For the second straight season, New York Qualified RFA F Boo Nieves

The Rangers allowed D Adam McQuaid (NHL), F Matt Beleskey (AHL), F Gabriel Fontaine (AHL), D Brandon Crawley (AHL) to walk to Free Agency.

UFA Forward Martin Frk chose to test the Free Agent market. AHL starting goaltender Laurent Brossoit also chose to test th waters, citing an opportunity to play in the NHL elsewhere.

Free Agency

The Free Agent Frenzy broadcast team:
Host: James Duthie
Deal Breaker Desk: Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger, Pierre LeBrun, and Gord Miller
Instant Analysis Panel: Ray Ferraro, Jeff O’Neill, Dave Poulin, Martin Biron, Pierre McGuire
FA Bait: Craig Button
Free Agency Panel: Jamie McLennan, Aaron Ward

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Duthie: It's time for TSN's annual coverage of the Free Agent Frenzy. It's 202,0, and although they pool isn't as deep as the incredible pool last year, we still have some great talent available. Craig, who are the top players in play?

Button: James, I wouldn't underestimated the talent that this Free Agent Crop has. It features 2 elite forwards in Mikael Granlund and Nicklas Backstrom, 2 elite defensemen in Roman Josi and Tyson Barrie, and an elite, albeit aging, goalie in Corey Crawford. After that there is considerably depth from Schenn (F), to Krug (D), to Anderson (G). Quite the pool.

Ward: The Rangers are going to be on the hunt for a forward, shockingly. Despite having a great offense on paper, it faltered last season.

McLennan: I'm also hearing rumblings that they're talking contract with a few backup goalies on the market. They weren't impressed with Alexandar Georgievs performance last season. They're not ruling him out for the job again next season, but they want a better option.

McKenzie: Philadelphia has already completley revamped their goaltending, signing both Corey Crawford and Craig Anderson so 2-year deals. Both are 35+ and they will benefit from having eachother to give them time off.
Another team we've seen revamp a position is Colorado, who despite losing Tyson Barrie, signed both T.J Brodie and Sami Vatenen to multi-year deals.

Dreger: Nashville and New Jersey have both also been news factories today. The Predators lost Roman Josi to Detroit, but added a solid defender in Anton Stralman and a great winger in Tyler Toffoli. New Jersey added two of the biggest names available when they signed Tyson Barrie and Mikael Granlund to 5 and 6 year deals respectively.

LeBrun: We've already heard Josi is heading to Detroit, but they weren't done there. The Red Wings also signed G Robin Lehner to be there starter as they cut ties with Jimmy Howard. Minnesota may have lost Grandlund, but they added Mike Hoffman to provide some scoring replacement.

Miller: Joe Thornton, who was long rumored to want to join the Rangers before he retired, has instead joined Dallas. Have to assume NYR weren't interested with their center conundrum they already have. Speaking of centers, Nicklas Backstrom, winner of three straight Stanley Cups with the Capitals, has now joined the Boston Bruins.

images

Dreger: Brayden Schenn is heading to the Rangers on a 3 or 4 year deal. Hearing the cap hit is $7.000M no matter the term.

Poulin: The Rangers have this last chance to put it together. There was no way they should have struggled to score last year, but they did, so they were forced to do this. The deal is actually fair value, but it doesn't make any sense according to the Rangers situation.

Ferraro: I have to agree. The Rangers have Pavel Buchnevich, Filip Chytil, Brett Howden and Lias Andersson all on expiring deals. They will likely cash in at around $20.000M - at minimum, and they currently only preside over $8.000M. That's a scary thought.

images

McKenzie: Malcolm Subban is going to join Schenn in New York. Obviously not as big of a deal, this one only carries a 2-year term. It's total value is $3.500M.

Biron: This is a great signing. Georgiev does not see to be the heir to Hank's throne, and I'm not sure if Subban is, but he's a better option.

O'Neill: I still don't see how the Rangers are contenders when they haven't taken care of their biggest issue on defense. There is a glaring hole in their lineup in the fact that they don't have an elite D. Every single team that has won the Cup in the last 10 years has had an elite defenseman, save for the Penguins when Letang was injured. Chara, Keith, Doughty, Keith, Doughty, Keith, N/A (Letang inj.), Letang, Carlson, Carlson, Carlson.

McGuire: They have Lindgren, Byram, Bigras, Keane and Hajek coming up in the ranks. They have incredible depth, and Henrik Lundqvist is a better goaltender, even at 38, than any of those teams that won the Cup, so he can help. Not predicting a Cup win, but don't count them out.

Duthie: Okay folks, that's all the time we have. We will see you back here on TSN at the Trade Deadline, where you may juts see the Rangers return to buying.

Just finished year one of my expansion. The Kansas City Monarchs.

It was a complete disaster LOL

Finished 25-48-9, with only 59 points. Dead last in the league. We did get the first overall pick though, so Jack Hughes to start the new year.

2018 NHL ENTRY DRAFT
upload_2018-12-7_11-35-48.jpeg

Quebec City had the fourth pick but felt two spot in the NHL Draft Lottery. They will pick 6th overall.
With that pick, they will select the centerman from Drummondville Voltigeurs in LHJMQ, Joe Veleno.
2018 SUMMER - FREE AGENCY
images

Quebec City waste no time and announce that they trade their defensman Mark Giordano to the Philadelphia Flyers, in return of the young centermen Travis Konecny (C-80) and their 2019 2nd draft pick.

A few days laters, the Nordiques announce that they signed three new players in Dustin Tokarski (G-74), Travis Morin (C-74) and Eric Gelinas (D-76), all of them heading to AHL for the moment.

images

Quebec City hit big in the third week of free agency, by signing the second most convoited players in John Carlson (D-86). The franchise player will earn 5.65M$ for the next 6 years.

upload_2018-12-7_11-42-39.png

Later that month, Quebec will sign a foward who seem to love playing for the new teams, as they come to term with David Perron (LW-84) for the next 4 years, worthy of 18,4 M$.

