Yeah the Kane brand-building in Winnipeg didn't go well... But the media here were very quick to pile on him as well - Lawless led that charge, IIRC. I mean, you hear the kind of shit that the media politely and obediently sweeps under the rug when it comes to coaches or some players, but this brash 21-year old gets zero benefit of the doubt? I mean, yes, the guy is a me-first douche, and he committed the cardinal sin of hating Winnipeg, so Winnipeg hates him back, but he didn't get a totally fair shake here.

What an odd title of that video. He didn't clarify anything. Even if it wasn't a tracksuit as he claims and just regular clothes, why did it end up in the shower?

pretty much anybody going in to any community with the idea that they are to big-time for said community is going to enjoy a less then perfect stay. Multiply the effect when your performance is wildly eclipsed by your self conceived big-time superstar "Brand" and you have Kane. The brand he built was one of a conceited asshole and he got treated as such. I also think Wpg gave that guy more of a fair shake then he deserved or earned. As did buffalo. He should hire someone to build his brand and actually listen to them, especially if their ideas appose his own.

A narcissist and always playing as the victim.
I believe the first time I used the term 'narcissistic personality' to describe him, years ago, my post got deleted . Now he basically describes it himself. Phrases like, ' ...grow my brand.... (every player) likes the spotlight... sent me over the edge....', tell the story of an attention-craving personality who didn't get what he wanted, isolation, narcissistic injury and ultimate blowup. Classic.
Winnipeg was not too hard on Kane--he brought it all on himself. And for someone like him, there is always the opportunity for redemption. We have been more than willing to forgive our hockey stars for their personal flaws when they show a little love for the city. But Kane continues to make it all about himself.

Ya, no.

The fans and city were ready and willing to embrace Kane. All he had to do was not be a loser. He failed.

I want more clarification on all the restaurant, bar, traffic violation, and gambling tabs that he's tried to skip out on.

This ***** actually had to have his salary garnished ( while getting paid $4,500,000 ) to cover a $650 traffic ticket. He said he just forgot to pay it. BS. Before you get your wages garnished you do get a few warnings. Just like he's forgetting to pay a casino $500,000.

I see we’re white knighting the guy who chokes women in strip club parking lots again. This is AIH’s schtick.

Sure Kane brought a lot of criticism on himself with his "brand" of being an unlikable, arrogant egomaniac, but it's strange how quickly things turned on him. The situation here was part of it - there was just so much attention and interest in the Jets in the first few years. But the media has shown that they're eager to comply with covering up embarassing (and abusive, and illegal) news. Kane never got that kind of treatment here.

I believe you have your chronology mixed up. Kane had been in Winnipeg a month - had the first game even been played yet? - when the story about him skipping out on a restaurant bill came out on social media and the sports media ran with it. The choking incident wasn't until years later after he was traded. Or are you saying the media here was so astute and prescient that they just knew Kane would be choking women in the parking lot of a strip club one day. I mean, he seemed to think he was all that and too big for Winnipeg, so that's the next logical step down that path... :sarcasm:

He didn't really clarify shit. I mean, he did for the host because their research was trash, but he basically corroborated what was reported. Even the 'not-a-tracksuit' part was reported at the time, but the memes were already made.

The only real new info here was exactly why he ended up at the rink not in a suit, in which didn't say he didn't break a team rule, just that it was somehow his parents' fault.

The Winnipeg media certainly gave him the gears--primarily Lawless, though I now wonder if his then-offensive-to-me coverage was influenced by things he knew, but couldn't report; namely Kane asking for trades out every year--but the person to break the tracksuit story was Chris Johnson, a Toronto guy.

At least he's dropped the bullshit about Winnipeg not being diverse enough for him.

Maybe he did. :dunno:

I don't know why he feels the need to revisit this every couple of years.

Simply put his reputation was largely built on his actions away from the rink. It's all well and good to want to build a brand but he seemingly doesn't realize that your brand is your character and how you carry yourself impacts it.

He was in a blue collar market and seemed to put more emphasis on living the high life then he did on his job. It's not surprising that there was a disconnect.

He really needs to move on, most Jets fans have.
