the first two games, both at Rogers Arena. The Canucks rallied to take both games in Winnipeg to tie the series, but Winnipeg proved too strong for the young Canucks.

May 30, 2022

The Buffalo Sabres have won the first Stanley Cup in franchise history, defeating the Winnipeg Jets in 5 games. Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukonen was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy as the most valuable player of the Stanley Cup playoffs, posting a 16-6 record with 3 shutouts, a 0.942 Sv%, and a 1.75 GAA.

Quick question centering on realism. Do any of you all prefer to start a Franchise mode after the trade deadline has come and gone and most of those transactions have been completed? Does it even matter? I typically prefer to keep the rosters as current as possible before I start the mode and take it from there on my end, regardless of what the AI decides to pull off during the mode. Just curious what the responses will be, if any.

Any idea what Can I do to have Poehling and Cale fleury with the habs? also, where is Romanov ?

I know the NCAA doesnt want his Athlete in games but it really sucks to lose a top elite prospect like this.

Also, I traded for Frost and Myers, both have top 4 or top 6 potential. How can I make them develop the right way into 85+ overall ? same for Suzuki and Brook.

also, where is Romanov ?

NHL 19 - Franchise Mode - Vancouver Canucks - 2022 Offseason

June 15, 2022

The annual NHL awards were held in Las Vegas, Nevada yesterday evening and the Stanley Cup champion Buffalo Sabres were well-represented in the winners column.

Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukonen added the Vezina trophy as the league's top goaltender in addition to the Conn Smythe trophy he was awarded at the conclusion of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Artemi Panarin won his first Hart trophy as the league's most valuable player and Rasmus Ristolainen won his first Norris trophy as the league's top defenseman.

Flyers forward Claude Giroux won his first NHL award, taking home the Art Ross trophy and Jets forward Patrik Laine won his first Maurice Richard trophy of what some expect will be several as the league's leading goal scorer.

Arizona's Ville Nurminen, a 2nd round pick in 2019, took home the Calder trophy as the league's top rookie with an impressive 32-goal, 67-point performance.

Vancouver's Elias Pettersson took home the Ted Lindsay award as the league's most outstanding player. The Canucks forward is the 3rd Canuck in the past 4 seasons to win the award, joining Brock Boeser and Bo Horvat. Pettersson and Boeser were amongst the league leaders in scoring through most of the year despite injuries to all 3 top line forwards. Pettersson finished with 76 points in 79 games.

Boston's Patrice Bergeron added yet another Selke trophy to his trophy cabinet. This year marks the sixth time Bergeron has won the Selke, the most ever since the award was introduced in 1978. Bergeron surpassed Hockey Hall of Famer Bob Gainey in 2019 with his fifth Selke win and will likely go down as the best defensive forward in NHL history.

The annual NHL retirements were announced yesterday, headlined by defensemen Zdeno Chara.

The 45-year-old, 6'9" Chara set an NHL record for most games played by a defenseman this season, surpassing Chris Chelios and finishing with 1718 games played. Chara captained the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup finals three times, winning the Stanley Cup in 2011. Chara finished his career with 688 points, which ranks 28th all-time amongst defensemen.

Brent Burns is one of the few defensemen to best Chara in career points, finishing with 745, good for 21st all-time, although teammate Erik Karlsson, who has 710 career points, may pass him. Burns is also well-known for his wild facial hair and Chewbacca-like appearance.

"Mr. Game 7" Justin Williams wraps up a career filled with postseason success. Williams won three Stanley Cups along with a Conn Smythe trophy along with NHL records for goals and points in game 7s with 7 goals, 14 points in 8 game 7 playoff games.

Other notables include Dustin Brown, the Los Angeles Kings' captain who won 2 Stanley Cups, Brent Seabrook, who won 3 Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks, and Chris Kunitz, the undrafted forward who won 4 Stanley Cups with Anaheim and Pittsburgh.

The Detroit Red Wings kicked off the NHL Entry Draft by selecting the consensus #1 Kevin Gormley with the first overall selection. The 5'10" 179 lbs winger scored 109 points in the USHL in his draft year and is expected to be a boon to Detroit's offense moving forward.

The Ottawa Senators selected Sault Ste. Marie defenseman Steve Yandle with the second overall pick and the Florida Panthers selected Latvian centre Pavel Jekimovs from the KHL with the third overall pick.

Vancouver chose another winger with the 28th selection, opting to take American Jeffrey McFarland of the USHL. All seven selections made by the Canucks were from North America, with two from the USHL, three from the WHL, and two from the QMJHL.

The draft saw 5 trades, all involving draft picks, starting with the Winnipeg Jets trading the 30th overall pick to Dallas for the 44th overall pick and a 2023 3rd. The Jets then flipped the 44th overall pick to Nashville in exchange for the 51st overall pick and a 2023 5th. That trade was the first of 3 trades made by Nashville to move up in the draft, acquiring the 44th, 71st, and 128th picks in exchange for the 51st, 82nd, 113th, 144th, 2023 5th, and 2023 7th picks. Nashville also had four 1st round picks thanks to trades made near the trade deadline earlier this season, making for one eventful draft.