The Nordiques announced that Darren Helm, John Carlson and Martin Hanzal will all wears ''A'' for the first season of the reborn Nordiques. With their first season in more than twenty years, they felt it was best to let the first season pass to see who will naturally step up as the true captain.

The pre-season went pretty well for Quebec City, earning a 3-1-2 record, while young players prove their high potential. It's the case for Joe Veleno (7-4-4-8), Sergei Kurashev (6-1-5-6) and Phillip Di Giuseppe (7-2-3-5). But, knowing that the first won't be easy, the team choose to sent back Veleno and Kurashev in junior, to make that they will continue rightfully their development.

In the case of Di Giuseppe, the foward will start the season in the AHL, but you'll probably won't have to wait too long to see him back in the white & blue uniform.

Disapointing debuts"]The Quebec Nordiques managed to do well for the first 13 games, having a record of 9-3-1, winning their 5 home games during this period. But the Nordiques will later struggle, loosing four games in a row and showing a record of 12-7-2 after 21 games. The offensive productivity being the main reason, scoring 50 goals during this period and being 30th in the league. Only Buffalo (50) and Detroit (47) have done worst so far.

Injury strick for the first time"]Alex Killorn, who's having a disapointing offensive record (21-4-3-7) broked his right hand and will miss the next five weeks. Tomas Jurco being already in the lineup, do to the poor productivity of Calle Jarnkrok (13-0-0-0), Phillip Di Giuseppe is call-up to fill-in

Knowing that this first year won't probably end up in a Stanley Cup chase, the Nordiques accept to trade their young defensman Kyle Connauton (D-77) and their 2018 5th round pick to the New York Rangers. In exchange, New York sended their 2019 4th round pick.

Dec. 5th, 2018

After loosing 6 of there 7 last games, Quebec City make a move by trading defensman Kevin Miller (who show a -8 differential during this period), with their 2019 3rd round pick to the Detroit Red Wings. In return, Detroit send their 2019 2nd round pick to Quebec. With a open space at defense, Patrick Wiercioch enter the lineup, while Eric Gelinas his call-up to be the 7th defensman.

upload_2018-12-7_12-0-35.jpeg

Meanwhile, young centerman Travis Konecny prove to be a good prospect for the team, leading to them to extend his contract for the next 3 years for 12,3M$.

Dec. 20th, 2018

upload_2018-12-7_12-3-55.jpeg

After a good rebound from the team, the Nordiques are back in their bad habbits, loosing their last 5 games. This lead to frustration from some players, like Alex Killorn who's recently back in action after being injured for 4 weeks. In order to reduce the negativity in the lockeroom and be in good position in the next NHL Entry Draft, Quebec decide to trade the foward to the Colorado Avalanches, who will potentially be looking for a good run in the 2019 playoffs. In return, Quebec acquire their 2019 2nd round pick and the young foward Michael Bournival, who is directly send to the AHL

Dec. 30th, 2018
images
images

In a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, defensman Jack Johnson suffered a concussion, meaning he'll be out of action for the next 4 to 6 weeks. With their trouble in defense this season, plus the lack of potential at this position, Quebec make another move. This time, they send the foward Calle Jarnkrok, who have been a disapointing so far (19-0-1-1), and their 2019 2nd round pick from Minnesota to the St-Louis Blues. In return, the Nordiques gets the young and promising defensman Vince Dunn (D-81).

Jan. 4th, 2019
images

Bad news continues in the injury department, with the starting goaltender Philipp Grubauer suffering a hand contusion, meaning he will miss the next 3 or 4 weeks. While Calvin Pickard is set to take the #1 chair, Laurent Brossoit is call-up from AHL to fill-in the back-up chair.

A couple days later, the team will make a little trade, sending their 2019 6th round pick to the Buffalo Sabres, in return of young defensman named Cam Nelson (D-74).

The goalies are almost always what's keeping the team alive during the matches. Unfortunately, the starter Philipp Grubauer is hurt and now, Calvin Pickard will have to prove his potential. Fortunately, he showed so far that he can win some matches for the team. Also, with Grubauer's injury, Laurent Brossoit will have a chance to prove his talent sooner than later.

John Carlson is proving why he is a leader in the team by being everywhere on the ice and the scoresheet, while Vince Dunn proves to be a young and promising futur top 2 defensman so far.
Tyler Myers is destructing everything at his blue line, but sometimes put himself and is team by doing so.
Jack Johnson and Tomas Hickey are both big disapointing, being both of them at some point put out of the lineup or put on the third pair...

The fowards are, for the most part, putting horrible numbers, putting the team 30th in the league for the goals scores.
Fortunately, Jasper Fast and Tomas Konecny are showing some potential and could be great asset in the near futur of the team.
Despite being on the scoresheet, Phillip Di Giuseppe is showing a lot of great things on the ice and could be higher in the stats later this season.

The Quebec Nordiques ship out yet another defensman who's having a tough season so far in Thomas Hickey. Realising they have to continu to built toward the draft and the future, Quebec sent Hickey to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for their 2019 2nd draft pick and prospect Griffin Reinhart. Reinhart will join the Nordiques AHL affiliate. With Jack Johnson still injured, Eric Gelinas will find a place in the lineup as the 6th defensman

Two players fall during a 4-3 win against the Florida Panthers, as Josh Manson suffered an injury to his right hand and David Perron suffered a injury to the mid-section. Both of them will miss the next three weeks. Tomas Jurco (RW-78) reintered the lineup, while Cam Nelson (D-74) make his debut as a Nordiques player.
TRADE DEADLINE
While it as been a pretty calm trade deadline, their were still some interresting trade worth to be mention.

