Evander Kane "clarifies" tracksuit incident?

I think the entire Winnipeg and Evander Kane thing is done and everything has been said at some point. I don't think there was a need for this interview and it's not like something unknown came out of it. Unnecessary for both sides but whatever.

But other than that I actually do believe that Evander Kane has changed a little bit and is a different person right now in his life playing for the San Jose Sharks. Even he at some point must have understood, that he needs to adapt a bit more to the NHL lifestyle and what people expect from him and what people don't want to see him doing or saying or else his NHL career would not hold on to be as long and lucrative as he would like it to be. Is he still a overconfident cocky guy? Probably. Is he still a problem for the team around him trying to be an actual "Team" in like "There is no 'I' in Team" - I don't think so. So after all, you could say everything turned out well for both sides. The Jets can be happy with how they moved on from him and he can be happy about having adapted and majored to the NHL player he needed to become in order to have the career he's looking for. Playing in California must help him quite a bit as well. I know, it's not a popular opinion but as an outsider having watched his years in Winnipeg, I'd always say that Winnipeg as a surrounding for Evander Kane at that point in his life is also to blame. Especially Chevy... why would you hold on to him for multiple years and ignore the growing problems around him, when the guy openly asks for a trade every summer?

I just want to provide some context to that $500,000 gambling debt, because I don't think it really shows just how much insane action he had to be putting into play to rack up that much debt.

Even the worst 'typical' blackjack player using the standard sub-standard strategy would be playing only at about a 2% disadvantage. Which means that to lose $500,000, on average, that means he'd have to have made $X in total bets, where 2% of X is 500k.

That's a total of TWENTY FIVE MILLION dollars in bets, on average, to lose $500k playing blackjack even as bad as Kane does.

This was all in one night between playoff games, so he can't have been at it too long. 8 hours, max? And when you're playing with an entourage and slowing down and showboating and revelling in the limelight, you're looking at 60 hands an hour MAX.

That would be an average bet of about $50,000 **a hand** over EIGHT HOURS with normal luck. Bad luck? Fine, 25k a hand? 20k at the worst. He could also have floated the loan and spent more money on overpriced booze for his entourage, but floating a loan for half a million to treat a bunch of professional hangers-on ain't much better.

So yeah, whichever way this panned out, it happened at *one unsupervised night* in Vegas, like, the only night he could squeeze some trouble in. And by God, he went cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

Like I'm no psychologist, I can only tell you what the numbers say. And they spell "DEGENERATE".

So yeah, pardon me for being inclined to think it's more a "Kane thing" than a "Winnipeg thing".

when EK was here he would routinely go to the Shark Club to gamble a bit after games and he would generally lose about $10,000 per visit and it never took long. He would also piss off the other guys at the table for playing erratic

I don’t gamble but I assume there is a conduct expected from others at a table for when to take cards and not. All I know is the guy REALLY sucked at Gambling.

I think he should be admired for contributing so much to arena improvements. Perhaps honour him by naming a food kiosk after him. The Evander Kane Hot Dog Stand has a ring to it.

That's a pretty serious accusation by calling him a thief. What did he steal? was he charged? I don't like him but no bar or establishment in Winnipeg has come forward to say he walked out with out paying.

There are plenty of incidents where he skipped out on a bill. Called it what you like, at the end of the day it’s stealing.

I'll say this to anyone who wants to "defend" Kane and say it was "the Winnipeg Media's fault".....

It was his teammates that washed his clothes. Not some reporter...Not some web rumour monger.

That doesn't happen if you are a respected well liked player who screwed up a couple of times.
That is a clear message from your peers. It very much says. "YOU ARE NOT ONE OF US".

I think the guys in the room forced Chevy to pull the trigger. That means The C the A's, Buff, Blake, everyone. Guys who were on the team in Atlanta....Guys who hadn't met him until he got there....All the guys we love and feel good about having on the team....They made that statement, and then made sure the press knew.....That says a lot.

The fact that he scored 30 in his draft +2 season and couldn't replicate it for years, let alone eclipse it made the Jets--rightfully--reticent to trade him at a depressed value (yes, I know his rates were similar, but they should've been improving at that point in his career anyway).

And if they'd traded him in the first off-season it would have sent incredibly mixed signals to Winnipeggers. Yes, many of us were just happy to have a team back, but he was the closest sniff at a superstar and a trade like that would've given so many of us flashbacks to the Selanne trade. Many here would've just taken it as a signal that nothing has changed and that Winnipeg can't afford star players. Some may have taken a step back from the team.

