You can't, only EA roster update will fix this.
Figured.

This game is so trash, still, after all these years.

I'll never forget back in like NHL 14 I wrote pretty much a dissertation on how to fix this game that got like a hundred thousands views and one of the community managers to reach out to see if I'd be interested in coming to Vancouver to meet the team. Then a week went by and I was perma banned off the forums and the easervers/thegame for 2 weeks. Haha unreal. Read over it the other night, and it's kind of crazy how almost all my critiques still apply.

If y'all diehards are bored and curious of another hardcore player's opinion on the state of this franchise 5 years ago.

2019-20 NHL SEASON PREVIEW

None of the 2019 draftees are starting in the NHL, although the first two picks (Kozhanov and Kakko) are starting in the AHL

Stanley Cup finalists Anaheim Ducks should be in the heat of things once again with captain Getzlaf returning, flanked by his old pal Corey Perry to go along with Rakell, Henrique, Ritchie, Kase, Sprong and Pominville up front as well as a solid D with Lindholm, Fowler, Montour and Manson. Youngsters Steel, Terry and Larsson are pushing up too. John Gibson is a 90 OVR.

Arizona didn't have a bad season last year but lost in round 1. Lead by Raanta, Ekman-Larsson, Chychrun, Keller and Galchenyuk they seem to have a lot of skills and depth and could make some noise. Nick Merkley will be a key addition to the forward corps.

Reigning champs Boston should be able to have a great season, roster remains pretty much unchanged except for the loss of Chara. Lead by the Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak line with McAvoy and Krug on D and Rask in net.

Buffalo's key skilled youngsters such as Eichel (90 OVR), Reinhart (88), Dahlin (86), Mittelstadt (86) and Ristolainen (86) should lead them to the playoffs especially with Skinner as secondary scoring and the additions of Thornton as well as Kevin Hayes. They do have average goaltending, though.

Carolina's addition of Sergei Bobrovsky should be enough to make them a contender, especially with all the skilled young players that they have. A top-5 D of Faulk-Hamiton-Fleury-Slavin-Pesce will be in front of Bob, and on offense you've got Aho, Teravainen, Svechnikov, Staal and Nino.

McDavid's Edmonton Oilers will be a team to watch, with the usual suspect Draisaitl-RNH to go along with a surging Jesse Puljujarvi and a D composed of Klefbom-Nurse-Larsson-Sekera. They do have suspect goaltending which could hinder their playoff hopes.

Los Angeles did a lot of damage last year only to get ousted in the 1st round by Vegas, it will be interesting to see if their aging core of Quick-Doughty-Kopitar-Carter-Kovalchuk-Martinez can get it done again.

Pittsburgh had a lot of offense last year and it should be the same this season lead by Crosby again with Kessel, Malkin and Letang. Depth includes Guentzel, Hornqvist, Schultz, Maatta, Dumoulin and Pearson. Murray in net is an 89 OVR. Their core is starting to age a bit so they need to make some noise this season.

Toronto missed the playoffs last year somehow and now they have Marner and Johnsson unsigned. They still have a lot of firepower though with the obvious Matthews/Tavares/Nylander trio up front and Rielly on D they also have Kadri and Muzzin as well as Andersen who's solid between the pipes. They need to at least get Marner done or else....

Winnipeg also missed the post-season but it shouldn't happen again as their very young team keeps improving. They did lost Trouba which weakens the D but their offense is unblieveable with Laine, Schefele, Wheeler, Ehlers, Vesalainen already at 86 OVR, Connor, Little and Roslovic with Hellebuyck holding the fort.

2019-20 MIDWAY POINT

Colorado with the big surprise grabs the #1 spot at the midway point of the season despite a MacKinnon injury. Washington, the 2018 Cup winner, and Anaheim, 2019 Cup Finalist, are right there followed by Pittsburgh's high octane offense. Florida is a bit of a surprise on there. Stanley Cup Champions Boston is now 12th, Buffalo is 16th, Los Angeles now 23rd, Toronto all the way down to 25th, Edmonton 27th and Vegas dead last.

None of the RFAs were signed in time and won't be able to play this year...

The Kucherov-Stamkos duo is breaking the league right now for Tampa, while Kessel-Crosby still killing it for Pittsburgh. McDavid is on there despite his team sucking, and sophomore Elias Pettersson is doing great things. Ovechkin is 11th with 40 pts, Laine has 37 pts, Kane 36, Malkin 36 and Matthews 35.