upload_2018-12-7_13-40-43.jpeg

First of all, the Quebec Nordiques we're the first to move this day, by trading defensman Jack Johnson to the Vegas Golden Knights. Vegas trying to stay in the playoffs race (6th in Western Conference), look to reinforce their defense who have a lot of trouble lately. Johnson was about to make his return to action after missing 6 weeks, due to a concussion. In return, Quebec earn the 2019 3rd and 4th picks from Vegas. Having difficulties to stay in the playoffs race (9th in Eastern Conference), Quebec seems to be looking toward the future instead of this present season, having now 10 draft picks in the 2019 Entry Draft, of wich 4 are from the 2nd round.

images
upload_2018-12-7_13-54-51.jpeg

While Quebec look to build for the future, the Colorado Avalanche are looking for nothing else than the 2019 Stanley Cup, being actually 3rd in Western Conference. They make a strong adding to their offense by claiming Ilya Kovalchuk from Los Angeles. Kovalchuk have made a huge comeback to the NHL so far, having 52 points in 59 games (59-31-21-52). In return, they send their 2019 2nd and 2020 3rd draft picks, and their defensman Erik Johnson, who,s having a lot of trouble this season, missing more than 20 games due to an injury and having a +/- of -8, despite being in one of the best team in the NHL this season.

upload_2018-12-7_13-55-36.jpeg

Still looking to get stronger, the Colorado Avalanche later send their 2019 4th draft pick and their foward Matt Calvert to the Dallas Stars. In return, Colorado get the goaltender Kari Lehtonen. Having lost Philipp Grubauer in the expansion draft and with Semyon Varlamov who struggle lately (49-31-16-2-0.897), Colorado is looking to get a strong back-up in Lehtonen, in case if Varlamov can't get the job done during the playoffs.

In the last minutes of the trade deadline, The Quebec Nordiques announced that they're sending their prospect goaltender Sam Josefson and two of their 2nd draft pick (from Colorado & Quebec) to the Buffalo Sabres. Josefson was having a respectable first year in the AHL, showing a record of 21-12-7-2-0.917. In return, Quebec get the foward Tomas Tatar (65-10-32-42) and the 2019 4th draft pick from San Jose. With Perron and now Tatar, there's no doubt that Quebec is looking to built around their future top centerman in Joe Veleno and Travis Konecny. Expect them to continue this work during the next off-season.

After coming back from injury a week ago and helping the team win their last 3 matches, claiming 5 points during this streak, David Perron return to the infirmery. This time, Perron received a shot on his right foot and will miss the next 3 weeks, meaning he'll be out for the rest of the regular season. This news come in a bad time for Quebec, who are desperately trying to stay in the playoff race, trailing by 3 points behind the Washington Capitals and the 8th and last spot in the Eastern Conference. Quebec also have the Maple Leafs right in his back, only 1 point behind with 6 games left.

After a disapointing end of season, the Quebec Nordiques will miss the playoffs, while still having one game to play, at home. Quebec lost 4 of their 5 last games, letting easilyToronto and Washington qualify themselves. Still, Quebec go out on a positive note, beating the St-Louis Blues 5-0 in a full home arena, Konecny scoring the last goal late in the third period, this goal being his 50th in his young career.

In a roller coaster season, their at least one thing that stayed strong all along, and it's the goaltenders. Both Grubauer and Pickard played good and kept their teams in most of the matches. Quebec is also satisfied with young Laurent Brossoit, who reached a 0.921 save pourcentage.

John Carlson proved he is a true leader during the entire season, leading the team on the scoresheet and on the ice. Tyler Myers and Vince Dunn also known a good season and Quebec is truly looking foward in their case. On the other side, Josh Manson showed a disapointing season and his place on the second pair could be in danger the next season.

The young fowards in Travis Konecny, Jesper Fast and Jordan Weal showed a promised future as they put the exact numbers that we're expect from them. Unfortunately, not the same can be said about the experimented guys. Even if there's some exceptions to that (Tyler Ennis, Tomas Tatar and David Perron), a lot of older players ended the season well under what was expect from them, as Darren Helm, Partick Berglund and Carl Hagelin all knowed a disapointing season. The team failed to put some puck in the net and it cost them the playoff in the end...

Hey guys I'm new here but am a long time reader and my uncle has been using hfboards since 2007. I'm mostly into franchise stories and I enjoy reading through them. I'm just testing out but I might do a franchise story on NHL 19 using Hamilton.

Hello. Newbie here.

Everytime I try to start a franchise with custom rosters, the game freezes before the expansion draft. Anyone notice this?

I'm on Xbox.

Thanks!

BREAKING NEWS: Halfway through season Rangers are the NHL's biggest underperformer
Jan. 5th, 2021
Despite adding Brayden Schenn this offseason, bolstering an already prolific offense on paper, the Rangers cannot find the back of the net. In contrarst, their defense has been better, and their goaltending has been outstanding.

Henrik Lundqvist stands alone as the reason the team is 21-15-5 and not 15-21-5 - or worse. His .948 SV% ranks first in the league among all starting netminders.

Filip Chytil, Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad and Brayden Schenn have provided most of the offense at this point. As Lundqvist inevitably comes down to earth at his age, the Rangers will need their depth players to step up.

BREAKING NEWS: Rangers streaky heading into Trade Deadline
Feb. 26th, 2021
The Rangers have gone 7-6 in their last 13, which is the entirety of the month of February. They are going to have to be much better going forward to make the Playoffs.

They now sit 34-24-6.

Trade Deadline

mg_6761-3.jpg

The TRADECENTRE broadcast team:
Host: James Duthie
Trade Breaker Desk: Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger, Pierre LeBrun, and Gord Miller
Instant Analysis Panel: Ray Ferraro, Jeff O’Neill, Dave Poulin, Martin Biron, Pierre McGuire
Trade Bait: Craig Button
Deadline Panel: Jamie McLennan, Aaron Ward

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Duthie: Welcoming all viewers just tuning in now to the TSN Tradecentre 2021. We are getting very close to the Deadline here, and we've seen a few deals go down so far, so we'll take you right to our Deadline Panel to get you updated on thoose moves.

