So what's the best way to deal with inconsistency? My line-up is pretty much perfect all around, all stats are good; everyones scoring. My 4th Line Forward has 30 pts for crying out loud, but we still manage to lose one, win one, win two, lose two, win six, lose four. It sucks. :shakehead

Quoting my own post here:

I believe luck is the best answer to my question.

As an experiment I played a shootout in my 2nd last game of the season and I had it on All-Star, Simulation, pretty easy level right. Well I lost, and I lost solely on the purpose that EA programmed this years GM to be inconsistent, to lose one, win one. Such bull..

2013-2014 Season

The Edmonton Oilers go 5-1 during the preseason. The Nuge lead the team with 9 points while Fasth played amazing. Onto the season.

---------------------------------

The Oilers start the season strong with a 7-1-2 record. Ebs and Nuge with amazing chemistry helped them to the strong start. That would change quickly. Midway through the season, the Oilers sit at 18-17-6. They currently sit at eighth in the West.

Mid Season Stats:

Player | Goals | Assists | Points | +/- | PIMS
Eberle | 10 | 28 | 38 | +3 | 4
Hall | 19 | 10 | 29 | +2 | 24
Nugent-Hopkins | 9 | 20 | 29 | -1 | 6
Perron | 10 | 11 | 21 | -5 | 12
Arcobello | 7 | 12 | 19 | -9 | 14
Schultz | 3 | 15 | 18 | Even | 4
Purcell | 3 | 10 | 13 | -7 | 6
Yakupov | 3 | 6 | 9 | Even | 14

Player | GP | W | L | OTL | GAA | SV% | SO
Fasth | 30 | 14 | 12 | 4 | 2.68 | .912 | 1
Scrivens | 12 | 4 | 5 | 2 | 1.63 | .943 | 1

---------------------------------

Eberle has been the best player for the Oilers so far. Hall and the. Nuge have been very disappointing lately. Yakupov seems to be lost out there. 2nd line minutes for Yak and only 9 points. Yikes.

Fasth could not hold his ground so Scrivens has become the new starter. It looks like Scrivy will remain the starter with amazing stats. The only problem is the oilers haven't been able to score when he's in nets.

Christmas Update

The Penguins go into a 3 day Christmas break with a mediocre 20-14-5 record, putting them 5th in the NHL, 4th in the very strong Eastern Conference, and 2nd in the Metropolitan Division. Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby currently leads the team in all offensive categories with 20 goals, 28 assists, 48 points, and +/- of 15.

6b62aa34104f5e93050c55068e1bbc84.jpg

The Penguins aren't happy about there record and have showcased it in recent interviews.

"Every team wants to be close to the top if they aren't already there, and we don't have a good record, I am still in awe that we are top 5 in the NHL, because we sure aren't playing like it." Penguins defenseman Kris Letang

"I haven't played my best hockey, and there is no excuse for that. I knew my role coming into this year and I question if I am playing it good enough not to lose my job." Penguins veteran Pascal Dupuis

One problem for the Penguins this year has been their ugly away record, the Penguins are a NHL best 14-3-3 at home, but 3rd worst when away with a 6-11-2 record. Penguins coach Mike Johnston has said that needs to improve,"Come playoff time, we won't be playing all games at home. You need to get used to toning out the boo's and crowd chants."

Schmidty!!!! Grew up in my hometown! He actually develops good. If you give him minutes in the AHL like 1st and 2nd pairing as well as PP he develops into like an 80-82 overall

Back in Black (and Gold)
Jaromir Jagr returns to the Penguins; 2014 Trade Deadline Update

It was a wild March 5th, 2014 and one of the biggest trade deadlines for a while. From teams going from contenders, and bottom dwellers to, well, farther down (wherever that is.) By far the biggest story of the day was 42 year old Jaromir Jagr going back to where it all started for him, Pittsburgh. The trade sent Penguins defenseman prospect Brian Dumoulin (3.5*) and the Penguins 2015 1st going to the 15th place (in the NHL) New Jersey Devils in exchange for Jagr. Jagr has 19 goals and 37 assists, giving him a total of 56 points. Putting him 2nd on the team, 1 ahead of Penguins superstar Evgeni Malkin.

D Brian Dumoulin [75 -- 3.5*] and the Penguins 2015 1st

"I am excited to go to the place in my NHL Career where it all started, Pittsburgh. Going their to play with 2 of the best players in the game right now and trying to win a cup is quite a spectacle for me. I really just have to keep my eyes on the prize and go there and try to win a cup for me and the city." Jagr on going to Pittsburgh.

Other Trades

The 2nd biggest trade of the day sends LW Matt Moulson and D Andrej Mezaros to the Detroit Redwings in exchange for dynamic forward prospect Tomas Jurco, Detroit's 2014 1st, and F Z. Nastasuik. Buffalo is currently in 24th place in the NHL, but has been suspected of "tanking" in previous years. They plan to increase the odds of them landing star prospect Aaron Ekblad or Sam Reinhart.

RW Tomas Jurco [72 -- 4*], RW Z Nastasuik [69], Detriot's 2014 1st

Another huge trade sent LW Thomas Vanek and LW Matt Cooke to the San Jose Sharks in return for top D prospect Mirco Mueller, the Sharks 2015 1st, and Matt Tennyson. The Sharks have struggled going 26-26-11, putting them 22nd overall. All the Sharks core players are up in age in and is important for them to win now. Thomas Vanek was playing for hometown Minnesota Wild, but waived to go to SJS, feeling they increase his cup chances.

D Mirco Mueller [60 -- 4*], D Matt Tennyson [71], and San Jose's 2015 1st.

The next trade sent struggling D Nick Schultz to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for D prospect Dalton Thrower and D Greg Pateryn. The Canadiens looking to boost their defense in order for a playoff run.

Penguins strike again
The Penguins made a last minute prospect swap with the Dallas Stars sending LW prospect Curtis McKenzie [72 -- 3.5] to the Penguins and C/RW prospect Adam Payerl [72 -- 3*] to the Stars, along with 2015 4th and 5th round picks. Both players will report to their respective farm teams.

I said I was going to start a Pens Be A GM, but iFishyHD is already doing one, so I figured I would ask for help. I am thinking of doing a lower team, trading away some stars, and rebuilding. I was thinking about Nashville or Detroit, but any suggestions are welcome!

Sorry for stealing your plan man! I don't know how long I will stay with Pittsburgh. I might be done soon, I have a lot of free time coming up, so I could possibly knock out 2 seasons tomorrow. Then over the next couple days a few seasons. I really have trouble continuing GM modes, they can get bland to me. I think I want to do Dallas next, after I updated my rosters they look sweet.

No need to apologize, I play with Pittsburgh way too much anyway. I'm going to check out rosters and decide between Detroit and Washington, perhaps another team too. Keep up the good work everyone, I enjoy reading each and every one of your updates.

Nice Jagr deal! Bring back Gonchar.

I could have  but, at 80 overall with a 5M cap hit for 2/3 years, is something I can't do. Jagr could retire (although I didn't give up much for him), and is on a great 1.85 cap hit. Can't argue with it at all. Although he could want 4M, and Bennett and ROR getting better (both 4* green) and Hornqvist being 28 and a steady 85 (overall) producer, I don't have room. Kunitz might get traded (I have a target in mind). Not to mention I acquired LA's 1st, and I didn't check where they were, but it had ridiculous value. So I could bring back a winger with that.

Washington would be cool. Lots of potential and the CPU often ****s them over so they are never really good.