The Vancouver Canucks re-signed star winger and restricted free agent Brock Boeser to a 5-year, $34.875M contract extension this week, securing a key cog to the organization's offense. The 25-year-old scored at a near point-per-game pace last season, scoring 70 points in 73 games, helping lead the Canucks to their first playoff appearance since 2015.

The Canucks parted ways with AHL veterans Darren Archibald, Jay Beagle, Mitch Eliot, Kristoffer Gunnarsson, Anders Nilsson, and Tim Schaller.

Dallas Stars management was informed by John Klingberg's agent that the star defenseman will test free agency and likely headline this year's free agency class.

July 2, 2019

For the second year in a row, the New York Islanders landed one of the biggest free agents, this time signing star defender John Klingberg on a 7-year contract worth just north of $51M. The 30-year-old Swede is coming off a 10-goal, 43-point season after an injury-plagued 2020-2021 campaign in which he played just 34 games.

26-year-old Ivan Barbashev signed the second richest contract of the day, inking a 6-year, $28M contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Barbashev scored career highs in goals and points last season with 14 goals and 36 points for the Blues, but the Penguins believe he has more to give despite what critics may say. The Penguins are also in desperate need of help at centre in the future as Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin enter their late-30s.

Victor Rask signed with the Vegas Golden Knights for 4 years with an AAV of $5.145M after a 20-goal, 46-point effort and will likely slot in as the 3rd line centre behind William Karlsson and Cody Glass.

Former Canucks goaltenders Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo each signed 1-year deals with new teams. Schneider signed with his hometown Boston Bruins on a $5.045M deal while 43-year-old Roberto Luongo signed a $1.635M contract with the Philadelphia Flyers and will likely back up Carter Hart.

Tomorrow marks the first day of NHL training camps as players fly in from all over the world to cities new and old.

The New York Islanders continued to make big moves in the summer, pulling the trigger on a trade in late-July to acquire Kevin Shattenkirk, Max Pacioretty, and Charles Hudon from Vegas in exchange for 2021 1st round picks Kyle Crnkovic and Landon Versi.

Defenseman Slater Koekkoek also found himself traded twice this summer, first from Carolina to Los Angeles and then to Dallas.

The game is too easy. I went 12-1-1 in my first 14 games on all star with NY Rangers. I scored +5 goals and let in 1-2 goals per game.

I changed to superstar and still won a lot.

But the worst part is the re-signing, or lack of re-signing I should say. So many players hit UFA or RFA's don't get extended.

I win every offersheet due to this. It's so bad that I sometimes try to trade for players with high caphits with 1-2 years left so this won't happen. They'll re-sign some mediocre players and leave unbelievably good players sitting out a whole season.

I modify players and prospects on my own. I just picked up (by offersheet, after one season) 88 overall Brayden Point. 5 years, $8M per year. There's no way in hell Tampa would let that happen irl. They'd trade Miller, Gourde, Killorn etc before letting that happen.

When the season started Point was at 90 overall. Last time I checked I had 18 points in 14 games with him, that was on all star difficulty. I played those games btw, didn't simulate.

Also every team gets to caphell after 1 season, it sucks..

What to do? Turn off the cap?

The only thing you can do to stop big names going to free agency is to edit your roster before starting the franchise & extend those players with their original teams.

I usually do this, and shut off trades for the first couple of seasons; this gives you a little bit of a higher difficulty curve in that you can't gather up better players in trades & free agency, and you can't stack draft picks. It also keeps the rosters a little more 'realistic' , which I find helps with my immersion

As far as being too good at the game, can't really help you there as the game sliders don't really work. What I've done is limit my engagement in games. I won't play away games in a franchise, and only about 15-20 home games. And most of the home games, i'll sim the first two periods and then jump in.

any one knows how the player stats progression work ?

Kotka and Konecny both had 23p during their first playoff with Montreal. After the playoff they went +2-3.

is there any correlation for the development of the payers or it's pure luck ? Like Kotka is still 83 after a full offseason

I believe it’s based on production relative to their role.

For example, this past season (21-22), Markus Granlund and Jake Virtanen were both 79 overall for me. Granlund’s role was a “Depth Forward” while Virtanen was a “3rd Line Scoring Forward.”

Granlund scored 12-16-28 and Virtanen scored 16-16-32.

Granlund improved by 3 overall via stats while Virtanen did not improve.

Question. I’ve been playing coach mode recently, position locking coach, and then trying to analyze my team that way. It’s actually a pretty fun way to play and lets you mess around with strategies real time.

Only one problem. There’s no hitting. Zero hits in a game in coach mode. I tried messing with the aggression slider but it didn’t do anything. Anyone know how to fix this? Big hits would make coach mode better imo.