McLennan: Yeah, St Louis has acquired Vegas' 1st in 2022, while they've sent Travis Hamonic and two late round picks to the Knights. Edmonton also moved former first overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to the Ohiladelphia Flyers for the Flyers 2021 1st and goaltender Craig Andersen.

Ward: Montreal acquired Brandon Saad and Jan Ruutta from the Hawks earlier today for a 2nd round pick in 2021 and another in 2022. Anaheim and Calgary made a divisional trade when Anaheim sent Cam Fowler to the Flames for 2022 1st and 2nd round picks. Another big move today was made when the Blues cut ties with Jaden Schwartz and Alexander Steen when they sent them both to Buffalo for goaltending prospect Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and a 1st in this years draft (2021).

Duthie: Lots of big names moving around. Let's take you right to Craig Button with what's still left up on the board.

Button: Well James, theres alot more teams in the mix for the Playoffs than in previous years, so there aren't many sellers. Anaheim is still looking to move Corey Perry and Andrew Cogliano, while the Flames semm ready to cut ties with James Neal just 2.5 years into that huge contract signed in the summer of 2018. The Kings and Ilya Kovalchuk seem ready to divorce while Chicago has tested the waters on captain Jonathan Toews, but without much luck as they're unwilling to retain salary. That move would probably have to be made around the Draft. Detroit management and Wayne Simmonds have had a rift since he signed his deal at the start of this season, and the sides seemed to have soured on eachother. Last but certainly not least, in a shocking revelation, the New York Islanders are actively trying to find a trade partner for Mat Barzal and his $9.745M salary.

Duthie: Who could we see the Rangers be looking at?

Button: Obviously everyone, contending or not is looking into Barzal, but the Rangers can count themselves out since it's the Islanders. They are looking for depth scoring, so you could see them go after Perry or Cogliano in Anaheim, Kovalchuk or Byron in LA, Neal or Frolik in Calgary, or even David Perron and Tyler Bozak out of St. Louis.

images

McKenzie: Way to predict a trade Craig! The Rangers have just completed a deal with the LA Kings that sees Ilya Kovalchuk join them, while they send prospect Calle Sjalin, forward Michael McCarron, a 2nd round pick in this years draft and a 3rd round pick in 2022 to the Kings.

Ferraro: I like this trade for both sides. The Rangers didn't pay for what Kovalchuk was, they payed for what he is now. He's already got 20 goals this year, and theres no reason to believe he can't add anoother 5-10 playing on the more talented Rangers. For the Kings, they get two picks, a very good prospect for Sjalin and a slid depth forward in McCarron. Tim Gettinger's surprising preseason for the Rangers this year obiously made them comfortable trading McCarron.

O'Neill: I agree with your evalutation there, but to me I still think the Rangers could have done better. Instead of going for a younger guy, they took a flyer on one of the oldest rentals actively being shopped.

McGuire: I think this goes with what GM Brant King has been talking about. Kovalchuk is a veteran that brings that experience and mental toughness to the team. They're a young team in all facets other than Henrik Lundqvist. I think this maybe helps them stop being so streaky with a bit more leadership and experience in the locker room.

Poulin: Kovi's been known to be a finisher too, and that's what they need. They've got lots of guys who can make plays, they need someone on the receiving end of those to put the puck in the net. It doesn't hurt either that the Kings retained $1.250M off his salary.

Duthie: Pretty notable trade there, but were going to go to break now, when we get back, we'll continue this conversation.

2021 NHL Playoffs

In their return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs the Rangers will face the Ottawa Senators in the First Round. One of just five 100-point teams, the Sens last met the Rangers in the Playoffs back in 2017 when they shocked the hockey world en route to the Conference Finals.

In nets, the matchup comes down to Henrik Lundqvist vs the platoon of Mike Condon and Filip Gustavsson. The Sens boast very uninspiring goaltending, but their strength is outside the crease

In order to take the 7-game series over the Blue Jackets, the Rangers will not only need Henrik Lundqvist to continue this season's dominance, but they'll need to see much better performances from the likes of Kevin Hayes. Brett Howden and Ryan Strome if they want to overcome the vicious attack of the Sens which features Jordan Eberle (72 points), Ryan Dzingel (67 points), Colin White (64 points), Thomas Chabot (60 points), and EIGHT other players over 20 points.

Series Recap
Henrik Lundqvist led the way with a stellar .942 SV%, while Artemi Panarin picked up for the slack left behind by the Chytil injury with 4 goals in his absence. The Rangers knocked off the top seeded team in the East in just 5 games, a result that shocked all hockey analysts expected a long series, or even a Rangers win, but not in this fashion.

images

The last time the Rangers and the Bruins met in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Rangers were ousted in 5 games, which brought an end to the Jon Tortorella Era in New York. Since then, the Rangers have went from a force in the East, making 2 consecutive Conference Finals, to one of the worst teams in the East, finishing with the 7th and 9th overall picks in the last 2 seasons.

Tuukka Rask and Henrik Lundqvist face off in a battle of two of the East's elite goaltenders, although the Bruins have a much more intimidating defense corpse led by Charlie McAvoy, Torey Krug and Brandon Carlo.

In order for the Rangers to make it out of the Second Round, they will need Filip Chytil, currently at 0 points in 3 games, to awaken from his playoff slumber and play like he did this regular season.

Series Recap
How does a team win a series when not scoring more than 2 goals in a game once? Henrik Lundqvist, that's how. Despite scoring just 10 goals in 7 games, the Rangers managed to move on to the Conference Finals in their return to the Playoffs. The Rangers offensive showing, or lack thereof, was pathetic and they are lucky to be moving on. Their team leader in points, Artemi Panarin, has just 9 points.

images

In the Conference Finals, the two Wildcard teams face off in a showdown of the hockey shockers. Both teams had to go through the #'s 1 and 2 teams in the Metro and Atlantic Divisions, but still managed to make the Conference Finals.

