He's either going to wait until someone comes up with the 6 mil per that he thinks he worth...and in any other year/circumstance he might be worth it...or he's going to wait until a team with the most cap space, that has the ability to possibly contend(Columbus, Florida, and Nashville), comes closest to the number he's looking for.....he's not going to get it.

He may possibly sign with one of those "possible contenders" mid-year if it looks like he might give them an edge on the PP that tips the scale in the newly realigned divisions....odd how the 3 teams I mentioned are all in that "newly realigned division", isn't it?

Or he'll wait until next year, and still won't get what he REALLY wants, but he'll get more than what he would get this coming year.

He's 31 and knows he MAYBE has 2-3 more years to cash in, then he'll be relegated to a "specialists" role on the PP, which might make him some scratch until he's 35, but then he'll be done.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that he'll either decide he wants to play hockey and win now for less, or decide he wants to make the most money possible.

His options are SEVERELY limited either way, and will be for the foreseeable future. The way I see it, your either a Hockey Player, or an opportunist. If your a Hockey Player, then you have options, if your an opportunist, then you have been painted into a corner by Covid, and you better decide what's going to dictate your future while you still can, eh?

Oh, I thought this move just freed up enough Cap to be able to take on whatever used player Vegas doesn’t want anymore so they can get square.

Joking aside, it’s a nice time to get another 5.75M in cap flexibility.

If Jan.13th is a legit start date, the trade/UFA/sign remaining RFAs is unusually quiet at this point.

Wonder if its because:
  1. GMs think the Jan.13th start could slip.
  2. Team owners will tighten their spending and the money for trades, UFA signings (etc.) just isn't available.
  3. All of the above.

I think the team Hoffman was waiting on was the Blues and now with certainty regarding Steen it should come together quick now.

There are a lot of moving pieces and details not yet finalized when it comes to roster size and possible taxi squads this year. I'd imagine teams will wait until they get a clear picture of what they're working with before making significant moves.

Because what the Leafs need, above all else, is an offense first forward, who is a PP specialist, who doesn't use his body, or contribute much at 5v5, to balance the team out? and with what cap space?

They are going to send Thornton down to the AHL and easily sign Hoffman for $700k too!

He didn't say it was 100% but said STL was interested in him dating back to when he was being pushed out by OTT.
STL does make sense though. He could play with ROR or Schenn
Here’s to hoping St Louis isn’t in our division next season!

Well, When Dubas trades Freddy to the caps will free up the space for futures. And Hoffman is Hyman lite. He is fast and dogs the puck. And it can't hurt to have another 30 goal man on a wing.
