Who's situation in leaving the Canucks (Ufa, trade) makes Benning look the most foolish?

My favorite NHL player of this century. Very disappointing.
This isn't in any way an excuse for this kind of behaviour but that kind of absolutely irrational decision making, makes me wonder if his head injuries still affect his brain? Even if he is a terrible human who doesn't seem to believe in consent, why would he not think he would get caught? Just unbelievable.

Brendan Morrison allegedly identiied as part of Willie's "douche crew" behaving "inappropriately" towards young women on evening in question.
Reliving the glory days.

He was one of my favorites. But if this is true and it looks likely, he needs to go away for a long time. Sucks for the victims, sucks for his family.
Hes gonna pay his way out of it I bet. Cant blame the victim, get justice or a massive settlement, I know what I would choose myself.

If you clear out a bar full of well-heeled drunks at midnight in minutes flat and get a multi-day event cancelled, I don't think you can buy your way out of whatever you did. It sounds like whatever happened, a lot of people saw it.

Also, Mitchell isn't being tried and convicted on social media/the internet. Rumours suggest he was arrested by real cops with probable cause for something that happened minutes earlier. If Mitchell is eventually charged the accusations we've seen are no different than accusations that presumably will be made in a public forum, in more detail, and by people more intimately involved.

Was he in fact arrested?

If he was actually arrested, surely there would have been an RCMP press release/media coverage etc?

But yes, there is a massive amount of smoke here and it sounds like there are witnesses.

Arrests don't necessarily need to be made public in Canada. They are immediately entered into a database but the RCMP can limit who sees them at their discretion and it is usually available only to other law enforcement bodies such as courts and border agencies. In this case I believe the RCMP said they will release no information about their investigation until and only if charges are laid. When someone is arrested it's often their camp that releases the news to get ahead of it, and the fact that they are free to do this is why the RCMP's reticence isn't a big deal to most people -- the arrested party can talk about the injustice of their detention to their heart's content. If the rumours are accurate, there's not much he can say and his wife may well have nothing to say about the situation.

I instinctively feel the media thing doesn't line up either. I'm out of my depth on this one. It does seem unusual. However, when I imagine myself as a reporter on the ground trying to cover this story, what am I covering and who am I talking to? The resort is closed, no one from that circle is saying anything, and the people who may know what happened and be willing to talk are probably mostly young, transient townies. Does CHEK want to run a segment on a story this important that consists of nothing but young people with no permanent address getting interviewed, with nothing from the RCMP? And nothing from anyone in a tie with a bookcase or a desktop computer behind them? No one like that is going near this yet.

EDIT: I also don't watch broadcast television anymore. Have TV stations not even mentioned that the derby was cancelled and the resort shut down due to inappropriate behaviour?

The one that didn't surprise me was Evander Kane. Was never my teammate but we attended a couple camps together. Most arrogant 15 year old I've ever met. My buddy peed on his skates because he was THAT unbearable.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I always find it interesting that posters would mention things like this as if the buddy of yours isn't the real a**hole in this story. It's funny in movies when it happens to the bonehead muscle bound bully though.

We don't know. Locals said so to friends via text but no one knows what they saw or whether they interpreted it correctly.

Stories like this, and the Kane and Virtanen stories, and the thousands of others we have heard, make me think about other stories we hear about the opposite kind of people who sometimes are so talented they make major junior of even professional leagues despite not fitting in. The ones that get hazed, ostracized, or attacked by someone like Steve Downie. That's kind of what hazing is for, I guess. When you do it to someone it's a test. When they find it acceptable and do it to others they've passed. There are all kinds of other personalities playing pro hockey in some proportion, of course, but man -- I've always felt I'd rather not meet most NHL players and every story like this reinforces that. That mean, small-town-Ontario type who can casually recount a number times they enjoyed beating someone up and thinks they've made good when they have a hot wife and belong to a country club, or own some generic fancy restaurant that has prices without decimals. Again, I know a lot of them probably aren't like this, but when you see a bunch of them in a group you just get that vibe.

If he's actually charged with something it'll show up on the public BC court services website eventually.

Have fun and search people you know.

Heard they seized WM boat as part of the investigation. Probably for DNA testing as the gal (allegedly a staff member) allegedly emerged after going there fu##ed up on whatever she was on saying she was S. Assaulted.

Hopefully the truth is revealed and Hamhuis apparently had zero involvement for those wondering.

I am actually really shocked by this, Willie never struck me as that kinda person. He always seemed to affable, professional and almost Benedictine in his mannerisms. But as someone else posted, PR delivers a persona, or helps build one.

I am just so disappointed.

Well, Willie did tell the story of how he and his teammates would put Gillis' "sleep bracelets" on a rookie and go out for a beer and has been pretty outspoken on twitter. This has zero correlation to propensity to commit sexual assault of course.

There’s a picture of what looks like him being escorted into a police cruiser floating around on reddit. No cuffs and it is alleged that he was taken for questioning. Looks recent and valid but it’s just a Randoms smartphone shot so I won’t link it. Not hard to find though.

Rich people in general, especially those who are from humble roots, are often like this. Extra entitled...

The media can only "insinuate" currently. Id imagine news outlets were updated on the current libel/slander laws by the crisis management team hired before this became public.

Probably better to not really say much until something more concrete becomes available. Acknowledge that you are aware of the situation and are following up, but won't report anything until you have confirmed information.

Reminds me of an episode of the Newsroom where they were reporting on a shooting. Another media outlet reported a Congresswoman as being Dead, but the ACN network EP and Anchor were not going to run that report without confirmation.

We probably won't hear much of anything until charges are either laid or not laid.

I’m confused by the here reactions to Johnson’s article. Points out what we know and interviewed a few people connected to what happened. Was unable to get anyone to speak and RCMP aren’t commenting unless there’s charges.
Exactly. They're pretty limited on what they can say, PJ is getting creative and talking to people on the periphery to touch on the story without crossing into potentially libelous territory.