It seems to be a weak year for rookies, with Gurianov (DAL) leading the way with only 20 pts so far, followed by Jesper Boqvist (NJ), Dillon Dube (CGY), Kristian Vesalainen (WIN), Logan Brown (OTT), Kailer Yamamoto (EDM) and Filip Zadina (DET)

2019-20 SEASON REVIEW

-Buffalo deals Joe Thornton to Minnesota for Louie Belpedio
-Edmonton deals Darnell Nurse to Vegas for a 1st round pick and 2nd round pick
-Vegas deals Erik Haula to Philadelphia for Oskar Lindblom and Mikhail Vorobyev
-Los Angeles deals Nikita Scherbak to Rangers for Chris Kreider
-Rangers deal Ryan Strome to Montreal for 2nd round pick
-Ottawa deals JG Pageau and Cody Ceci to Dallas for two 2nd round picks
-New Jersey deals Derrick Brassard to Carolina for Samuel Poulin
-Islanders deal Brock Nelson to Arizona for 2nd round pick and 4th round pick

Tampa Bay wins the league with 117 pts and they will face the Hurricanes in round 1, pretty good matchup. Toronto manages to make the playoffs despite a slow start and no Marner, while last year's SC matchup Boston and Anaheim both make it, along with the offensive powerhouse Pittsburgh. Dallas nabs 1st in their division after picking 1st overall in the draft. Winnipeg misses again with 83 pts, Edmonton too with 80 pts. Islanders finnish in the basement yet again, while the Kings end up 30th in the league after being 1st last season.

The usual suspects are here with Matthews getting on there and carrying the Leafs to the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if Tampa's duo can keep going in the playoffs. Vancouver's star Elias Pettersson ends up with 72 pts, Dubois 70, Eichel 63, DeBrincat 61, Hischer 59, Barzal 58, A.Svechnikov 57, MacKinnon 54, B.Tkachuk 51, Kotkaniemi 38 and Dahlin 31. As for rookies, Jesper Boqvist and Vesalainen lead with 40 pts, followed by Alex Nylander with 39, Gurianov 34, Zadina 32 and Dube 31.

2020 NHL PLAYOFFS

The Bolts can't do it! Upset by the Hurricanes, Calgary upsets Anaheim and New Jersey gets rid of Crosby and his gang in 7: 2nd round is DAL/COL, VAN/CGY, WSH/NJ and BOS/CAR

The Avalanche are moving on after a game 7 win, and Calgary keeps upsetting Western powerhouses by getting rid of their arch rivals Canucks in 7 as well. In the East, Boston continues marching on their way to a repeat, and will face the Caps in the ECF. The last two Cup Winners.

Colorado was able to hold off the Flames and win in 5, and the Bruins are back in the Stanley Cup finals! What a matchup this is going to be.

2020-21 SEASON PREVIEW

EASTERN CONFERENCE

The Boston Bruins are definitely the team to watch coming off back-to-back Stanley Cup. Tuukka Rask is back as well as main line of Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak and McAvoy on D, although they lost Krug and Chara. Tampa Bay will definitely be major players as well, with Kucherov, Stamkos, Point, Sergachev, Hedman, McDonagh and Vasilevski they will try to avenge their 1st round exit, and in the same division you've got Toronto who should be in the thick of things.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Crosby gang should be near the top again, and other top teams in the East include Carolina (Bobrovsky), Washington (Holtby back-to-back Vezinas), Buffalo (Eichel/Dahlin), Philadelphia (Hart is now 89 OVR).

The two New York teams should once again be near the bottom (top picks Dach, Cozens and Yekimovs all starting in the NHL), just like Detroit, Ottawa (7th overall pick Kabanov starts in the NHL) and Montreal (Price).

WESTERN CONFERENCE

The Anaheim Ducks are the favourites to come out of the West lead by Gibson, Getzlaf, a solid D and a ton of young forwards (Rakell, Ritchie, Kase, Steel, Lundestrom, Sprong, Terry, Jones). Nashville and St.Louis still have strong teams and should be up there too, just like Colorado who just lost in the Stanley Cup Finals (Kakko will bring much needed depth up front). Vancouver (Demko/Pettersson) has a chance to continue doing some damage (Byram starts in NHL), and Calgary has a great team despite average goaltending.

Arizona is a young team on the rise, and Dallas is up in the air after drafting 1st overall in 2019 and then winning the Central the following year. They have a great D and of course the Benn-Seguin-Radulov line, but Bishop is getting older. Winnipeg is a huge wildcard with their amazing offense and Hellebuyck in net; they have missed the playoffs the last 2 years, and of course Edmonton who basically relies on McDavid to do everything (well, they do have Draisaitl, RNH and Puljujarvi).

