Nvm. I chose The Buffalo Sabres. I am an Oilers fan, but thought it would be fun and challenging.
Lol that's easy mode....you have the Rasmus top pairing with Eichel to build around along with Sam who for some reason seems to be close to Eichel in franchise mode value wise.

Sam Reinhart hat a breakout season as well, becoming an 87 Overall and becoming a major part of the franchise. Buffalo better hope their players can do well against the 1st overall draft pick, Matej Bunka, a Franchise Med player for the Detroit Red Wings."

Draft Results

They are also getting rid of Marco Scandella for Neal Pionk from New York. They also are getting rid of Zemus Bogosian and a 1st round pick in 2024 for prospect Kirby Dach, but retaining $1.5M of Bogosian's salary of over 5 mil. With the free cap space, they pick up Anton Stralman for $4.7 mil for three years to get some veteran defense.

Off Season Report 2019-2020 Season - Buffalo Sabres

The Regular Season

Bob: "Buffalo had a relatively good regular season, with Tyler Seguin being the number one player in goals, assits, and points. Pierre Luc Dubois and Sam Reinhart were amazing this season, too. The lines were stacked all season, so here is what they were:"
Forwards
S.Reinhart 90T. Seguin 92M. Stone 87
B. Point 86P. Dubois 88K. Okposo 82
D. Strome 83T. Thompson 80C.Sheary 81

J. McCabe 80B. Ghule 80
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Goalie
U. Luukkonen 85
C. Hutton 82
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

James: "These lines dominated the league, creating 55 wins, only 19 losses, and just 8 OT/SO losses. They had the most points in the league with 118 and took 1st place. Let's have a look at the playoffs."

Playoffs
Bob: "Thanks James, and Buffalo took the first series against the Sens 4-2 with little resistance. They were down 3-0 against the maple leafs, but came back to win the series, 4-3. Then they met the caps in the Conference Final, and it was a tight race but Buffalo took it 4-3. Then came the finals against the Dallas Stars, where Buffalo traded Jack Eichel to for Tyler Seguin. It was tied at 3-3 in the series, and 6-6 in game seven, going into overtime... Seguin had multiple chances to score, but ultimately it was his old partner, Jamie Benn who put it home and took the cup for Dallas."

Trade Deadline
James: "Buffalo was very inactive at the trade deadline, but here was there one trade:"
BuffaloToColumbus
K. Dach (74)ForL. Foudy(78)
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Bob: "They also had a small trade in the middle of the season with Vegas:"
VGKToBuffalo

[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Bob: "That's all for now, lets check out the Draft."

Draft Day
James: " Buffalo has just made two MAJOR trades to acquire the top two picks at this draft, most likely Med Franchise Wade McLaren and High Elite Alexis Lafreniere. Let's take a closer look at the trades:"
BuffaloToLA
M. Stone and 1st rnd 2021 4th rnd 2020For 2020 1st Round (1st)

[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Bob: "Wow. One season after acquiring Mark Stone and not even a season with Foudy, still in the CHL, they're traded for two high potential prospects. What has Buffalo done?!"
James: "They made moves, Bob, bold moves. Here are Buffalo's Draft Results:"
Drafted PlayersPlace
W. McLaren1
A. Lafreniere2
S. Byfuglien81
V. Kvasha112
M. Jenner154
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
James: "That's a pretty good draft if i do say so myself for Buffalo. We'll be back with you in a bit after the break."

Signings
Bob: "They handed out a lot of contracts this season, including a major payday for Sam Reinhart for almost $10 mil a year and $7.275mil a year for Pierre Luc Dubois. But to do this, they had to buyout two players... those two being Kyle Okposo and... TYLER SEGUIN?! What? Why?!"
James: "I know it seams unbelievable, but here's the GM's reason why:"
"We think we have an excellent youth core, and we need cap space for free agency," says Bedard, "Tyler is a very good player but he is also expensive, and we have so much potential on our team that we just had no room for him any more."
James: "Wow. Thats huge. Also, Dylan Strome is going out on a qualified RFA. We'll have more after this break."
Free Agents
Bob: "Buffalo doesn't do much except resign Dylan Strome. They attempted to sign Jacob Spurgeon and Anthony Duclair, but they both went to different teams. That's all for Today, have fun!"

I can’t stand EA. I’m in the year 2024, and every time I start the draft, the game inevitably freezes. Every time. I’ve attempted to get through it at least 20-30 times, and no luck. Whether I attempt to make a trade in the draft, view a prospect’s scouting report, or go back to the main draft screen (from the prospect draft board), one of those things will eventually make the game freeze. What do I do? I have the latest version of the game as well. I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.

