Yeah, he could have been offered $4.5 million per season and it would have been for 2-4 years somewhere with possible midseason/deadline trade. He has more money than that in his pocket now, whatever happens.
It isn't a crazy deal. He returns to the BlueJackets and will be a veteran presence for the rebuilt squad.

What I'm saying is that in early contract talks Kris Russell was looking for a five year, $27.5 million dollar contract. He's overrated but he's going to get at least $4 million on the open market. $2.5 per season is LESS than he is currently making and for seven freaking years? Ridiculous.
