Can't argue with that. It's a lose-lose situation but more lose for the Oilers than Calgary since the trade has cost them a 3rd round draft pick this summer which they would sorely love to have since they will only pick in the 1st, 4th, 6th, and 7th rounds. They also have to pay Neal $6.5M to play on their taxi squad. The Flames are paying Lucic $5.25M to play on their 3rd line.

Giving up the 3rd was a bunch of BS. Conditions were not met. NHL decides to all of a sudden pro-rate stats? Neal could have easily gone the rest of the season without scoring a goal and conditions would not have been met.

Edit....Oilers are still better off without Lucic.

Because in a year and a half he's Ottawa bound, most likely. And Edmonton will be paying him + a bought out Neal for a few more years after that.
Huh, holy Christ I am talking to Nostradamus

Not a surprise. Guys washed up.

Another poor trade from Edmonton trying to acquire a project player and failing miserably.

They gave up a 3rd round pick and the more effective player for Neal lol

a cheaoer Lucic buyout. It is still a win for ooilers. Beal slso scored sone goals, inckudibg a 4 goal game

James Neal was never a cancer in Calgary and I trust my guy better than whatever you heard.
Well if Neal's friend Mike Smith says it ain't so... it must be true. Or is your source the Flames locker room janitor?

Honestly I think the Oil would be a little concerned if someone claimed Neal, as he's still their best net front presence. But again, I don't see Holland risking any of the depth defencemen on waivers** (Jones, Lagesson, Russell, or 4K), and Bouchard has forced his way onto the team.

Still, no one is touching that contract, so they're safe.

**Why? Well the downgrade from Neal to Chiasson (or anyone else on the taxi squad, plus also McLeod and Benson) is smaller than Koekkoek or Jones to Lennstrom.

Not to ruin your day, but you should probably re-check the years remaining on Neals contract

The non morons will understand that this is nothing more then a cap move to scrounge every possible cap dollar during extended days off, it has nothing to do with his play.

He’ll likely be in the lineup come the teams next game on Monday.

except that isn’t true. You’re not saving any cap space when you’re already using LTIR space

Some real nitwits in this thread it's a paper transaction Neal isn't going anywhere and will play a healthy chunk of the remaining games and the Calgary fans proclaiming this to be some sort of victory the central advantage of the trade for Edmonton was always that Neal's contract could be bought out, the same can not be said for Lucic's based on how it's structure returns a pittance of cap space.

Also on top of that Lucic has an NMC so you don't have the flexibility to waive him and are forced to use a protection slot on him in the upcoming expansion draft.

It's about creating flexibility with which guys you want on the taxi squad. They have already waived Khaira, Chiasson, Ennis already this season. Neal being waved is no different.

Possibly... and James Neal is certainly the most likely Oilers player to clear waivers in order to move to the taxi squad... for multiple reasons, non of which are good.

Basically any of them would, and have cleared. All of Chiasson, Khaira, Neal have been on waivers and cleared, the Oilers use those three to create the roster space because their contracts offer the greatest financial benefit to doing so when they have 2-3 day breaks so they’ve been rotating who gets waived.

Its purely a cap move and has nothing to do with his play. He could of scored a hat trick on Thursday night and he still would of been waved. And more then likely he’ll be on the ice Monday.

Insecure flames fans rushing in to make themselves feel better. Oilers live in their heads.

You’re correct, but that wasn’t what I was arguing.

Thanks for proving my point haha.
As you’ve proven mine, thanks for your input. You guys shouldn’t dish out what you can’t take. How many times did we have to hear how glorious Holland was for getting real deal James Neal and that glorious October run that had Oiler fans just salivating at the fact they won this trade... ten games in lol.

its much closer, Neal is being out on waivers (lol) and you’re being bothered by a small group of Flames fans that are actually on here. We’re outnumbered and you guys are still salty whenever we say anything. Keep going though, I’ll just sit here and continue to laugh that Neal is on waivers
