I remember seeing on my phone that we made this trade and freaking out like a fanboy seeing that we got Strome. Still can’t believe Dylan Strome is a Chicago Blackhawk. Easily the biggest trade Bowman has made in a while. I liked Schmaltz but I love Strome. Easily my favorite player on the team. If Perlini can end up being not a regular healthy scratch, that’ll be icing on the cake.

I came here looking for the Brendan Perlini Appreciation Thread.

It’s a small crowd.

Personally thought many gave up on Perlini too soon. Luckily he has kinda turned it around lately.

He has size, speed, and a good shot. He should be at least a capable 4th liner with potential to be a top-6 forward. I could see him settling into a 3rd line role with us. I’ll be interested to see who he trains with this summer. Would be nice to see him train with Kane.

There’s going to be a lot of competition incoming for the bottom two lines, with each player also having sights on the top two lines.

I think with Perlini it comes down to his work ethic. If he works hard to improve his game, I don’t see any reason he couldn’t be at least a decent 3rd liner.

another good game for Perlini, he seems a lot like Saad, the inconsistency to drive you nuts but a number of wake up calls needed in order to bring out what is there inside of him. why he can't go "there" more often I do not know, but he is well worth another $1mil deal for 2 years to see what he can do..
Him and Saad seem very fragile. The second they score it's like their confidence shoots back up, but if they remain pointless it's like a huge weight on their shoulders and they stop caring.

An issue with mentality and work ethic.

Big guys like Perlini, Saad, and Strome appear to take more time to develop. That's certainly the case with DMen. Well ... Saad developed early, but I think having Hossa and Toews really helped. He's now finally becoming more consistent.

It might also be the case of Perlini and Strome learning bad habits in Arizona.

did anyone else notice who Strome looked "winded" more times than not out there?? like his shifts weren't as long as they should be?? he barely got 15 minutes out there last night but many times I saw him looking gassed out there...wonder if he was sick or fighting something.

Perlini is just going to be maddening to watch, a week stretch where he looks great and 2-3 weeks of invisible play...I think we need to get used to it moving forward.

As long as he’s a $1.5 million-ish player, I guess we could put up with that.

If he learns to use his body and actually creates space for DeBrincat-Strome when he isn’t scoring, then it will certainly be worth it.

I think the Connolly comp is pretty good. Connolly was a bigger 1st round prospect who looked like a bust. He didn’t break 20 points until he was 23, and is breaking 30 points for the first time at age 26.

Perlini can be important if the Hawks pick up Panarin this year ... or get lucky with Hughes. Big fast tough guys like Saad, Perlini, and Hayes (slow) can help our smurfs. I expect Anisimov to be traded.

Connolly bounced around a bit, but the thing with him is he played on pretty deep teams. Lightning/B's/Caps all pretty deep teams at forward over the past 5=6 years. Perlini was having consistency issues on a thin Yotes team..and I agree the comp could be good if Perlini finds consistency, Connolly is a hard worker that brings it night in and night out - he learned to switch his game around to stay at the NHL level. I don't think Perlini understands that yet to be honest- but I hope he figures it out as he has the shot to be a 20-20 guy on this team bare minimum playing with Strome/Cat.

Perlini has the shot and tools to put up 30-20 every year, but.....I still question his hockey sense. No question that he's really talented though.

I don’t think he ever puts it together to be a 30-20, or even a 20-20 guy. I think his best bet is to try and become a grinder who can maybe go 15-15 and turn into a PK specialist, kind of like what Frolik did.

But I’m not sure he has the hockey smarts to be a good defensive or PK specialist.

He’s not smart as Frolik and if Frolik had Perlini’s shot he’d be Hossa light.

Agreed. He has to be putting up 35-50 points yearly or else he's useless.
