It was gonna be a tough series but this offense has been abysmal for the most part.
Right about that.
It is almost impossible to win games if 1 goal is the max, the last two games.
The last game Halak made very good saves to keep them in the game, scoring failed.
The first goal, four B players around Palat and he scores??? WTF? Defense can do better.

Let's go B!!!

I mean if, and that’s a big if, they can grind out a win tonight, they can carry that momentum into game 6. Win that and anything can happen game 7. But it starts with tonight. I think this is the hardest of the bunch.

Personally I’m hoping to see the Bruins with their best effort tonight(knowing this still may not be enough)unlike others here who say they are not interested or not willing to watch, I feel they need fan support win or lose, and that is the nature of sports and being a true fan(one can deduce I grew up a Sox fan;)).
Not ready for postmortems about who is retiring or getting signed elsewhere, can all wait until after some Captain lifts Lord Stanley.
Here we go:bruins here we go:clap::clap:
great post sis !

Anyone remember 2013 when the Penguins were swept by the Bruins and Bylsma (with Crosby and Malkin) couldn't care less about line match-ups? We're the Penguins now.

Frankly - I'm a bit emotional today. I became a hockey die hard on a whim by flipping channels and deciding to watch game 6 against MTL in 2007-08. And while they were all at varying states, the core 5 were all present in the organization when this game was played:
  • Marchand had just finished his last season in the Q and would be on his way to Providence next year
  • Rask had finished his first season in Providence but wasn't yet formally behind Thomas as back-up
  • A 22 year old Bergeron wasn't available to play and we weren't sure he ever would be again following the concussion from Randy Jones earlier in the year
  • A fresh faced 30 year old (hah) Chara led all bruins skaters with 26.55 of ice time in the 5-4 win, had 1 apple and was a +2
  • A 21 year old Krejci led all bruins forwards in icetime at 20:12 and had 2 assists and was a plus 2.
If I had to guess, the organization created a whole new group of fans after that game, because although they got demolished in game 7 - most people (like me) were committed to dive right back into it at the start of the 2008-2009 regular season because we liked the way game 6 made us feel. From there - you had no other choice but to give yourself over to the sport - they started the 2008-2009 regular season 29-5-4, with the 29th win topping off a 10 game winning streak over the Pens on New Years Day. I'm not sure if folks remember that stretch but the Bruins were basically Showtime - and they became must watch television for me.

On paper - this core should be back for another kick at the can - but on paper ignores the current dynamic, the uncertainty of the regular season in 2020/2021 (which will most certainly influence Chara's decision). Overall, it feels like this is the last run, and could be the last game.

That said - Bruins win this 5-2

I think Kuraly plays and Ritchie sits.

Glad I got the Bruins line up correct. Maybe that is a good sign because I've gotten them wrong every game except game 1

Thoughts... the Bruins are certainly capable of playing at a higer level, and in fact they have in stretches. Game 4 saw them pull some dominant shifts where they just couldn't buy a goal. Yes, Vasilevskiy has been very good. But I think Tampa's D is over-rated after their top pairing. The issue to me is that the B's get some momentum, then another goal goes in off a defenseman, or Halak once again can't seem to open his damn glove for a shot... basically, right at his glove (watch the replays on all of the 7-hole goals, and you'll see Halak's glove firmly closed).... momentum killed. Game 4 included stupid penalties... okay, at least Cliffy makes up for his stupid, Ritchie is a bum. The Bruins aren't out-classed in any way by Tampa, but they're being outplayed -- especially in two key areas: finishing their scoring chances, and getting a key save in big moments.

As for Chara, who do your rank above him on the current extended roster? Moore? Lauzon? Zboril? I know Krug is an offensive plus, but do you really think he's better defensively? Used the right way, Chara is still in the top 6.

Dallas is, too.
Colorado fans are hilarious. They think they can pin their failures solely on their starter getting injured when their back-up played in 2 fewer games than their starter this year. Ben Bishop, who has been out the entire playoffs and is on a bargain contract himself, makes more than both of their goalies put together. They were a goalie tandem the whole way.

We all can see that Chara probably should based on his level of play, but it wouldn’t shock me if this isn’t the way he wants to go out.

If the Bruins would take him back, my guess is he would want his last season/final games to be in front of a crowd, not in an empty bubble

That's the problem - as a fan, I want Chara's last game to be in front of fans too. But there's a possibility that his last game in front of a full set of fans has already been played. I don't see large groups of people gathering until April of next year at the absolute earliest. It seems likely that 2020-21 is played baseball-style with no fans - at the very least at the start, with perhaps the playoffs being at ultra-low capacity.

Chara in 2021-22 is optimistic. He'll be turning 45 that season. If anyone can do it, Chara can, but a freak injury basically means early retirement. But I'll be damned if his number isn't raised in front of a full set of fans at the first game where there's 100% capacity - or the first one after he retires, whichever is last.

Win the one in front of you and forget about the other games, that's the only way to approach tonight's game. In for the win!

Can't see why they'd not want Rask back. I know what the haters say, but the man made a decision about his family. Any organization that would hold that against a player isn't half the great franchise they say they are.

And even if they did trade him, it won't be to get help up-front. We'd still need a top-tier goalie.

I figured we'd lose to Tampa in the playoffs this year even before COVID happened. Afterwards, I still figured so and put that on my bracket. But I knew it would be a war and either team could win. Halfway through the Carolina series I was super hyped that they could keep it rolling. They were playing so great, and it felt like real playoff hockey even without the fans, and then all of a sudden in game 3 everything just stopped. Totally different team since game 2 for some reason. Hasn't even been fun to watch. Mix that with the overall lack of fans and atmosphere, the political stuff (I'm sorry, but I use hockey as an escape), and I found myself for the first time in 15-20 years, actually fast forwarding through parts of the the playoff game last game (I was watching a few ours laters on DVR). I can't remember ever caring less about a playoff game than I did game 4. At this point I'm afraid to force myself to care tonight either, just to get pissed off. I guess at this point I'm just sad. But, hey, maybe they can play the way they did earlier and get me excited again. I will say I'd love to have another few weeks of hockey to enjoy...

I can see Chara remaining on the team but perhaps in the role Chelios had in his last seasons in Detroit when he was in his mid-40's. Less games, less responsibilities, more of a player-coach or role player. I think if the salary and minutes are reduced down to role player, we have another year.

If all parties are inclined, I'd like Chara to remain on the team, but I'd like to see the torch passed and I don't know how interested he is in that. The Bruins need a legit top pairing LHD if they want to be a contender. Krug and Chara are specialists and Grizz is a solid #4/5. One of Chara or Krug has to be replaced by a top-pairing LHD and I think it will be Krug.
