If our leading point scorer for the past two years, who is 35, is washed up then what does that say about the rest of our team?

It doesn't say anything really. Each player should be evaluated on their own and that evaluation is not solely based on point totals.

Some bad shifts in a row, fluke goal but we need to be better. Datsyuk's and Z's lines both looking rough and spending lots of time in the defensive zone.

I've been saying that for a couple years now. The counterargument people make is "Well he gets all the minutes and powerplay time, so he gets points." Which I think is a weak argument.

Zetterberg in decline is still routinely the best player on the roster, which is pretty cool and he's great, but it would be nice if one of the younger kids would start to make the discussion less about Zetterberg's decline and more about their rise. Larkin is our best hope for that, for there's still a ways to go until he's carrying the load by himself.

And hey, Sheahan with points in 3 straight games. Looks like all we needed was to complain about him a bit to get him going again on the score sheet.

Points say something. They help you win games, for one. It's not the ultimate determinant, but it's fairly substantial. They have awards for points and everything.

We all know Sheahan is super talented... Kinda reminds me of Getzlaf. Idk why he doesn't show up more consistently. Maybe because he's always played defense first and is struggling to break that mindset?

He's an above average player who is a still a very good playmaker but can't really create offense on his own anymore, is extremely slow, and is an average defensive player. If people think he's anything more than that at this point they are kidding themselves....sorry.

Lots of things help you win games. Many of those things outside of points just happen to be completely unquantifiable so people often latch onto points as the be all end all in the discussion.

What does the fact they have awards for points have to do with anything?

So the second goal was a deflection, the first was a snipe that was effectively a 2 on 1 (Jurco on the wing is a non-player and maybe even a net negative) neither goal were completely unstoppable, but neither are the Howard(tm) softies.

Can Helm stop thinking he's a superstar anytime soon? 3-on-2 ruined because he tries to stickhandle in a phonebooth instead of giving the puck to, you know, Datsyuk.

If it were Howard that gave up these 2 goals, you'd be the first one to start boiling tar and preparing the feathers.