Vegas (4th overall pick Niskala starts in NHL, Glass too) and Los Angeles (Lafreniere starts in CHL) should be near the bottom in the West.

Had a hankering to play this so I picked it up on sale. Stopped after 20 minutes and returned it. Could be the worst video game I have ever played. From the UI to the loading speed for doing simple things to the gameplay itself...it's a horrible game.

2020-21 MIDWAY POINT

Carter Hart's Philadelphia Flyers leading the way with Vancouver and Dallas following, no surprise here based on last season. The young and surging Coyotes and Sabres are up next and with a huge surprise, Los Angeles is 6th overall right now. The old guard of Quick/Kopitar/Kovalchuk/Doughty doing fine I see. Winnipeg finally seems to have figured it out and find themselves near the top. Boston is 11th, Toronto 13th, Tampa 14th, Pittsburgh 19th, Vegas 21st, Colorado 24th, Edmonton 29th (come on!) and the last two teams are Ottawa and Detroit without a surprise.

A bit of a changeup in the top scorers, no Pittsburgh players, no Kane, no McDavid, no Seguin, no Matthews although some of them arnt that far out. A bunch of duos, starting with Pettersson-Boeser (VAN), OEL-Keller (ARZ), Gaudrea-Monahan (CGY), Ovechkin-Kuznetsov (WSH), and of course Stamkos-Kucherov (TB). Matthews has 38 pts, McDavid 38, Hall 38, Seguin 38, Zadina 38, Kane 36, A.Svechnikov 35, Eichel 34, MacKinnon 30, Malkin 30, Laine 30, Kessel 27, Crosby 27

2020 second overall pick Yuri Jekimovs with the Islanders is leading the way in the rookie department with 32 pts in 37 games, followed by Vegas' Jani Niskala with 27. Jekimovs' teammate Kirby Dach follows with 23 pts, and then Niskala's teammate Cody Glass with 21 pts. Nicolas Roy (CAR) has 20 pts, Vyacheslav Kabanov (OTT) 16, Kakko 16, Jakub Zboril 16, Lias Andersson 16, Grundstrom (now with LA) 14 pts, Abramov (CBJ) 13, Julien Gauthier (CAR) 13 and 2019 first overall pick Ilya Kozhanov (DAL) 12.

2020-21 SEASON REVIEW

-Florida deals Mark Pysyk to Ottawa for 3rd round pick
-Anaheim deals Josh Mahura to Ottawa for Zack Smith and 3rd round pick
-Florida deals Justin Williams to Anaheim for 3rd round pick
-Chicago deals Brandon Saad to Vancouver for Jett Woo and 1st round pick

-St.Louis deals Brayden Schenn to Vegas for prospect George Tan (3rd round pick with Elite medium potential)
-Vegas deals Anthony Duclair to NY Islanders for 4th round pick
-Montreal deals Tomas Tatar to San Jose for Antti Suomela and 4th round pick
-Montreal deals Brendan Gallagher and Antti Suomela to Colorado for Nikita Kulikov (1st round pick, top-4 D med potential), 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick
-San Jose deals Marcus Sorensen to Florida for 3rd round pick
-Toronto deals Rasmus Sandin to Dallas for Jason Robertson

A ton of interesting matchups are ahead for the 2021 playoffs. CAR/TB both win the league with 108 pts seasons. Unsurprisingly for Tampa who will now face a tough Buffalo team, same story for Carolina who will face the Penguins offensive powerhouse. A classic Toronto/Boston series is also on the schedule, as the Leafs will try to stop the Bruins' Stanley Cup victory streak. In the West, Winnipeg finally makes it, LA just edges Vancouver, who nabbed Saad at the deadline, for top spot in the Pacific. Nashville just misses with 90 pts, Anaheim 88 pts, Colorado 87 pts misses despite acquiring Gallagher, Edmonton ends up 27th, and another tough season for the Islanders, Senators and Red Wings.

A lot of familiar faces on there but Kuznetsov ends up winning the Art Ross with his linemate good old Ovechkin coming in 4th place. Dubois makes an appearance at 7th with 77 pts and Marchand is also on there with 75 pts, as well as Hischier. 2021 NHL PLAYOFFS

Both DAL and LAK crushed their opponents in 4 straight while Vancouver was upset by SJ in 7. In the east Buffalo upsets Tampa in 4, Penguins also upset Carolina and the Bruins move past the Leafs. 2nd round is; DAL/STL, LAK/SJ, BOS/BUF, WSH/PIT

Somehow the Sabres have dealt away with the Bruins in 4 straigth and have yet to lose in these playoffs so far. The Caps make quick work of the Penguins and find themselves in the ECF again. On the other side, the Stars and Sharks will clash in the WCF, with Pavelski facing his former team.