I know I've read about people having problems with having too many draft picks/too many unsigned players. Haven't experienced it myself as I've tried to avoid accumulating draft picks/unsigned players.

Can you load a previous save (prior to the draft, preferably before the trade deadline)?

NHL 19 - Franchise Mode - Vancouver Canucks - 2020/2021 Season

September 16, 2020

Training camp kicks off today and the Vancouver Canucks signed 2020 6th overall draft pick Emanuel Jovanovski to a 3-year entry-level contract a few days prior after an impressive performance in the Young Stars tournament.

The Norwegian winger hopes to claim a roster spot in training camp, hopefully in the top 6. "I want to join the club and help win some hockey games," Jovanovski responded when asked what his goals were heading into training camp.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 3, 2020

The Vancouver Canucks have finalized their roster ahead of the deadline for the regular season with rookie Emanuel Jovanovski making the final cut, much to the delight of the Canucks fanbase, which is hungry for the rebuild to finally be complete.

The opening night lineup is expected to be:

B. HorvatE. PetterssonB. Boeser
S. BaertschiB. SutterE. Jovanovski
L. ErikssonS. GagnerK. Lind
A. RousselM. GranlundJ. Virtanen
D. PouliotC. Tanev
O. Juolevi B. Hutton
A. EdlerT. Stecher
T. Demko
J. Markstrom
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
Jay Beagle, Adam Gaudette, and Michael Del Zotto also made the team, but not the opening lineup.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

January 1, 2021

The first half of the 2020-2021 campaign haven't gone to plan for the Vancouver Canucks, who find themselves in an all-too-familiar position near the bottom of the standings. Injuries to Bo Horvat and Brandon Sutter have left large holes to fill up front and, with Bo Horvat expected to be out until March with an upper-body injury, it isn't expected to improve any time soon. Stars Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson continue to pile up the points at a near point-per-game pace, but scoring support is few and far between behind them.

Rookie Emanuel Jovanovski finds himself 4th on the team in scoring with 18 points behind the injured Bo Horvat (24 points in 32 games) and 3rd in the rookie scoring race behind Montreal's Andrew Hicketts (32 points) and Minnesota's Peter Sprukts (29 points).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

February 25, 2021

The NHL trade deadline wrapped up yesterday afternoon with a pair of bombshells starting with the Edmonton Oilers shipping out defenseman Adam Larsson alongside Brandon Tanev and a pick to the Winnipeg Jets for their 1st and 2nd round picks in the upcoming draft. Chicago then sent winger Brandon Saad and depth forward Par Lindholm to Carolina in exchange for their 1st and 3rd round picks.

A few days prior to the deadline, the New York Rangers sent out defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk to Vegas for their 1st round pick and a couple of prospects and the New York Islanders gave up on the Josh Ho-Sang project, shipping him to Columbus alongside defenseman Adam Pelech and a 2nd round pick for Columbus' 1st and a 7th.

April 10, 2021

Despite an impressive 7-2-1 finish to the season, the Vancouver Canucks missed the playoffs yet again, finishing 23rd overall and expected to select 9th overall, pending the results of the draft lottery.

Brock Boeser led the team in scoring for the second consecutive year, tallying 29 goals and 75 points. Elias Pettersson recovered from his sophomore slump last season with a 24-goal, 67-point performance while leading the team in takeaways and +/-.

Rookie Emanuel Jovanovski finished the year with 16 goals and 47 points after a strong finish, good for 3rd in rookie scoring. Minnesota's Peter Sprukts led all rookies with 33 goals and 59 points.

Upcoming UFA and lifelong Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler has saw his minutes diminish once again, averaging only 14 minutes/game this year, down from 19.5 minutes the year before, and about 24-25 minutes for the past decade or so. Edler is expected to take some time over the next few months to decide whether he would like to return. It's uncertain if Canucks management plans to move on from the big Swede. "We have to do a post-mortem and our end-of-year interviews before we can make evaluations and comment on our plans moving forward regarding the team and any individual players," said the Canucks GM.

The Anaheim Ducks secured the Presidents' Trophy with 112 points and Alex Ovechkin will add at least another two trophies to his already extensive collection, winning the Maurice Richard and Art Ross trophies with 59 goals and 95 points this season.

Thought I'd give the franchise mode of NHL 19 a spin after so long without touching it throughout the yearly iterations of the game. The drafting is better but the trades are still quite rough and nonsensical.

Year four of my franchise, I had managed to carefully plan and cut together unarguably the best team of the league as far as overall goes, while staying relatively young and cheap. My team had good chemistry, toughness, poise, goaltending, size and speed galore, and, while I tried virtually all possible coaching strategy changes and changed goalies and lines around to get my team going, I still finished below .500 while simulating the games at Superstar difficulty with default sliders and settings.