He might've been happier here if he wasn't tithing his salary back to his employer.

He really does not sound like an intelligent human being. Gonna be broke 5 years max after retiring.
Just look at the lawsuits against him
$3 Million from this woman.
Evander Kane Denies Owing Woman $3 Million for Aborting His Baby
#1/2 Million from Vega casino
Evander Kane is being sued by a Las Vegas casino that claims the 28-year-old failed to pay back $500,000 in gambling markers

He is lucky Roger Goodell does not run the league ... he would be banned for life.

Not just his teammates in Winnipeg either. He had a similar incident in Atlanta where his track suit bottoms were cut into shorts by his Thrasher Teammates.

To GJF’s point I think he has possibly been less problematic in San Jose but he still has his moments (all be it milder) and I really didn’t see the point for the interview?

Yes you are right especially if you are sitting in the anchor spot , the last spot before the dealer . If you are staying on stupid numbers like 15 or 14 and don't take a card then the dealer gets it and they might get a good hand because you didn't take a card . Even if it busts you it might make the dealer bust for everyone else at the table . You can see there is no way someone as me first as Kane would play like that and the rest of the table would be PISSED . Too much stress for me man .

I bet it was Sipowicz! He’s the reason Kane did not feel comfortable in Winnipeg. Sip, what did you say to him at the coffee shop?!

Not conduct per say, but when playing Blackjack for money, you are expected to at least play using “basic strategy” when playing with others. When someone at the table doesn’t , it messes the game up for everyone else. You don’t become popular playing haphazardly. you want to play like that, get a table to yourself, but that’s hard to do at small casinos like we have in Winnipeg.

Also, when asked which players in the entire NHL he would like to fight, he chose Ladd and Wheeler. Enough said.

All I've seen is talking on forums. Can someone show me what business has come forward to say he didn't pay his bill? A news article etc. I take what I read on forums with a grain of salt. Stastny building a home in Winnipeg. Buf in rehab ( this one was the same time he had the surgery for his ankle) etc. Maybe I'm wrong but I really don't recall actual proof it happened. I looked up and saw that the Free Press said a fan held up a sign at a game but they found no basis to the claim. It's still on Sportsnet.

He was an RFA. It’s not like he could just go anywhere. Of all the things not to believe in that interview, him asking for a trade every off season is the most believable. He would rather play somewhere else but no so much that he would turn down a guaranteed contract.
I'm just going with the quote from Kane on Sportsnet that both he and his agent said they did not ask for a trade and that he plans on being in Winnipeg long term. From Oct. 26, 2011 - “I can’t speak for anybody but myself. The story started on some blog. I haven’t even read it. I don’t know what to think. I haven’t asked for a trade and I’m happy where I am and I expect to be here for a long time,”

Long story short, the story I heard was Buff simply tried to confront Kane about his antics and Kane just disrespected him by ignoring him, so Buff threw his tracksuit to get his attention. Kane attempted to punch Buff but Buff kicked his ass and told him something along the lines of 'You don't want to be here so don't come back.' But it was much longer, Buff yelling at the top of his lungs, and very harsh words involved, while Buff was backed up by Ladd as Kane grabbed some of his things and left the room angry.

Though what I did hear was Kane trying to say he has a separated shoulder but Buff didn't believe him because he played in the last two games.

The worst part is that he cites racism as being a huge deal when he was here.

Now, it's likely possible that he encountered some but Winnipeg has always embraced it's athletes. Whether it be football, baseball, hockey, black, white, Asian, whatever... If the guy busts it on the ice and is a good human being, no one will do anything but accept you and support you. Milt is one of the city's most popular athletes and he's black; ditto for Buff.

I've had it with this cellar dweller dragging this city through the mud. He will always continue to skirt blame for being just a generally awful human being.

So 5% of the fans were bad and that ruined it for him? It’s the same in San Jose, or anywhere else. As Bugs Bunny would say, “what a maroon”

It’s pretty obvious racism was just an excuse from Kane. Sure, he may have encountered some racist people, just like he would in any place, but Winnipeg isn’t any worse for racism than anywhere else.

As you mentioned, Milt Stegall is one of the biggest sports legends in Winnipeg. We have a street named after him. Buff has been the most popular Jet overall since the team returned. The most popular Goldeye in recent years has been Reggie Abercrombie, a black guy. Racism was always just an excuse.
