Initially I read this thread title as “Duchene on trade block”.
Which is what I expect it to see, given another six months or so.
Duchene is destined to never win a Cup and I absolutely love it. Cancer.FWIW, a number of people around the organization seem pretty confident that he will sign an extension in July.
How well do you trust their judgement?FWIW, a number of people around the organization seem pretty confident that he will sign an extension in July.
If Sakic has a skill as GM it's chopping a car for parts.
With today's trade, he's parleyed a disgruntled Duchene into:
Sam Girard
Shane Bowers
Vladislav Kamenev
Andrew Hammond
Justus Annunen
Danila Zhuravlyon
Ottawa's 2019 1st
Ottawa's 2019 3rd
That's over a full draft worth of players there.
Since the Avalanche got Duchene, O'Reilly and Barrie out of the same draft, they have those 8, Barrie, JT Compher, Nikolai Zadorov, AJ Greer, Cam Morrison and Dennis Smirnov to show for that.
At least a bench for this team.Sakic actually created an entire starting lineup.
Kamenev- OTT 1st -Bowers
Girard - Zhuravlyon
Annunen
OTT-3rd Round (trade potential)
Yep for now we got the best player, and he will need help ..Luckly for Ottawa he will have some soone enoughDuchene is a damn good player.
He's loyal, too, so there's a good chance he extends.
And there's a good chance he has a good season.
BUT, he's not a guy that can carry a team.
He puts too much pressure on himself, and gets inside his own head.
And then he has a long dry spell, while he tries too hard to get back on track.

At least a bench for this team.
If Ottawa all the sudden offered Tkachuk for their pick back, I'd rather take the gamble on next year. Zadina is the only player I'd take over next year's gamble.
Ottawa at Colorado October 26th
Colorado at Ottawa January 16th
A couple of negative 4 point games
The Athletic whacked some stats and from a purely positional basis of the draft pick, they said Ottawa was better off taking the pick this year if they keep Karlson, if he leaves they would have been better off giving the #4 up.
Would Ottawa fans trade Duchene back to Colorado for their 2019 first round pick back? Would Colorado trade that pick back for Duchene?
If you even had to think about it that is the answer (at this point).
It's basically Kessel to Toronto 2.0 isn't it?
What help is coming? Hoffman is gone, Karlsson is seemingly next, and they just finished near the bottom of the league.Yep for now we got the best player, and he will need help ..Luckly for Ottawa he will have some soone enough
Deep prospect pool ,return of possible deal for EK..Or just resigning EK and having better health ......Either way we could very well be much better next seasonWhat help is coming? Hoffman is gone, Karlsson is seemingly next, and they just finished near the bottom of the league.
define much better. like not in the basement like last season?Deep prospect pool ,return of possible deal for EK..Or just resigning EK and having better health ......Either way we could very well be much better next season
No, I think this one has the potential to be extremely worse. It's basically Kessel to Toronto 2.0 isn't it?
