Hoffman will be a leaf. I made a thread about it and I stand by it. Couple things. Leafs were his favorite team. Shanny and Dubas are awesome at getting the big fish. Kerfoot and his 3.5 million contract are not needed. Kerfoot would be moved back to the wing with Thorton centering that 3rd line. Hoffman would take a wing spot there, and he can play both wings. Hoffman would be a major ungrade over Kerfoot.

That said, Andersen might be the guy to move to clear up capspace. Freddy has shown to be a perennial choke artist in the playoffs. There are ways to move salary to get Hoffman.

Just like JT, Hoffman would love to put on a leafs jersey.
Is a scoring winger really Toronto's biggest need atm?

So who takes Andersen off your hands? Then who is your starter, Jack Campbell? That sounds fun.

Hoffman is not signing anywhere to play 3rd line with limited PP time.

Looks like Hoffman is going to a team that has little to no cap space at the moment. Teams like Nashville or Columbus are likely out or it would be done by now.

Could it be a team like the blues maybe? They could probably rid themselves of Steen or Bozak by giving up some younger assets, and Tarasenko is out a long time.
Wonder what they would offer for someone to take Bozak? Florida should have the space

Vancouver could still swing it when they put Ferland on LTIR ($3.5 mill) and trade Benn with a mid round pick ($2 mill; sign some depth fringe dman for $900k like Fantenberg) - that opens up like $4.6 mill right away.

Nope. Teams don't want to sign any contracts right now because of the uncertainty of next season. They don't want to take the risk that they would end up paying "for nothing".

Once there's some clarity about next season, guys like Hoffman and Granlund will sign to teams with available cap space. If next season will be played at any shape or form, teams will pony up and pay those guys. You could also figure it in reverse, if the players signed for something like $1 mil, it would've happened by now. But with the uncertainty, nobody is willing to pay even that for a free agent.

Vancouver is out the day we decided not to use our buy out on Sutter.

Id actually like the Ducks to try ans land him. After the season starts and they csn place Kesler on LTIR they should have the space to sign him. Hed get top line minutes. Top PP time and they have other players to do the defensive work. For a GM who professed to wanting to make a run at the playoffs this year I think it makes sense.

labeling just freddy is pretty comical. he's not in my top 10, but he's a decent keeper. team in front of him has let him down more than he's let them down.

leafs will need to move on from him at some point, but probably hard to find an upgrade easily there. would probably just be easier to fix the defense like people have been saying for the past couple of years? the denial seems strong but it's needed.

I haven't looked into their cap situation but wouldn't he be a good fit on the Ducks?

Is he intrested in 1 year deals if a contender approaches him?

An empty calorie PP scorer is like the last thing the Leafs need, lmao.

It makes me laugh a little to see Hoffman characterized as only a PP scorer nowadays, remembering that in his first full season in Ottawa, he scored 27 goals - 26 of which were at even strength. He was viewed as an even strength specialist who wasn’t even power play competent enough in practice to make either of the Sens’ PP units in real play.

The knock on him was “sure, he can score at even strength, but if he can’t be trusted to be able to produce on the power play is any team ever going to want him in their top 6?” How the turn tables.

It's easy to blame the goalie or coach etc. Not as easy to blame entire offense. This is pretty typical coming from fans of certain club(s).