That made me remember exactly why I had stopped playing franchise mode and it's good to know that after all these years the same issues keep popping up, makes for some admirable consistency.

Just made an Eric Lindros like trade in my Kansas City Monarchs franchise. Traded three players and two future draft picks for one guy.

His name is Troy Gordon, and he was rated 84 overall, medium elite. I had the 4th overall pick, and picked a guy named Jared Armsden, then traded him, my 2nd line center (84 overall), a good right wing prospect, and a 1st & 2nd round pick. I probably could have gotten him for less, but I hate to rip off the CPU. And Armsden might end up being like Forsberg, he was ranked 81 overall, medium elite as well. Just couldn't resist the guy.

Alex Ovechkin will fly home from Las Vegas with another 3 trophies to add to his extensive collection after winning the Art Ross, Hart Memorial, and Maurice Richard trophies last night at the annual NHL Awards. The 35-year-old superstar tallied 59 goals and 95 points, the 9th 50-goal season of his illustrious career, and the Great 8 is still hoping to catch The Great One's goal scoring record, needing just 130 more goals. Ovechkin is pending UFA and still in contract discussions with the Washington Capitals, with whom he has spent his entire NHL career.

Longtime nemesis Sidney Crosby also added a trophy to his collection, winning the Frank J. Selked trophy as the league's top defensive forward.

Vancouver Canucks forward, Brock Boeser, narrowly edged Ovechkin for the Ted Lindsay award which is awarded to the league's most valuable player as voted on by the NHLPA. Boeser scored 29 goals and 75 points on a Canucks team that suffered from key injuries and a lack of scoring depth.

The Minnesota Wild won the draft lottery and will select 1st overall. The New Jersey Devils and the New York Islanders won the second and third overall selections in the lottery. The Vancouver Canucks will drop 1 spot as a result of the draft lottery results and select 10th overall.

NHL Central Scouting released their final rankings with Slovakian centre Ladislav Zednik expected to be the first name on the draft board. Zednik currently plays for HC Sparta Praha of Extraliga in the Czech Republic where he is a top player in the league and is expected to play in the NHL next season. Minnesota drafted fellow countryman and Calder Memorial trophy winner, Peter Sprukts, 4th overall in last year's NHL entry draft.

"Jumbo" Joe Thornton headlines the list of NHL players who won't be returning next season as retirements were announced. Thornton was drafted 1st overall by the Boston Bruins in 1997 and was traded to San Jose during the '05-'06 season, a year in which he won the Art Ross and Hart Memorial trophies. Thornton scored 1582 points over nearly a quarter of a century, the last 15 years of which were spent with the San Jose Sharks.

The Minnesota Wild selected centre Ladislav Zednik with the first overall pick and hope the young Slovakian will be as successful as last year's rookie of the year, Peter Sprukts. Zednik scored 11 goals and 20 points in 45 games in Extraliga with HC Sparta Praha, a pro league in the Czech Republic.

The Vancouver Canucks drafted Canadian winger Jeff Henley from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Henley scored 23 goals and 57 points this past season in the OHL.

The Edmonton Oilers and the New York Rangers each made 3 selections in the first round as they both hope to jump start their rebuilds.

The reigning NHL Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins announced yesterday that they signed reigning league MVP and scoring champion Alex Ovechkin. This could be the beginning of a dynasty for Boston, who already has one of the best top lines in the league with the '19-'20 Art Ross winner Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak. It's uncertain as of now where Ovechkin will fit in the lineup.

Boston didn't stop there, adding defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic from the San Jose Sharks to the blue line in exchange for a couple of prospects and a 2nd round draft pick. Shortly after the trade, San Jose announced that they signed UFA defenseman Dougie Hamilton to a 5-year contract.

The Washington Capitals chose to extend up-and-coming star Eeli Tolvanen to a 5-year, $45M contract which didn't leave any cap space to re-sign their captain.

Goaltender Frederik Andersen scored the largest contract of the day, signing a 7-year, $44.8M contract with the New York Islanders. Andersen won the Conn Smythe trophy in 2020, helping the Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

Tomorrow marks the end of August and teams will soon start preparing for the upcoming season with training camp starting in 2 weeks.

Boston, the reigning champs, made some big moves in the offseason to reload for hopefully another long playoff run, adding arguably the best scorer of all-time, a highly-regarded defender, and some veteran depth to their lineup.

NHL 19 - Franchise Mode - Vancouver Canucks - 2021 Offseason

June 20, 2021

July 2, 2021

Is fog of war on an expansion team extremely hard or about has difficult as fog of war on a team that already exists
Haven't tried, but probably it's off for the expansion draft. In my fantasy draft fog of war was off until after the draft was complete.

