You can always tell which fanbase someone is apart of based on which one they see as delusional in this trade
I agree. Rushing in here to gloat about what is most likely a paper transaction, which the Oilers have done with six other forwards already this season, is delusional.

Trying to figure out who is better between Neal and Lucic is like betting on 2 guys with no legs to win a 3 legged race.

You know, when they were traded for one another, I think this was the case. I honestly don’t think it’s close anymore.

One player:
57% CF, GF, +60% chances and HD chances for and expected goals for. 6 points in 13 games. Scariest dude on the ice.

Other player:
49% CF, ~45% chances, HD and expected goals for. 3 points, in 9 games, -2 and one of the worst defensive liabilities in the NHL.

Lucic’s contract sucks. But he’s still a guy that has a use in the NHL level in a bottom 6 role. James Neal is cooked.

Says the Flames fan... call me old fashioned for ignoring your fancy stats, but I'll take the guy who scored 19 goals last season and helped the best PP in the league.

What he likes most is playing golf. Which is why he likes playing for the Oilers.

Seems Rasmus is enjoying himself here. Golf couldn't be the thing that caused the rift. I stand by my museum theory.

Can buy him out with only a 2.65M cap hit for the next 2 years if you included Lucic retention, and 1.9M the 2 years after. Still a hell of a lot better than a Lucic buyout over the next 2 years which would have cost 4.1M next year and 5.6M the following year. Buys the Oilers almost 3.5M in cap space instead of keeping Lucic the next 2 years, and you can absolutely find a player better than either player for 3.5M on the market.

Trade still makes a lot of sense if you go that route, and would only add to the Oilers large cap space opening up this summer, which becomes even bigger if they choose to let RNH go. With a Neal buyout they could have anywhere from 16-22M to spend.

When you're on McDavid's line all u have to do is pass him the puck or score garbage goals which he still cant do.

imo a revived bobby ryan ($1) and johnny burner ($3) , both at 50% retained , give the oil a boost this season . both on final years of contracts . yes oil wouldnt win cup but could have a good playoff run appreciated by the big two and fans . ryan could play in top 6 , and burner would imo become oils best tender . then in this deal neals coming back so oil can lose cap to maybe add another rental . the question becomes whats it cost the oil to do this in terms of either a pick or prospect ?

I have to admit that I haven't been paying attention to what James Neal's stats are this season. I just know what his record has been up to this season..
So I decided to look it up... 2 goals and 1 assist in 9 games with a +/- of -2
The 2 goals were scored in the Ottawa game where the Oilers scored 8 against possibly the worst backup goalie in the NHL... Marcus Hogberg who currently has a Sv% of .836 and a GAA of 4.88 in 7 games.

Yeah... so its no surprise that the Oilers have place Neal and his $6.5M cost, on waivers.

He doesn’t cost 6.5 million though. Retaining on lucic doesn’t suddenly vanish if Neal goes on waivers.

I get it, you don’t like the Oilers, but you’re spreading some misinformation.

I think we all are aware that if Neal clears waivers that the Oilers will be able to save approximately $1M in cap space, or in the Oilers case $1M in LTIR allowance space, providing Neal never returns to the Oilers roster. Of course if he does return for a game here or a game there, the savings will be less.

Not a surprise. Guys washed up.

Another poor trade from Edmonton trying to acquire a project player and failing miserably.

They gave up a 3rd round pick and the more effective player for Neal lol
"More effective" is absolutely debatable.

It’s for cap flexibility, nothing more. Literally every member of our bottom six except for a couple of guys have been on waivers.
Every NHL team before the season:
''We need taxi squads in case we have players who gets Covid-19 during the season''
Every NHL team during the season:
''Ehh...we postpone games if we have players who gets Covid-19 during the season and just use the taxi squads to circumvent the cap''

With the exception of last game because Puljujarvi wasn't allowed to play, Neal is not on McDavid's line. He's been playing 3rd/4th line since March 2020. He's a good PP specialist at this point.

Can't argue with that. It's a lose-lose situation but more lose for the Oilers than Calgary since the trade has cost them a 3rd round draft pick this summer which they would sorely love to have since they will only pick in the 1st, 4th, 6th, and 7th rounds. They also have to pay Neal $6.5M to play on their taxi squad. The Flames are paying Lucic $5.25M to play on their 3rd line.
You don't understand what a paper transaction is do you?

Nice league charity case. But it was fun watching Looch and Talbot in the Flamers historic playoff making loss to Dallas! Once an Oiler always an Oiler! Haha

NHL playoffs: Stars use historic rally to oust Flames in Game 6

OR: If you prefer your tin foil hat news courtesy of the Flames organizational fart catcher: Flames' productive playoff run unravels in horrific, historic finale - Sportsnet.ca

Yes... so obvious.
Talbot 2020 playoffs - 10 games .924 Sv% 2.42 GAA
Lucic 2020 playoffs - 10 games 1 goal 5 assists

Try harder.

Harder than a historic playoff meltdown contributed by two key contributors? That kind of harder. Epic. Fail. Historic. Fail. Thank you Looch, thanks Talbot! You helped make history!

EDIT: And you're on here gloating over a paper transaction. Try harder.