In the ECF, Ovechkin and his clan serve Buffalo some of their own medicine, sweeping them in a hurry, whereas the Sharks and the newly added Tomas Tatar manage to beat the Stars. The Capitals are back in the finals just like in 2017-18 and will face the Sharks who are looking to win it all during the Karlsson/Burns window (but Pavelski and Thornton are both gone).

I started a Rangers franchise where my created Vitaly Kravstov becomes a living god. Year one he is in the AHL and records 82 points in 62 games playing 9 game trial in the NHL, having 4 points in that span. He was scratched a bit because stupid AI and then dominated. Rookie year he wins the calder with 72 points and is a 40 goal scorer, which he would continue to be. His second year 85 points and year three was insane. Yes signing Ovechkin in free agency was a big boost but Kravstov was the main goal scorer that year. We go from dead last in the east to 2nd in the metro and Kravstov finishes with the Art Ross with 109 points. He Ziba, and Ovi all had the lowest at 95 points creating a dynamic line. We would wind up cup champs defeating Chicago in 6.

That's awesome!! Love reading about created players & favorite drafted players.

I'm in year 8 of my Quebec Nordiques franchise. Drafted Jack Hughes in the first year who has turned into a stud, but even better, I've drafted nearly a dozen great prospects including elite wingers Gustavs Kolesnik, Eddie Koppel, and Luke Brodziak. And my defense is entirely guys I drafted in 2019 through 2021 (the first few years I really sucked and came in dead last twice).

The draft is almost too easy with the inclusion of 'gems', who almost always make it. But I love it anyway. I got a medium franchise goalie in round three, it took him about 3/4 years, but he's finally starting now as an 84 overall.

I actually had a couple Finnish players from my last two drafts that played a big role. I went from worst to first that was pretty nice.

How can I get the computer to hit more. It seems like the bots seem to like to avoid physical play altogether.

For a game with a new hitting engine, it seems like it's kinda a gyp if the bots don't hit.

they think they make it fair since at higher difficulties the cpus can knock you flying with no momentum grazed hits and stick lift magically even thought they are way behind you.

Just finished a 25 year franchise mode with the leafs I was a bit upset when I realized that EA didn’t give a GM career review

Love franchise mode. Pretty much all I play. My major gripe is obviously with simulations. I have developed the following thoughts after many hours playing

-Get only A- or better scouts. A half dozen great scouts is all you need. I usually ignore the CHL so it’s even easier, but I like knowing that my scouting reports are accurate. Also, if you have nobody with regional knowledge in an area and have to send someone with no experience to scout, they will improve their knowledge of that area a lot faster than a bad or OK scout will improve their overall scouting ability.

-Too many trades and free agency additions results in fewer regular season wins. Clearly the game rewards you if you develop your one players and don’t rebuild your roster every summer. Also, this is the best way to keep Team Locker Room Chemistry high. Check the morale of your AHL team, players that are leaders or a presence there will have the same effect in NHL and should be developed with extra attention. Morale is annoying but helps get you wins so it’s worth monitoring.

-Russia, SHL, Liiga are best places to scout. Usually one of these 3 leagues will dominate the draft. Start by Scouting whichever one looks strongest for skills and potential comparison. You will always have Elite prospects in your system in you do this. I also just prefer finding elite Europeans to North Americans, feels like it is more fun for some reason. In the U.S, there is always one region that has most of the talent, usually the Central. Look at this things at beginning of season and tackle the best regions first than send your scouts to weaker regions.

-Young players need special team play, veteran line mates and to not be forced up the lineup. If you have an 82 Med Elite C who is 19 and listed as a 3rd line scoring forward, put him on the third line with veterans who compliment his game. Also, if he’s an offensive player make sure he gets PP time and PK if he’s a defensive style player etc.

-Kessler is a beast well into his 30s. Even when he’s rated as an 82 overall and 36, he will still be a PPG winger for your young studs.

-H.Fleury, Ryan Murray, Demko, Puljujarvi, Alex Nylander, Liljegren are among guys who almost always become really good

-Kotkaniemi, Middlestadt, Brannstrom, N.Patrick seem to usually disappoint.

Kotkaniemi usually is a good 2 way center for me, and a good 70 point player. Middlestadt never seems to develop, probably going to trade him in my new Buffalo save.

Could you share the stats you gave him? Looking to create K'andre Miller and Vitali Kravtsov for a new Rangers franchise mode.