Filip Chytil has just 2 points to his name through the first 10 playoff games of his career, so the Rangers really need him to lead the charge if they want their run to continue any further. The offensive output from the last series just won't cut it.

Henrik Lundqvist will need to continue to be spectacular in a matchup against other legend Roberto Luongo, or his sucessor James Reimer, whoever gets the nod.

It's Rangers versus the Stars in the 2021 Stanley Cup Finals. The Rangers barely escaped the Florida Panthers, and they won't have it any easier heading into Dallas. The Stars finished 2nd in the League, just 2 points behind the first place Hurricanes. They boasted the leagues most potent offense, scoring 3.38 GPG, a full 0.48 above the 2nd place team in that category. The Stars are almost certainly salivating at the mismatch that is their offense against the Rangers inconsistent defense.

The Rangers get Lias Andersson back for the Finals, but still miss deadline pickup Ilya Kovalchuk, out with a fractured ankle. Along with Andersson returning, the Rangers will need to get more help from their top centerman Filip Chytil, who has just 8 points in 17 games.

Dallas trampled their way through the postseason, easily dispatching of the Preds and Avs before narrowly squeaking by the Knights. That comes as no surprise though, as they rode their big line of Seguin, Benn and Radulov along with depth scoring of Vanek, Thornton, Denis Gurianov and Valeri Nichushkin to the annihilation of their opponents.

Series Recap
For the first time since 1994, the New York Rangers are Stanley Cup Champions! They suffered heartbreak in 2014, but Kreider, Staal, and Lundqvist, the only three remaining players from that team, have finally won the Stanley Cup.

Henrik Lundqvist, deservedly so, took home the Conn Smythe, after posting 5 shutouts and a .937 SV% throughout the Playoffs. Those stats are trumped by the even more incredible 2 shutouts and .990 SV% Lundqvist posted in Game 7's throughout these sacred Playoffs.

Artemi Panarin and Pavel Buchnevich tied for the team lead in points with 18, while Kreider's 14 (10 goals) placed third.

The Rangers attention now turns to the Offseason, where they have their biggest to do list in years.

I started a Wings BAGM.

In the year 1 draft, I drafted Kappo Kakko and THREE Franchise Goalies.

They've really gotta tone down the goalies potentials lmao. I'm pretty much guaranteed to succeed because I can trade 2 of those full value goalies for anyone in the league.

Kakko - McDavid - Zadina anyone?

RESIGN PHASE
The Nordiques entered the resign phase with 15 M$ to utilize, with a lot of players already signed for the future, meaning there's gonna be a lot to use for the free agency.

The Nordiques allowed forward Carl Hagelin to walk to Free Agency, having known a difficult season this year with 23 points in 82 games.

UFA goaltender Calvin Pickard, forward Travis Morin and AHL defensman Jakub Jerabek all chose to test the free agency this summer.

FREE AGENCY

The pool is pretty deep this year, having players like Blake Wheeler, Max Pacioretty, Joe Pavelski and Jeff Skinner figuring in it. The Quebec Nordiques jump into free agency with 13 M$ to utilize. With Joe Veleno who will probably stay in AHL next year to continu his development (have been in CHL last year), Quebec hardly need someone who can play as a first center before Veleno join the team. Sure, Travis Konecny knew a good season last year, but he is not consider as a first center by the team and will likely found his place as the second center. Also, after having difficulties to put some goals last season, a second top 6 foward will defenitely not hurt them.

With that being said, Quebec wasted no time by signing their first player, forward Jakob Silfverberg (RW-83), who come out of a strong season with Anaheim with 52 points (77-22-30-52). Silfverberg, who's expect to elevate again his production, will earn 5,1 M$ for the next 4 years.
images
View attachment 163737
A couple days later, Quebec strike again, this time by signing a center who will surely bring some numbers in Logan Couture. Couture, who recently won the Stanley Cup with San Jose, will surely bring some leadership in the team, while being a true model for younger players like Jesper Fast, Travis Konecny, James Weal and Joe Veleno. Couture, 39 years-old, will earn 17,5M$ for the next 6 years and will mostly take the first line this year, and maybe drop to the second line in a couple years when Veleno or Konecny will be ready to lead the team.

In the end of free agency, Quebec will also announce the signing of defenseman Andy Welinski (D-75), and fowards Kenny Agostino (LW-72) and Michael Chaput (C-75) to bring some power to the AHL club.

The biggest name in free agency, Blake Wheeler signed a 6 years deal with the New Jersey Devils, value of 7,36M$ per year.

Ottawa have been one of the three most active teams during free agency. First, they've been able to re-sign centerman Matt Duchene to a 6 years deal, 6 M$ per year. Ottawa also bring the forward Jeff Skinner to his side, offering him a 5 years contract of 5,95M$ per years.

The Vegas Golden Knights have also being active, signing forwards Jordan Eberle and Marcus Johansson. Eberle will earn 6M$ for the next 7 years, while Johansson will claim 5 M$ for the next 5 years.

The main reason of the signing of both forwards by Vegas is mainly due to the lost of forward Max Pacioretty. Pacioretty, who's coming out of a strong season of 39 goals and 81 points, will join the Arizona Coyotes for the next year, earning 6,37M$.

The other most active team was the Montreal Canadiens who signed both Mats Zuccarello and Derick Brassard. Zuccarello will earn 5,35M$ for the next year, while Brassard will claim 5,25M$ for the next 5 years.

Forward Joe Pavelski, winner of the 2019 Stanley Cup with the Sharks, will now join the Chicago Blackhawks for the 2019-2020 season, signing a deal of 5,62M$.

