Thomas Drance of the Athletic Vancouer who also used to be employed by the Florida Panthers says he has been told Mike Hoffman definitely has chosen a team he wants to go to. Called them team "x"

Drance then says the only problem is team "X' needs to clear cap space before signing Hoffman. Hoffman's camp has given team X a grace period before they eventually have to sign one of the other offers. Apparently Hoffman has like 5 offers from 5 different teams.

Drance strongly suggested that team "X" is the Vancouver Canucks but hasnt been able to confirm it himself.

It sorta fits the clues tho as Canucks have a need in the top 6 but also is up against the cap.

I guess if we see someone like Virtanen, Sutter, Baertschi or Roussell traded soon then we can perhaps expect a Hoffman to Vancouver signing soon.

Friedman reported yesterday that Hoffman is possibly looking at a show me deal. It would be smart for Hoffman to sign with the young offensive Canucks to pump up his stats. He would either play beside Elias Pettersson or Bo Horvat

*will post the podcast radio hit as soon as tsn 1040 makes it availbale*

Judging from the title, it appears that Hoffman wants to sign with one of 24 teams.

I figured the Canucks were after Hoffman. Nothing like bailing on Toffoli, Markstrom, Tanev and picking up Schmidt, Hoffman to get the fan base going.

Vancouver's cap is so f***ed up lmao. That's what you get when you sign so many bad players to bad contracts...

Why the hell would Hoffman sign a show me deal?? He's not going to improve on his recent totals.

why would there only be 1 team interested in a player who scored 29 and 36 goals his last 2 seasons and willing to do a show man short term deal.

Because nobody is offering big deals this year and if he can do a one or two year deal where he continues to put up a bunch of points, he can potentially get a big deal in 2022.

yea, only one team wants to add a thirty goal scorer for nothing but cap space, sure.

Canucks don't have the cap and I'd pass on that PP merchant anyways.

Yeah it's so screwed up that they were able to get a home trade for Schmidt and his 6 mil per year because they were one of the teams that can afford it.

Its not the prettiest cap, but what people dont understand is that even if they had 100 million in cap space I dont think they still would have wanted to invest 6 yrs and 4 years on Markstrom and Tanev.

Tofolli is proably the only UFA that I would have kept for what he signed for.

Also between next year and the year after there will be over 35million in expiring contracts for Van.

Outside chance it's the Isles...only because he isn't exactly a Lou/Trotz type player.

If it is the Canucks, it makes me wonder if this will change Benning's stance in adding sweetners to move bad contracts. He originally said he didnt want to do that but if he has to lose a 2nd round pick but it meant being able to sign Hoffman, i wonder if he will do it.

The cap management has been an absolute joke. When your 3 best players are making under 12.5 million combined, 2 of them on ELCs and you've just tasted the playoffs for the first time there's just no way in hell you should be in a cap crunch. Benning's cap management is among the worst in the league if not the worst.

If the Canucks hadn't been wasting their money on junk they could have been weaponizing their cap space in the most opportune time to do so while signing great value deals like a Toffoli, Hoffman, Dandanov etc.

This is really an embarrassing spot to be in for Benning.

Boston needs to be all over this. I'm shocked they haven't done much this offseason.

If team “x” is Vancouver can Benning clear enough cap room to sign Hoffman by trading Virtanen for a late round pick, and buying out Sutter? And wouldn’t Benning have just done this before and signed Tofoli?