Seems to happen every year. Bad AI

Montreal signed 3 backups the year before, traded 2 before the season started.

I just noticed they gave Raanta 7.4M.

Do they not have Freddy still? How do they have the cap space for that

I've manually put in extensions for Matthews (10.5m), Marner (8.8M and Nylander (6.9M) because the Toronto AI always leaves no cap room to sign Marner, even despite usually signing Matthews for like 8M. So I just did their extensions myself

Freddy signed with the Islanders for 7 years x $6.4M

I know I've read about people having problems with having too many draft picks/too many unsigned players. Haven't experienced it myself as I've tried to avoid accumulating draft picks/unsigned players.

Can you load a previous save (prior to the draft, preferably before the trade deadline)?
Yea I tried to load a previous save, and it still wouldn’t work. I traded away draft picks, and nothing. I didn’t have many unsigned prospects, but I accumulated a lot of draft picks (something that I only do for my first franchise mode of the year).

NHL 19 - Franchise Mode - Vancouver Canucks - 2021/2022 Season

October 4, 2021

The Vancouver Canucks made their final cuts yesterday, finalizing the 23-man roster they will enter the season with. Veteran forwards Antoine Roussel and Jay Beagle, each making $3M this year, cleared waivers and will join the Utica Comets.

21-year-old rookie defenseman Jett Woo made the final cut and is expected to be a depth defenseman for the club, although he may take on a larger role as the season moves forward.

The projected line up for the season opener against the Carolina Hurricanes is expected to be:
Horvat, BoPettersson, EliasBoeser, Brock
Baertschi, SvenSutter, BrandonJovanovski, Emanuel
Eriksson, LouiLind, KoleVirtanen, Jake
Granlund, MarkusGagner, SamGaudette, Adam

After several years of mediocrity, the Vancouver Canucks appear to have turned a corner this season, finishing the first half with a 22-13-6 record, the 10th best in the NHL. Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson currently rank #1 and #3 in scoring with 47 and 43 points respectively, forming a formidable top line with Bo Horvat (28 points in 30 games) that also sports the best +/- in the league with a +23 average.

Veterans Brandon Sutter and Sam Gagner are enjoying bounce back years, scoring 13 and 8 goals respectively so far this season after combining for just 6 goals last season. Sutter's linemate, Emanuel Jovanovski, is showing no signs of a sophomore slump with 12 goals and 27 points, good for a 24-goal, 54-point pace.

Demko is backstopping the Canucks with a career year to date with a 92.7 Sv% to go along with a 15-8-1 record.

Division rival Los Angeles has surprised everyone, jumping out to a huge lead in the Presidents' Trophy race with a 30-6-5 record through the first half while scoring the 2nd most goals and allowing the fewest in the league as the veteran-laden squad is proving they've still got it.

I need some advise from someone who knows better than me, I have a 21 yr old goalie in AHL who now sits at an 58 rating but has High Elite potential. His trade value is among the highest in my team so I'm wondering if he will ever reach his potential or if i should trade him this season? How big are the chances of him accually reaching his potential and how long can it take?

going to start a 32nd NHL franchise today, or do an oilers GM Mode with Chiarelli now officially out. i find myself always ruining GM Modes for myself so going to use this post to outline some rules I'm adding in.

- Player Morale will be on.
- Any F/D/G with an 83+ rating gets a L-NTC
|-> can't trade them to a bottom 10 team in league
- Any F/D/G with an 85+ rating gets a full NTC
|-> can't trade them unless they request a trade, would have to go to team above my place in standings...if i'm first, must be top 5 team in league...other instance would be if they cite the want for a bigger role, i could trade them to any team with a need for their services (ie: trading LW to a team with poor LW depth)
- Any F/D/G with an 88+ rating gets a NMC
|-> cannot be waived or traded.
- Can only sign 1 star free agent per season, along with 2 other depth signings, or 4 depth signings total without the star.
|-> cannot trade them in first year of deal, must offer atleast $0.250M but no more than $0.750M more than their asking price, be within 1 year of their ask
- No more than 5 Trade Deadline Trades
|-> will prevent me from overselling and having too many draft picks (too easy to draft high end talent), and also prevent me from being unrealistic
- If i have a player 33 years or above (83 OVR+), cannot trade them to teams unless they are currently holding a playoff spot/made playoffs last season (in case of summer trade)
|-> players at this age are pushing for NTC in deals and would only waive for teams that give them a chance to win.
- cannot have more than 12 draft picks in a season
|-> keeps me in check when selling

any others you can think of? totally opposed to the must accept proposed trades/no proposing trades, so wont be adding those.