While the 2019 free agency was strong in forwards, their have been some interesting goaltender available. First, Cam Talbot join Buffalo for the next 3 years, with a contract of 3,82M$ per year. Philadelphia signed Mike Smith for the 2019-2020 season with a deal of 3,57M$. The Colorado Avalanche re-sign Kari Lehtonen, who they got at the trade deadline last season, offering him a 2 years contract of 3,68M$. Finally, former Quebec Nordiques goaltender, Calvin Pickard, will join the olumbus Blue Jackets for the 2019-2020 season, earning 1,52M$.

Did they do something to this game mode? When the game came out it wasn't like this; Now after like 10 years every team has INSANE and i mean INSANE amount of super duper elite talent. Like the game is pretty much ruined if you do any scouting by yourself because you'll get elite players in every draft, no matter where you pick. Plus the ridiculous value of elite and franchise goalies, you can just pick one or two every draft and trade them for early first round picks or whatever you want.

Season Preview

Henrik Lundqvist returns to man the crease for the Rangers in their quest to Repeat as Cup Champions. After an impeccable preseason performance from Alexandar Georgiev, the Rangers elected to start the season with three goalies, as they knew neither Georgiev nor Subban would pass through waivers. Subban also struggled in the preseason so it's a serious question who's going to be the backup this year.

images
images

With the departures of Kevin Shattenkirk and Slater Koekkoek, the Rangers had some holes to fill on the blueline. Those spots were always Joey Keane's and Libor Hajek's to take, but it's worth noting that Nils Lundkvist really impressed in the preseason before heading to the minors. Returning are Brady Skjei, Tony DeAngelo, Bowen Byram and Ryan Lindgren. Chris Bigras has also made the opening night roster as 7th Dman.

Bowen Byram's progression will be the biggest question mark on D. They rookie really struggled last season, but is being given a chance to start the season in a top pair role alongside Brady Skjei, whom he could succeed as the teams #1 D man in the future.

images
images

After signing their new deals, Filip Chytil and Pavel Buchnevich must live up to the heightened expectations that are going to come with being 2 of the 3 highest paid players on the team. They return, along with the Cup Winning Cast of Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin, Brayden Schenn, Lias Andersson, Brett Howden, Kevin Hayes, Jimmy Vesey and Adam Erne.

After an incredible preseason in which he led the team with 6 points in 7 games, Ryan Suzuki made the roster out of the gates, starting in a 3rd line role with Lias Andersson and Kevin Hayes. He may not stick around for long, but it's worth keeping an eye on. Ty Ronning also made the team as the designated depth forward.

Kevin Hayes' season will be a major talking point for the Rangers. The 29-year old is being paid $5.500M for another 3 years after signing his 5-year extension in the first summer of Brant King's tenure as GM. If Hayes can rebound from his 19 point year last year, the Rangers should be in good shape...if not, this could be a very costly extension that will haunt them.

BREAKING NEWS: Kevin Hayes added to Rangers leadership group
Oct. 1st, 2021
With the departure of Kevin Shattenkirk, who held an "A" for just one season, Kevin Hayes picks up the torch. His future with the Rangers is uncertain, after having subpar seasons in 2 of the last 3 years, but he is one of the longest tenured Rangers.

Chris Kreider is still team captain, while Mika Zibanejad retains his "A".

BREAKING NEWS: GM Brant King holds Press Conference
Dec. 23rd, 2021
This one is going to be a doozy:

GM Brant King
This is inexcusable. Obviously no ones happy with where the season's at right now, and it doesn't look like were going to be happy with the way it ends. We are already well behind the 8 ball, and it's very late to be getting going. After winning the Cup last year I was prepared to let the team work out the kinks, but no more. I promise you, we will be re-evaluating every player on this team iver the next 4 games as we hit a monumental point in our season with 4 straight games against Divisional Rivals. The New Year is coming, and you know what they say: New Year, New Team. That is all.

images
images
BREAKING NEWS: Rangers and Blackhawks complete Blockbuster
Jan. 11th, 2022
The Rangers are poised to get a top pick and miss the Playoffs just one season after winning it all, but that didn't stop Brant King from going out and shaking things up. In a shocking move, the Rangers sent Brett Howden, Malcolm Subban, their 2023 1st, this years 2nd rounder. and a 3rd in 2024 to the Blackhawks for Jonathan Toews and Alexis Gravel.

For the Hawks, they get Howden, a player the same mold of Jonathan Toews, but obviously not as talented. They also receive a backup goalie they haven't had in a few years in Malcolm Subban. The reouperation of Draft picks was just as important for them as they enter a Rebuilding Phase after years of contending.

For the Rangers, the shakeup Brant King promised has come. Toews, one of the best captains in todays game, comes over and brings leadership and a calm demeanor to a very young team aside from Henrik Lundqvist. The Rangers are giving the backup reigns to Alexandar Georgiev, while Alexis Gravel will start in the minors.

The Blackhawks retained $3.500M of Toews' salary.

Trade Deadline

mg_6761-3.jpg

The TRADECENTRE broadcast team:
Host: James Duthie
Trade Breaker Desk: Bob McKenzie, Darren Dreger, Pierre LeBrun, and Gord Miller
Instant Analysis Panel: Ray Ferraro, Jeff O’Neill, Dave Poulin, Martin Biron, Pierre McGuire
Trade Bait: Craig Button
Deadline Panel: Jamie McLennan, Aaron Ward

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Duthie: The 2022 Trade Deadline has come and gone, so we here on TSN are going to give you a recap of what went down. The Rangers were very busy, but the defending champs were selling instead of buying in a shocking turn of events. Here are our TSN Trade Breakers bringing you every one of their deals today

images
images

McKenzie: First, the Rangers ad Hurricanes orchestrated an odd inter divisional trade. The Rangers, who have really noticed the lack of a Top 4 RHD after Kevin Shattenkirk left via Free Agency, acquired Justin Faulk from the Carolina Hurricanes for Brayden Schenn and their 31st overall pick in the Draft Mark Brookbank. The Rangers also received forward Peyton Krebs in the deal.

images
images

Miller: Longtime Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad has been dealt to the St. Louis Blues for forward Klim Kostin, goaltender Ville Husso, a 4th round pick in 2023 and a 1st round pick in the upcoming Entry Draft. Zibanejad was a UFA at seasons end, and the Rangers weren't keen on extending him long term with Chytil's huge contract on the books and the emergence of Lias Andersson as a solid #2 option.

images
images

In a separate deal witht eh New Jersey Devils, the Rangers sent forward Adam Erne and a 4th round pick to the Devils for former 6th overall pick Pavel Zacha. It's pretty clear Zacha isn't becoming what New Jersey thought he would, but the Rangers will see what they can salvage.

images
images

Dreger: In a shocking deal, the Rangers traded Brady Skjei, their 1st round pick in 2012, to the Vancouver Canucks for forward Aleksi Heponiemi and a 1st round pick in this years Draft. Heponiemi has a 2-year extension already signed, which he will now play with the Rangers. The Rangers now own 3-1st Round picks in the upcoming Draft.

images
images

LeBrun: The Rangers have been shopping Kevin Hayes for some time now, and finally found a taker in full for his contract. The forward struggled one year, and was then surpassed ont he center depth chart by Lias Andersson and Filip Chytil. He never got back to the level expected of him in New York. He'll have the chance to do that in Detroit after the Red Wings traded promising prospect Jonatan Berggren for him.

images

The Rangers also traded forward Jimmy Vesey to the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Kyle Wood and a 3rd round pick in the upcoming Entry Draft.

images
images

McKenzie: In their last move of the day, the Rangers traded pending UFA Tony DeAngelo and a 4th round pick to the Florida Panthers for pending UFA Connor Murphy and a 3rd round pick. The Rangers grew unhappy with Tony DeAngelo's offensive output after he was expected to break out with Kevin Shattenkirk handing him #1 PP minutes, but it did not happen. Connor Murphy brings more of a defensive look to the blue line, something the Rangers feel they've lacked so far this year.

McLennan: I'd like to say, the Rangers have lined themselves up very nicely to make a move on a major UFA this summer with the Cap Space they've created. They've also sent Ryan Suzuki to the minors.

Ward: GMBK said changes were going to be made, but this was unexpected. The Rangers completed a makeover it would take most front offices 2 years to complete in just 1 day. The Rangers got younger up front, but got better on the back end in my opinion.

O'Neill: I think you're going to see the Rangers record really improve post deadline. It's too bad since they were lined up for a very favorable Draft pick, but it shows Brant King feels his team can turn it around with a new look roster next season.

Duthie: It will be very interesting to see. That's all we have for you on this segment, we'll see you during the Free Agent Frenzy!

BREAKING NEWS: Rumors swirl that GM Brant King is in hot water with NYR Performance
NHL Offseason News
Missing the Playoffs the season after winning the Cup is never a good thing, but when you're the New York Rangers, everything is scrutinized 10x more. That has left the seat of GMBK "red-hot" as descirbed by TSN.

King did not stand pat at the Trade Deadline, as he shook things up big time, so nothing less should be expected of him this offseason.

BREAKING NEWS: Alexander Ovechkin among Summers Retiree's
NHL Offseason News
Alexander Ovechkin retires after playing the final two seasons of his contract with the San Jose Sharks. The best pure goal scorer of all time finished with 798 career goals, good for 3rd all time, and 1436 points, good for 17th all time.

Other members of the 1000 games club to retire include: Dustin Brown (1360), Brent Seabrook (1309), Dion Phaneuf (1226), Dan Hamhuis (1195), Jeff Carter (1116), Niklas Kronwall (1116) and David Krejci (1056).

Former NYR players who retired are G Al Montoya, D Nick Holden, forwards Chris Bourque and Chris Mueller.

Goaltender Ryan Miller announced his retirement from the game of hockey after parts of 17 NHL seasons. He had 399 wins and a career SV% of .914 in 808 appearances.

NHL Entry Draft

BREAKING NEWS: Rangers select forward Gage Hendry 4th Overall
NHL Entry Draft
The Rangers highest selection since they selected Pavel Brendl 4th overall in 1999, Gage Hendry has been deemed one of the best all-around, NHL ready players in the Draft this year. Craig Button of TSN had this to say:

Gage is a talented two-way forward, in the way Patrice Bergeron is. Hendry has the ability to be a go-to power play and a go-to penalty kill guy, a rare breed of hockey player. The Rangers got a really good player at 4th overall, and I have no doubt their fan base will underappreciate him as they did Derek Stepan. Don't take that as a direct comparison either, this guy is going to be better than the guy Rangers fans referred to as Step.

The 18-year old recorded 43 goals and 45 assists for 88 points in 68 games for the Drummondville Voltageurs of the QMJHL.

BREAKING NEWS: Rangers acquire Korpisalo from Jackets in exhange for 24th pick
NHL Entry Draft
Henrk Lundqvist is now 40, and cannot handle the wear and tear of playing 60 games if the Rangers want him to be fresh for the Playoffs, so they went out and acquired Joonas Korpisalo from the Jackets. After Columbus signed Sergei Bobrovsky long-term, Korpisalo had been stuck in the backup role for the last few seasons. In New York, he'll get the chance to split starts with one of the best to ever play the game.

BREAKING NEWS: TSN thinks Gysbers could be future Hank replacement
NHL Entry Draft
In a Draft segment about the New York Rangers, goaltenders Martin Biron and Jamie McLennan seemed to think that 5th round pick Lance Gysbers could be the heir to the Kings throne.

Biron: I really like this pick for the Rangers. Gysbers fell a bit late after his last few starts went awry, but the Rangers need to take risks. They found Lundqvist in the 7th round, so why can't this be their next great find.?
McLennan: If you think about it, the Rangers could have set themselves up very nicely. They just acquired Korpisalo, who can bridge the gap between Lundqvist, the best goaltender in Franchise history, and Gysbers, their next elite goaltender. As long as he provides league average goaltending, they should be fine.

Resign Phase

images
images

With upwards of $20M in Cap Space, the Rangers deadline purge lined them up very nicely for their somewhat easy offseason. They have four key players to resign, and some decisions to make on depth forwards.

RFA defensemen Libor Hajek and Joey Keane both need new deals. Hajek was a pleasant surprise in his rookie season, and now the Rangers have a choice to sign him in the short-term with a bridge contract, or go long-term. Meanwhile, Keane struggled in the first half, but excelled in the second half, leaving the Rangers with a risky choice between the same two options. RFA forward Pavel Zacha, acquired at the Trade Deadline, should be an easy enough deal. Franchise goaltender is a UFA and will sign a 1-year deal to remain with the club, as he has expressed a desire to play his whole career in NY.

BREAKING NEWS: Rangers take flyers on Goldobin, Kamenev in Free Agency
July 1st, 2022
Instead of breaking the bank for John Klingberg, the Rangers elected to roll with their revamped psot-deadline defense, while blstering their forward depth. The Rangers have rolled with a star studded offense the last few years, but it failed to produce like star studded offense should. They seem to be trending towards youth, depth, and speed.

Goldobin just enjoyed a very successful season with the resurgent Vancouver Canucks, who lost in the Western Conference Finals.

Vlad Kamenev has not played in the NHL for 2 years, but previously showed promise as a prospect in the Nashville Predators system and as a depth forward on the Colorado Avalanche.

NHL gives Hamilton the green light to submit an application for expansion

The league is working on adding a 32nd team into the mix
December 7, 2016

- The NHL has officially allowed the city of Hamilton, Ontario to submit an application for an NHL expansion team, according to league commissioner Gary Bettman. Today Bettman and the NHL Board of Governors gave Hamilton the green light to start the application process. The expansion fee for Hamilton is set at $650 million (U.S. Dollars), and an additional $325 million dollars each to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres franchise's for territorial fees, making it for a grand total of $1.3 Billion dollars. Previously, the city of Las Vegas paid $500 million for the Golden Knights expansion team that will take the ice for the first time next season.

In October, the Hamilton city council approved a $650 million dollar plan for a new NHL arena to replace the 31 year old Copps Coliseum/FirstOntario Center. The arena plans will seat up to 18,515 capacity, atrium-style entrance lobby, over 60 luxury suites and boxes, lounges, restaurants and a state-of-the art video scoreboard. The plan also calls for a $175 million dollar adjacent practice facility that will serve as NHL Hamilton's team headquarters. The practice facility will feature 4 rinks with up to a 1,000 seating for each rink. It will also feature a state-of- art gym, recovery rooms, offices and meeting rooms for the players and staff. Just last week the NHL allowed the city of Hamilton to conduct a season ticket drive to test the market. Not that the NHL doesn't already know that Southern Ontario/Hamilton is a potential hockey goldmine, as a recent study by league and city officials have already determined that a Hamilton franchise could potentially be in the top 5 in the NHL for market and revenue earnings. But apparently sources close to the league were concerned over previous failed expansion tries for the city of Hamilton, but just like in 1990 and 2009 the ticket drive were an incredibly huge success. In only 24 hours Hamilton took deposits on 15,000 tickets and another 6,000 were placed on a waiting list. The excitement with NHL fever for Hamiltonians was absolutely crazy and overwhelming. With unexpectedly long ticket waiting lines that wrapped around building and stretched through downtown Hamilton. With everything ready to go it looks like right now Hamilton is a clear front-runner to land the 32nd franchise but there's still Seattle, Quebec City, Houston, and Kansas City that have also placed expansion bids. The 32nd team will start play in the 2018-2019 season.

The Hamilton expansion bid is being backed by Burlington, Ontario billionaire businessman Angelo Paletta. The 35-year old (1981 born)Angelo Paletta could become the youngest owner in the NHL if approved. He is the head of Paletta International Corporation. It is a private and family run company with many properties and buildings throughout Greater Toronto area and beyond. The company has many interests including food processing, agri-service, real estate, construction, entertainment, and property development. Angelo Paletta and his family has been quietly pursuing an NHL franchise for Hamilton for a long-time now and it has always been his dream to do what Ron Joyce, Jim Balsillie, & others have tried but failed to do in the past. And that is to bring an NHL franchise to Hamilton, Ontario for the first time since 1926. ----TO BE CONTINUED-

BREAKING NEWS: Ryan Groopp signs Offer Sheet with Capitals
Offseason Notes
The Rangers 2015 2nd Round pick never played a game for the Rangers, but will now join Division rivals the Washington Capitals.

Based on the low salary, the Rangers received no compensation.

Season Preview

images
images

Henrik Lundqvist returns in what will likely be the curtain call on his illustrious career. He'll get his fair share of games, but the Rangers brought in Joonas Korpisalo over the summer to take some pressure off of the King, who will undoubtedly be at the top of his game in his quest for a 2nd Cup.

images
images

Justin Faulk, Libor Hajek, Ryan Lindgren, Joey Keane and Bowen Byram return for the Rangers, joined by Nils Lundkvist. Byram, the Rangers 7th overall pick in 2019, will be under intense scrutiny in the final year of his ELC after struggling defensively over the first two years. Nils Lundkvist, the Rangers 29th overall pick in 2018, finally makes his NHL debut this season.

images

The Rangers come into the season with the potential to have a very powerful offense. Injected with youthful Trade Deadline acquisitions Peyton Krebs, Klim Kostin and Aleksi Heponiemi; and flooded with Draft Picks Ryan Suzuki, Gage Hendry and Alexander Prokhorkin. Along with them; Artemi Panarin, Pavel BUchnevich, Filip Chytil, Jonathan Toews, Lias Andersson and Chris Kreider return. Free Agent signing Nikolay Goldobin and Pavel Zacha start the season as depth forwards.
